OFFICE OF WORKFORCE OPPORTUNITY AND NH EMPLOYMENT SECURITY TO OFFER JOB FAIRS THIS MONTH Starting May 23, 2021, NH Employment Security will require NH residents collecting unemployment benefits to prove they are looking for work. This returns us to the pre-Covid-19 pandemic policy, which had been waived in 2020 so people could be safe. To assist people in their effort to return to work, NH Works Job Centers will be opening to the public by May 10, 2021 and 10 Virtual Job Fairs have been scheduled. To help job seekers prepare for the upcoming job fairs, NH Employment Security will host a “Job Fair Preparation Event” on May 4th, 2021 from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM. At this event job seekers will be able to meet with Career Counselors and Human Resources representatives from actual businesses to sharpen their interviewing skills and create a resume to best outline their skills. This event will also cover how to use the platform Remo for ease of navigating the upcoming job fairs. The 16 Annual Seacoast Half Marathon, one of coastal New Hampshire’s longest-running half marathons, has been set for Sunday, October 31st in Portsmouth, NH. This year, the Seacoast Half Marathon is offering a hybrid model, giving runners the opportunity to participate either in-person or virtually. since the 2020 race transitioned to a virtual event due to COVID-19, and did not produce the same level of fundraising for Cornerstone VNA, the Race Committee decided to remain with Cornerstone VNA as their 2021 beneficiary. Eversource Urges Customers to Remain Vigilant Against Scams Scammers use sly tactics to swindle money from unsuspecting customers With scam artists aggressively targeting utility customers, Eversource is warning people to be on the lookout for new tactics being used so they don’t fall victim. Scammers continue finetuning their techniques, including using phony caller IDs that display “Eversource” and scripts that sound like a legitimate company representative threatening to disconnect their electric or gas service because of an unpaid bill. SOS Recovery Community Organization has reopened their doors at their NEW LOCATION at 14 Signal Street in Rochester. Hours of operation are Monday Friday 10:00am - 6:00pm. NH Employment Security WorkShare Program can help employers retain employees. WorkShare is available to employers who reduce employee hours and wages as an alternative to layoffs. This program allows the payment of a percentage of unemployment insurance benefits to employees who receive a reduction between 10% to 50% of standard hours. This can help employers retain their staff and avoid the time and expense of hiring of hiring and training new employees as they recover. Employees keep their jobs and receive a percentage of their weekly benefit amount in unemployment benefits while their hours are reduced. These prominent leaders in the community led a discussion on the different experiences they’ve all had in their various leadership positions, and gave insight into what makes a good leader. The Greater Rochester Young Professionals thank our speakers for their time and dedication to the community through their various roles.
Thank you! YMCA Virtual Networking Event The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce hosted its April Virtual Networking Event with the YMCA of Strafford County. Attendees enjoyed a great evening of networking, testimony from YMCA Executive Director, Rob Riley, and an exciting round community trivia! Gift Certificates for membership and a YMCA “Swag Bag” were raffled off. This session featured a group discussion centered on respect and caring in the workplace.
