THINK WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN AMERICAN
A
s I write this July’s editorial, I must admit over the years, this month seems to become harder and harder to convey a certain feeling and emotion that is felt deep in my bones. I remember growing up and hitting that stage in life when anarchy seemed to be the answer. Stand up against society. Fight the police and all authority. Outsmart and become more witty to those that I placed into that category of the elite, for whatever reason. Refuse to support the military or for that matter, stand up against our governing body and politics at all cost. Though, many of these characteristics of myself were not warranted, I was committed to these agendas. Then, I remember when we, as a country, declared war and Dessert Storm launched our first assault. I remember as I was in Boston, MA at the time attending Berklee College of Music, pursuing every passion I have in a music career. For the first time, I was compelled to protect “my land.” I became engaged in the possibility that this war might be brought to our soil and I must decide then to protect or to run. Well, I am not much for running away from anything, let alone the belief of what America stands for, FREEDOM. I began to change. Since that time, I considered and approached joining the service, unbeknownst to anyone I knew at the time, until now writing this. I looked at life much different then. I looked at it as not did I something to loose if the world changes, but all people will loose something if the world changes in this potential threat. Well, I was unable to be enlisted for several reasons or causes. I came to terms over time, but my entire approach was different. At that moment, it had become a journey in what it means to be a patriot. Though, I do not, nor will I ever think politics has the solutions that are right for the people, I know politics plays a role. But, it is up to the people to hold them accountable, as it is OUR country and land. I believe that the police, as well as many other branches in authoritative positions, have one of the toughest jobs anyone could serve in their life. I place teachers, politicians, fire fighters, and EMT’s in this same sub-category in my created roles in life. I looked at ways I could get involved, become better educated, and better support those in these roles. In time, I became a college professor, and I received much satisfaction in knowing that I was able to give back in some way to my community and help guide the next generations to better decisions. This was my way to give back and support. I share this as July has to be the reminding point of what America means. Freedom. Choice. Independence of one’s self. The chance to pursue
6
happiness. The opportunity to achieve anything you set yourself to. Now, there are always obstacles. Myself and the crew face them monthly, trying to entertain and created a lifestyle resource each month. I understand these obstacles and I also value these challenges. I look at life as if there were no challenges, then what is going to make us better, or strive to be better, at whatever it is that is important to us. Brian “Big Boy” Whitcomb I see how the world has changed. Just as I mentioned before, when Desert Storm launched, the world as we knew it changed too. Today, we have see horrors from our own countrymen in incidents like the Oklahoma City Bombing. There was 9/11 and instantly we created a hatred and enemy that grows to this day. Not only does this hate grow from our country to theirs, but they, to us. And, for what? Are we back in the middle ages when religion rules the world? Are we that ignorant of people in this stage in our evolution that we can not see the mistakes of history? I think this happens mainly for the fact that we have become sissies in our society. I think it is extremely important to see the damage of our mistakes as a country, as well as others. From Hitler, to ISIS, it is important to see the devastation. From our settlers and their mistakes with the Trail of Tears, to current day Big Brother tactics held against the people, it is important to me that we learn from these things. We currently are still, for the most part, a free country. But, we need to ensure our future remains free. We need to ensure our children’s future is what we believe and want it to be when it comes to hoping for a better life. Our world has become controlled by corporate relationships, who ultimately control world politics. We continue to loose our morals and our traditions. Well, this July, I hope and ask that you recognize our country’s traditions, whether you are from America or whether you came here to pursue a better life for your family. Our tradition is that you sincerely respect the fact that you are FREE. You do possess the freedom of choice. It is that choice that makes us unique, whether we agree or not. If you are here visiting, or deciding to make America home, truly think and understand why all the men and women have made their own choices to stand up for freedom. This holiday, remember. Remember 9/11. Remember how far we have come as a country. Remember our mistakes, so we do not repeat them ever again. Remember, we, as a people and nation, have already fought among ourselves in civil war only to learn we are all fighting for the same reasons, freedom. Freedom. What does it mean to you? God Bless America. Land of the free and home of the brave.

Good seeing the Grease Inc., Garage 71 crew at Smoke Out 18. We always have a blast with you guys! Here is the latest build we picked up at Hell on Wheels in 2016 show. 1956 Triumph that was a straight barn find had hard feelings about changing it up in putting our twist on it but after many months we finally decided it was time to make it one of our own. We are excited to bring this machine back to Hell on Wheels where it all started. Kevin Knight Knight Brothers Motorcycle Company 1956 Triumph before restoration

As with most special occasions, it is always fun to have a great outfit to wear. I like to go with themes for holidays and seasons. For the 4th, only red, white, and blue will do! I found a dress perfect for the occasion from Lindy Bop! This halter neck swing dress has all the features I love. The Lori Ann Blue Stars Swing Dress has a fitted waist and huge full skirt. I adore all of the little stars, and the red trim makes the perfect accent. The wide halter tie falls just right along the sides of the chest to be very flattering. It ties around the back of the neck. The dress has back zip and a little stretch to the material. The bodice is lined as well. You could wear a red or white petticoat with this dress to add extra fullness and create a really cute look. I didn’t wear a petticoat for this, but it would look great! You can find this dress in many sizes XXS-6XL. I also added the red belt to cinch my waist some. Belts are a fun way to accessorize! You can usually find some great ones at thrift stores, or even Ebay or Amazon. Lindy Bop has always been a great vintage reproduction company! You can count on them to always have beautiful styles and affordable pricing. You will be surprised at how many styles they offer and come out with weekly! There is also an amazing sale section and they offer cheap shipping in the U.S. Their dresses are available at stockist all over the world and can be found in some department stores now. I think you will be happy with the choices they have, so happy shopping and Happy 4th of July! Earrings are by Bow and Crossbones and are the ‘Howdy There’ Horseshoe Stud in gold.
