I had the pleasure of contacting the Greater Mankato Convention & Visitors Bureau in February 2008 to inquire about a convention that we are planning for about 300 people in 2009. The convention is to commemorate the literary works of Maud Hart Lovelace, an author from the Mankato area. I must admit, when I first contacted the Convention & Visitors Bureau, I had expected to simply receive some web links directing me to information, and maybe a packet of pamphlets about the area. Instead, we have received incredible personalized support, including event planning services, bids from local companies for hotel and catering costs, and references to local companies. In all instances, we have found the vendors and the Convention & Visitors Bureau staff to be willing to assist us at all levels of planning, with very reasonable quotes for the services we need, and they are very willing to accommodate special needs, such as customized menus and locales. Thanks to the Convention & Visitors Bureau, our planning has gone very smoothly. We have been overwhelmingly happy and grateful to the Greater Mankato Convention & Visitors Bureau for all of their encouragement and support. We will definitely plan to have future conventions in Greater Mankato, and will always contact the Greater Mankato Convention & Visitors Bureau for any events, large or small, that we plan. Our work with them has shown us that this is a community that welcomes visitors and I know our group will feel “right at home” in Greater Mankato.
