New Look, New Name, New Place

Scott Smith, Partner, sits at his desk in the new McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP office.

McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP

McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP kicked off the new year in their new place with a new name. This full service law firm pays respect to their heritage with a new look in a historic location in downtown Rome at 111 Bridgepoint Plaza Ste. 300. Many changes have been made at the former McRae, Stegall, Peek, Harman, Smith & Monroe, LLP. Now named McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe LLP, the firm decided it was time for a change. The firm had been in its former location since the 1970s and now find their new home on the Cotton Block. The firm honors their past and the relationships they have made with businesses since they opened, by naming two of the conference rooms after two of their recently passed attorneys, Jo Henderson Stegall, III and Charles Carpenter Shaw. McRae Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP made renovations to the building to make it the perfect home for their staff and clients. The entire second and third floor reflect the history of Rome and the firm itself, having been established in 1899.

The Shaw Conference Room named in honor of Charles Carpenter Shaw, Jr. The conference room table is repurposed wood from the Bridgepoint Plaza Building’s beams.

“We wanted to combine the tradition and history of both the firm and the City of Rome together and make a great atmosphere here at the new office,” says Virginia Harman, Partner at McRae Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP. "It was important to the entire staff to make the Rome office a staple to the downtown area, and the new sign on the outside of the building facing Broad Street does just that. It is now a location everyone can spot, and our clients will be blown away by the beauty and energy found inside,"says Andy Garner, Partner at McRae Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP. “You will like being here, and we love being here."

CHAMBER LIFE

COMING TOGETHER

The People and Story Behind the Chamber's Brand When Chamber Chairman John Quinlivan, CEO, Redmond Regional Medical Center said of the new logo at the 106th Annual Meeting, “it has no beginning or end,” he was describing the intention of the Chamber Brand . “This is where the magic happens,” adds Quinlivan. “Coming together: the confluence of the three rivers and seven hills, greenways, river ways, bridges, city, county, industry, innovation, ideas, solutions and most importantly, people.” Being tasked with Rebranding the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce was a major endeavour. In April 2014, as part of the Rome-Floyd 20/20 III Implementation Plan, the Steering Committee then made one of the priority initiatives to rebrand the Chamber. With the guidance and wise counsel from three Rome professionals, Leanne Cook, Harbin Clinic, LLC, Jan Fergerson, FGK Jewelers and Bill Fortenberry, Floyd Medical Center, the Chamber set into motion its goals and vision for Rebranding. After meetings, interviews and discussions, the Chamber staff relied on local talent and professionals to rebrand the Chamber. Ian Griffin and Ellie Borromeo, V3, put sweat equity into this project. Countless hours were spent thinking, creating and debating different thoughts and ideas. "The Chamber needed to be unique, every city has a staple and Rome's is the clocktower, but it was time to standout from the rest and be unique," said Ian Griffin, CEO at V3.

Ellie Borromeo, Senior Graphic Designer at V3 Publications

"When V3 presented the name and logo, they hit it out of the park. “ The Chamber’s Board of Directors voted at the October Board Meeting to change the name to the Rome Floyd Chamber, which is more inclusive of who we represent, ” said 2016 Chairman of the Board, Curtis Gardner, Franchise Owner, Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Que. "When we started to design the logo we just kept coming back to the rivers and what they mean to Rome,"said Ellie Borromeo, Senior Graphic Designer at V3. "We knew that we had to incorporate something of this significance into the logo." “The rebranding effort is a culmination of Chamber leaders, local professionals and a diverse group of members coming together with a task and a mission to provide a contemporary, global look with a strong unified message,” said Mr. Quinlivan adding, “We thank Ian and Ellie from V3 for their hard work, for their attention to detail and their caring hearts for our Chamber and our community.”

Mr. Quinlivan also recognizes Nancy Smith, N.L. Smithworks for her expertise and assistance with MOMENTUM Magazine and Leeta McDougald and her team at Advertising Dynamics for the creation of the Chamber’s video. This is an effort of paramount importance and the Chamber has a laser-light focus on promoting Rome and Floyd county locally, nationally and globally. CHAMBER LIFE

The Faces Behind the New Name and Logo The rebranding process has been happening behind the scenes at the Chamber, and there are so many people who played a role in this momentous task. Members participated on a taskforce that helped navigate the process over the last year. Leanne Cook, Harbin Clinic, Bill Fortenberry, Floyd Medical Center, and Jan Fergerson, FGK Jewelers, played crucial roles in the rebranding process and are featured below with their thoughts on the process and the meaning behind the logo and name.

Leanne Cook, Harbin Clinic “Even the most venerable brands need a refresh as time goes on so that they remain relevant to the current day. As we thought about the name, the logo and the positioning we kept the audience in mind — businesses in Rome and Floyd County, and businesses anywhere in the world that need to be enlightened about the many reasons why they should relocate here. The finished product is modern and relevant. I mean, who doesn’t want to know that ‘opportunity awaits?’

Jan Fergerson, FGK Jewelers "The creative talent that gave us the new Chamber brand is amazing, inspiring, insightful and thrives in the middle of our community. I am very proud the “Rome Floyd Chamber” Board of Directors chose to put their confidence in local marketing professionals. The entire team that worked on the new brand lives here, works here and knows our community. The discussions and presentations during the process included visions for our future and remembered the importance of our history and geography. I greatly appreciate the opportunity I was given to watch the collaboration that brought us the Rome Floyd Chamber brand."

Bill Fortenberry, Floyd Medical Center "Working with the Chamber staff and the creative talent on this project reminded me of many of the reasons I love my hometown: collaboration, creativity, a respect for our roots and a sense of anticipation for things to come. Adding Floyd to the Chamber identity is a bold statement about that collaboration. The new logo is the perfect illustration to tell our story: our three rivers and their convergence, our seven hills, our fertile valleys, our distinctive architecture, the open doors of opportunity and our global outreach to business and industry. This is a win for our community that will help us as we build on the successes of our past."

Chamber Ambassador Erin de Mesquita Hospitality House

1. Why did you become an Ambassador? I became an Ambassador because I wanted to take the opportunity to embrace and connect with the individuals and institutions that make Rome/ Floyd County thrive. For Hospitality House, it's important that, as a nonprofit agency, we get a chance to offer our support to those who help fuel our mission as well.

2. What Chamber event have you enjoyed the most? Any chance I get to interact with Chamber members and staff is a total pleasure, but I really enjoy the good energy and the strong networking that takes place at Business After Hours and the Business Expo.
