Redmond Regional Medical Center Reveals Renovations

The renovated Outpatient and Surgical Services waiting area features multiple cafe-style seating arrangements like the one pictured above.

R

edmond Regional Medical Center unveiled their newly renovated Outpatient and Surgical Services areas by hosting the Chamber’s December Business After Hours. The Outpatient and Surgical Services areas are the first point of contact for outpatient procedures and lab-work, as well as for all elective surgeries. Redmond offers comprehensive surgical services including Cardiovascular, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, and Vascular. In fact, Redmond is the only hospital in Northwest Georgia offering Heart Surgery. Additionally, Redmond offers Lithotripsy for kidney stones, as well as a state-of-the-art endoscopy suite equipped for a full range of procedures related January 2015 6

to upper and lower gastroenterology needs. Redmond’s newly renovated areas are designed to care for patients and their families from checkin through discharge with contemporary accommodations, newest technologies and quality care. “The outpatient area is the most recent of our ongoing modernization projects,” said John Quinlivan, Chief Executive Officer at Redmond Regional Medical Center. “We’re happy with the way it came out and hope our patients, their families, and visitors find it comfortable and relaxing.” The waiting room has been redesigned with an open-floor concept which allows easier access within the area as well as easier movement between areas.

The check-in desk for patients and families now serves as the focal point of the room. To provide families a more comfortable place to wait, the space features contemporary furnishings, large flat-screen televisions, a complimentary coffee kiosk, and a café-style seating area. Furnishings are arranged in multiple seating areas throughout the space, giving families individual areas in which to gather. Each seating area features different collections of artwork. Most of the artwork is photography taken and donated by Dr. Bill Harbin and features local Rome landmarks as well as nature scenes. From the check-in and waiting area, patients move to one of six dedicated, private rooms for pre-operative interviews. During these interviews, nurses complete pre-operative assessments and provide pre-operative education to the patient. Patients are then taken to one of the twenty-four, fully renovated, private rooms in the Surgical Area. Each room is equipped with new technology, from the nurse call system to computers for private documentation and patient interviews conducted by the nurses and physicians. Among these twenty-four rooms, four are dedicated Endoscopy Suites featuring stateof-the-art equipment. Three of the rooms are dedicated for patients requiring Infusion Therapy (medication administered via IV or intravenous method). The remaining rooms are dedicat-

ed to pre-operative and postoperative care and recovery. While these renovations offer patients and their families a more comfortable setting, the focus at Redmond is always on the quality of care patients receive. In fact, Redmond was recently recognized by the Joint Commission, for the third year in a row, as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, and Surgical Care. Redmond is one of only 314

Redmond was recently recognized by the Joint Commission, for the third year in a row, as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures hospitals in the nation to achieve Top Performer status for the last three consecutive years. New Location, New Convenience on Broad All about Location

Owners Larry & Barry Alford

January 2015 8

Any business owner knows that selecting the location for your business is vital to the success of the company. This is why Larry Alford, owner of ServiceMaster by Twins (2013 Small Business of the Year), Rome Cleaners, EDR (a restoration dry cleaning business) and Cartridge World purchased the old Expert Tire building on Broad Street. “The first business people see as they come into Floyd County from Hwy. 411 is our ServiceMaster corporate office, and we want that same look and feel to be right in the heart of Rome,” says Alford, a lifelong resident. “When people turn onto Broad Street, Rome Cleaners will be the first business many people see. We want to present a strong image for our community and business.” This real estate investment by the Alford Twins, Larry and Barry, is the latest in a 22 year small business success story that has grown into eight locations in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama. While they have had many opportunities to move to other communities, they choose to stay in Rome because “it is and always will be home.” The Alfords hope that this location will be a strong investment and be of convenience to the customers.

The new location is at 712 Broad Street which was the former Expert Tire. Rome Cleaners and Cartridge World will be located there. Part of the building is being leased to Merry Maids and there is one more space available. All three businesses plan to be open at this new location starting January 26th.

Why are you involved in the Chamber?

“We feel our involvement in the Chamber is very important to the future of our company. The Chamber is the best way for us to network and build business-to-business relationships. We feel our membership in the local Chamber is the best investment we feel we spend each year,” says Alford. “My wife, Missy Alford, is very involved in the Chamber and was Ambassador of the Year in 2012. Employees Stephanie Nichols, Logan Osborne and Richard Theakston are very involved with the Chamber as well.”

Foreign Trade Commissioners Visit Rome & Floyd County Article By: Cheryl Riner Hodge Photos By: Keri Smith

In November, the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce hosted trade representatives from six countries. The delegation included Louise Fortin and George Lemieux, Canada; Alessandro Mussa, Italy; Angelika Heitzmann, Austria; Cecile Mignotte, France and Kimberly Shulman, Switzerland, all are based in Atlanta. The trade representatives were looking to promote investment and expansion to the southeast, specifically to Georgia. While in Rome, they focused on the quality of our local educational opportunities, including all of our local colleges, as well as our K-12 schools.

“Many foreign executives look to the quality of schools in a community as an indicator of the caliber of the local work force. The schools are also important to executives who may be moving their families to the United States,” said Chamber of Commerce President Al Hodge. Heather Seckman, Director of Economic Development at the Chamber of Commerce, took the group to Berry College where they had a working January 2015 10

The final stop on the tour was Darlington School where the delegation was greeted by Mr. Brent Bell, Head of School, and Mr. Jack Tunnell, Director of Day Admission, Associate Director of Admission. “We value the international diversity of Darlington’s student body as an asset to the Rome community as well as to the school, and we are honored to support the Chamber’s work in encouraging international companies to consider Rome”, said Joe Montgomery, Chief Advancement Officer. After touring the school, the delegation met with Mr. Eric Braun, World Languages Teacher, to discuss Darlington’s Global Studies Program and with Mr. Sam Moss, Dean of College Guidance, who gave an overview of Darlington’s college placement.
