Tony Cooper, Chief Operating Officer, and Stephen Self, President and CEO of Rhino Smoke House get ready for the dinner crowd at the Foundry.
Rhino Smokehouse Rhino Ribs Changes Name and Moves From Food truck to a Full Restaurant.
After a year of selling out during lunch to customers, and running out of space in the food truck Stephen Self, President and CEO of Rhino Smokehouse (formerly Rhino Ribs Co. Food truck & Catering) decided it was time to expand the business. Mr. Self began his journey when he first met his now wife and learned he and his father-in-law share a passion for cooking. Mr. Self went out looking for the right business partner, and found his match with Tony Cooper. In March of 2017, Mr. Self along with Business Partner Tony Cooper, Chief Operating Officer, announced their decision to open a restaurant in the Armuchee community. The need for a restaurant had become clear to Mr. Self when the demand for more catering increased and customers began asking for more meal options and wanted somewhere to sit and enjoy their meal. Mr. Self and Mr. Cooper looked around Rome and Floyd County for the perfect home for the Future Rhino Smokehouse, and settled on a location that had the most potential. 4 | Momentum
“We knew there were big changes coming to the Northern part of Floyd County,” said Stephen Self. “With the addition of the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College, this part of the community is thriving and we plan on being a part of that.” The new location will be in the Food Lion shopping center in Armuchee, 3349 Martha Berry Hwy, and with this new location comes a new name, Rhino Smokehouse.
Customers line up for dinner at Rhino Ribs Smokehouse food truck.
“We wanted to show people that we were more than Ribs,” said Tony Cooper, COO. It was important to the brand and to show the expanded menu, “Whatever you can smoke we will cook,” said Stephen Self. The new restaurant will bring many changes to brand and the area. The restaurant will now offer a larger menu, an upscale feel, while having high quality food at affordable prices. “We want this to be the spot, the place you go for date night,” said Mr. Self. Cupcakes Around the Corner
Rome and Floyd County Has Become a Food Truck Hotspot Carrie Bishop noticed the growing trend of food trucks in 2013 and decided it a perfect time to step into the world of small business with her mobile bakery, Cupcakes Around the Corner. Ms. Bishop had a passion for baking and free time while her children were in school. She knew a food truck would be the perfect fit for her lifestyle Ms. Bishop has operated a food truck and a business for Cupcakes Around the Corner over the past few years, but recently decided to no longer use the store front and focus solely on the food truck. . “I knew a food truck is just the better fit for me and Rome right now,” said Bishop, owner of Cupcakes Around the Corner. “It allows me the flexibility I need with family and everyone loves the mystery that comes along with a food truck, it gets people excited.” The food truck allows Ms. Bishop to experiment more with recipes, move locations, and it all happens at a lower cost. The creativity the food truck allows Ms. Bishop to have is what keeps her business growing and what keeps her interested. She experiments with different combinations of icings, fillings and mixes. The cupcakes have quickly become famous around Rome and Floyd County. Ms. Bishop has called Rome home for almost 20 years and she cannot picture creating and running this business anywhere other than Rome. “Rome has a hometown feel, we know everyone, but at the same time it’s large and that’s great for a growing business,” said Ms. Bishop. Ms. Bishop plans to grow the business more, but organically, taking advantage of all the wonderful events happening around Rome and the pop up style that comes from being a food truck and the excitement that comes along with that.

he Rome Floyd Chamber announced the start of its annual Membership Campaign in late March and the campaign has blossomed since the announcement of the $25,000 goal. The Membership Campaign kicked off with a Telethon for Ambassadors, Membership Teams and Chamber Member Volunteers. The telethon gave all the volunteers an opportunity to make their first connection with some local businesses that are not yet Chamber members. While Chamber Members can invite others to join at any time of the year, the Membership Campaign gives members a special opportunity to join in on the fun and to start receiving the benefits of the Chamber.
Greg Jackson, APEX Direct Care, Jim Powell Georgia Northwestern Technical College, and Erin deMesquita, Hospitality House, discuss the Membership Campaign Telethon.
Rome Floyd Chamber Chair-Elect, Pete McDonald, President of GNTC, compliments all the volunteers on their hard work efforts so far. "It's truly amazing what you can accomplish with the dedicated and talented volunteer group participating in this year's campaign. We are at the halfway point and we are staying focused to finish strong." "With so many events going on to celebrate our new chamber members there is no better time than this Membership Drive, said Greg Jackson, APEX Direct Care and Chairman of the Membership Campaign. "Publicity like the Membership Drive Thermometer, the Telethon, and several upcoming events is an instant return on investment and that does not even count perks like the Chamber Directory, Job Postings, and Chamber Advantage."
