SMALL BUSINESS
Perfect Dress of Rome A Childhood Dream Made Into A Reality
Alison Smith, Owner of Perfect Dress of Rome, stands next to one of her hand-selected wedding dresses in her store on Shorter Avenue.
Alison Smith began her career as Director of Membership for the Rome Floyd Chamber (formerly the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.) When the opportunity came along to purchase a business, Ms. Smith seized the opportunity. Perfect Dress of Rome(formerly The Wedding Belle) was owned previously by a friend of Ms. Smith’s family and first opened in 1978. The long standing business in West Rome is where Ms. Smith once played and pretended to own the store. “I remember playing in this store and dreaming that I was the owner and helping people find the perfect dress for one of the most important days of their life, and now here I am,” says Alison Smith, Owner of Perfect Dress of Rome. Ms. Smith knew she had the ability to take Perfect Dress of Rome to the next level as the owner, and she started by moving within the existing space. She traded spaces with Perfect Home in 2015. This increased their square footage and the number of dressing rooms, going from four to thirteen dressing rooms. Their new addition now allows brides and bridesmaids to try on their dresses and enjoy a
wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience. This gives Ms. Smith and her staff the chance to further serve their customers. It’s not just about selling a dress at Perfect Dress. It’s about giving the best customer service possible for the brides. “We are an experience at The Perfect Dress of Rome,” says Ms. Smith. “It’s about making each bride feel special, and it’s a unique experience we can give here at a small business in Rome.” Bridal stores have become even more popular with the development of shows, Say Yes to the Dress and Four Weddings on TLC. Ms. Smith has taken full advantage of what this means, even creating her own social media campaign when a bride says yes to a dress. “It’s important to have each bride that leaves the store feeling like she is the most special girl in the world,” says Ms. Smith. The store has grown over the last few years, Ms. Smith and her team are now requesting appointments before stopping by; while still allowing walk-ins, they hope scheduling an appointment makes the one-on-one experience even more special.
A bride shops with her mother as she looks for her own "Perfect Dress."
Perfect Dress of Rome is a specialty boutique, with over 150 different styles of dresses and offers access to ordering from thousands of different styles of dresses. All bridal gowns range in price from $300 to $2,000, and brides are sure to find the perfect dress in Rome. The store is a staple in Northwest Georgia. Ms. Smith has customers from Gadsden, Summerville, Adairsville and more visiting her store and finding their own “Perfect Dress.” Ms. Smith is looking toward the future by acquiring another business located in her building, Perfect Prom Formals and Tux Too. The prom and pageant portion of the business is year-round with helping young girls and men find the perfect pageant and dance attire. 5 | Momentum

Chamber Ambassador
Welcome BACK to ROME! The Rome Floyd Chamber is excited to welcome back to Rome, Stewart and Kristen Bratcher. Mr. Bratcher opened his own trial and appellate practice, The Bratcher Firm, LLC, in Rome, Georgia upon their return to the community. "I came back to Rome so I could open my law practice in a community where I could help my friends and family and the people I grew up with," said Mr. Bratcher. "I love Rome because it is home for me and my wife, and is large enough to find plenty to do but small enough that the citizens still care about each other."
Stephanie Nichols 1. Why did you become an Ambassador ?
I became an ambassador to help promote the business I work for, Rome Cleaners, and to get myself out there and learn more about my community. While Rome/Floyd County is often seen as a small town it's really a large community, and being an ambassador gets you out in the community.
2. What Chamber event have you enjoyed the most? I enjoy participating in Business EXPO every year, but this year is extra special since I am the 2017 Business EXPO chair. We are so excited for everyone to see all the hard work the committee is putting into action this year.

Manufacturing in Rome and Floyd County
Profile Custom Extrusions Gets a New Look
Since 2014 there has been a total capital investment in Floyd County of $130,500,000 and the creation of 1,127 new jobs in the manufacturing industry. "The impact of manufacturers in our area is enormous and is helpful to employees, families, small businesses and the tax base," said Floyd County Commission Chair Rhonda Wallace, Citizens First- Synovus Bank. Rome and Floyd County has worked with and benefited from the additions at, Bekaert, Foss Manufacturing Company, Wright Metal Products, Heritage Sleep Concepts, Neaton, Ball Metal Beverage Container, the construction of Carlsen Precision Manufacturing and the recent announcement of Balta Group since 2014. "We are so proud that so many domestic and international companies have invested here and employ residents from our community and region," said Rome Mayor Jamie Doss, Ameriprise Financial Services. "Manufacturers are primary employers so the multiplier is very high," said Rome Floyd Chamber Chair John Quinlivan, CEO, Redmond Regional Medical Center. "Estimates are that each dollar a primary employer invests in a community adds seven more to the area. We are fortunate to have a unified effort to attract manufacturers and to provide services after they are here." The Chamber program, Greater Rome Existing Industries Association, is one of several ways manufacturers are involved; Education/Work Force, Business Council, Transportation Committee and the Board of Directors are additional and important sources of input that are used to recommend public policy, curriculum and services such as Job Fairs, seminars and workshops. The manufacturers were recently highlighted and recognized by the City, County and Chamber at the annual GREIA Golf Tournament held at Stonebridge Golf Club.

David Newby, Division President, and Diana Sands, Marketing Manager, share the story behind the new logo at the reveal celebration.
Profile Custom Extrusions has gone through many changes since opening in 1960. The new ownership has seen veteran employees now retiring and new employees coming on board. David Newby, Division President, and Diana Sands, Marketing Manager, knew that it was time for a big change for the company. "We have so many employees that have only been with the company less than five years and we want to make them feel like this is their company," said Ms. Sands. After the Annual Sales Meeting in May, Profile welcomed their employees, friends, and the community to celebrate the new logo for their company. The company has continued to grow through recessions by reinvesting in the company and hope to expand even more in the future.

Two Rome/Floyd Schools Named STEM Certified Two more schools have been added to the list of STEM Certified Schools by the state of Georgia in Rome and Floyd County. The distinction of a STEM Certified School is a high honor for a school, and means that the school has met state requirements in becoming certified in an integrated curriculum of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program not only integrates STEM into all of the curriculum, it also helps the students become problem solvers and more creative. This new curriculum helps students better prepare for careers in the 21st Century.

North Heights Elementary School was the 49th school in the state of Georgia to be named a STEM-certified school. The Department of Education visited North Heights on May 10, 2017 to speak with the students, teachers, parents and community members on the programs North Heights has put in place to become STEM certified. “We are extremely proud to have North Heights STEM-certified,” said Lou Byars, superintendent. “The entire school has worked hard to make this happen and this is a wonderful achievement for not only the students, faculty and staff, but the parents and community as well.” At the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year the Department of Education will once again visit North Heights and present the school with a banner and a presentation recognizing the school's hard work and dedication to become STEM certified.
Three students from Cave Spring Elementary show off their STEM shirts in honor of being a STEM certified school.
Floyd County School Systems celebrated the first school in the county system to be certified as a STEM- certified school by the state of Georgia and was named the 53rd school in the state to be recognize by the Georgia Department Education. Like with other schools the Department of education visited the school and saw the variety of STEM programs happening around Cave Spring Elementary School. "This means a great deal to Floyd County Schools to have one of our own be recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as a leader in STEM education," said Dr. John Jackson, Superintendent, Floyd County Schools. The metro Atlanta area, which is known as a world-class technology hub, is home to a large portion of schools in our state that hold this certification, so to have one of our smallest schools that’s in a community of less than 1,200 people achieve this mighty feat makes it that much more special. This recognition goes beyond the school and serves as a source of pride for the City of Cave Spring and its citizens who have supported our mission of "Destination Graduation for every child."
