From the very earliest of days of sailing, there were some words which were never to be uttered while at sea. For obvious reasons, the words “goodbye” and drown were never used, the phrase “good luck” was also avioded for fear that it would cause the reverse to happen. Additionally, many words that were associated with land were also avoided because saying them believed to bring bad luck upon a ship. Examples: Church, Cats, Rabbits, and Pigs.
Captain Jameson von Greywolfe’s Rum Review - Captain Morgan: Apple Slam It’d be Rumday evenin n be time fer th rum review. With their white rum imported from the US Virgin Islands and blended with green apple Liqueur n bottled at 60 proof, this apple rum liqueur isn’t bad fer the price or the taste. 5th in line in the cannonball bottle lineup and costing only a mere 13 to 15 dollars a fifth. It was made for shooting cold or to mix with 2 parts club soda and ice. Most definitely not one to sip on for any reason. Captain Morgan’s Apple Smash rum liqueur is smooth with a warmth at the tail. Diego has outdone themselves with this one. A fun seasonal spirit that’ll last who knows how long.
The color is of a bright lime green and almost a Jolly Rancher or Jell-O. Once placed in the freezer and attaining the cold desired it pours out thick like warm maple syrup over griddle cakes. The nose is of candied green apples and lime cool-aid. The taste is sweet and candy like with a warmth in the back of the throat, green apple n lime at the backside. A cold shooter or mix with a lemon-lime soda or as recommended club soda and a twist of lime. I’ve made one truly good drink from scratch that was a hit at a
Barbecue this weekend I call apple pie. It is one ounce apple smash one ounce spiced rum an fill with lemon-lime soda over ice or use ginger beer in place of the lemon lime for a more pie taste. I’m thinking that if mixed with Rumchata instead of the spiced rum, it would taste more like Apple pie ala mode. So bon voyage me hearties I sail for more rum to discover for the next coming weekend, n who knows what I’ll discover between now n then. In honor of me mate Crow I dedicate this review in his name So until then as always mates stay safe, stay alert, stay alive and drink responsibly. Another round of review shall commence in less than a week. Plunder well pirates n take what ye can n give nuthin back. Drink up me hearties yo ho, down the hatch.

Q
How long have you been into the pirate life and what made you want to be a pirate?
After seeing the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie in 2007, I knew I wanted to experience the dress, freedom and adventure of being a pirate. Being widowed, I enlisted my two teenage daughters into the fun by having a Pirate themed Halloween party. We went all out on garb and decor. My youngest daughter and a friend of mine then travelled to Grand Cayman for our first of many Pirates Week. Typically held the second week of November, after hurricane season, the festival was actually 10 days long. Celebrations are also held on sister islands, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Once we got on island, we dressed in amateur garb and went to town. There we were met and romanced by some members of the Seattle Seafair Pirates, a crew from Seattle, Washington. We were smitten. A street dance that night, fireworks and fun with locals and
tourists. We followed the itinerary by going to the heritage days on areas of island such as West side, East side, Rum Point, Bodden town and others. We met Ashley Michael Lockwood whose father, Michael Lockwood was a founding member of the Cayman festival. Ashley was an honorary member of the Seattle Seafair Pirates who were brought down to provide entertainment for the island festival. There is an annual 10k swim held during Pirates Week in Mike Lockwoods memorium. The experience of the easy going island life, it’s friendly and hospitable people, made for an instantaneous love of the islands. The Caribbean Sea life full of adventure, romance, piratitude, and rum sealed my fate as a lover of the Pirate life. I have gone back for Pirates Week several years since. In 2016 I became a member of the Las Tortugas Pirates crew in Grand Cayman. I knew of them during Pirates Week and met a few of their members in some visits. I was never aware of their international crew until I liked them on their Facebook site! I was invited to join and I did do right away! 2016 was my first Pirates Week as an official member of the Las Tortugas Pirates Crew under the command of Captain Gunpowder Wes aka Orneil Galbraith. I took a local Michigan friend, Jan Nelson, with me. She had been with me previously to an earlier Pirates Week. What a thrill it was to become a real Pirate with a pirate code, logo, flag, and a crew of international scallywags and wenches! Jan was hooked as well and joined that year.
Q
What is some the inspiration behind your garb?
I chose my Pirate name to be Anne Bonny for my admiration of one of the strongest women Pirates in history. My garb has usually come from online pirate sites, Renaissance fairs, antique stores, garage sales, Etsy and thrift stores. My corsets, hats, jewelry and belt are my favorite pieces. I have a flintlock, a tail, a flask holder, a treasure bottle, a satchel all on my belt. I love to wear off the shoulder garb to show off my CI tattoo. No Halloween costumes allowed!
Q
Outside of going to events, are there days that you just Garb up and go out on the town. If so what type of place do you happen to go and do?
The itinerary for the Las Tortugas Pirates is demanding from sun up to sun down. Appearances, raids, hospital visits, fulfilling a Make A Wish, day care visits, heritage festival visits, parades, landings and takeovers make for long, but fun filled days! The Las Tortugas crew has a married couple in Clinton, Ct. that has a Pirate Fest in June if each year. Jan and I went to Ginny and Joes last June for an Atlantic East Coast raid. We signed on a local Scottish tavern owner as a member and musician. We were escorted through town by the Sailing Masters fife and drum Corp and bagpiper

A festival has been declared in honor of the reign of Her Royal Majesty, Queen Eleanor. The Queen’s proclamation has gone out and now loyal subjects, old allies and former enemies alike gather to celebrate. All persons of peaceful Chivalry are welcome at the festival. Freely wander among her loyal subjects in the Barony of the White Waters encampment. Enjoy the encampment of the visiting nobles from the Kingdom of Shiabruck.
Rain or Shine the Fair will always go on!!!
Visit, if you dare, the Brethren of the Great Lakes. They are sometimes commissioned by Her Majesty as privateers against her worst enemies. But at times she wonders if they are entirely loyal. Finally, watch the proud Norsemen at the Vikings of the Great Lakes encampment as they demonstrate their crafts and skills.
ANDREA JONES
This Legendary ship had a very short time in the spotlight of history, but left its mark. Her original name is not as well known to many, but her final captain it what made her so famous. La Concorde de Nantes was originally name Concord; it is believed she was built in Bristol in 1710. The 200 ton frigate was built as a cargo and merchant vessel. She sail but no more than about a year till the French captured her and named gave her the new name of La Concorde de Nantes. She would sail for seven more years under the ownership of the French. November 28, 1717, near the island of Martinique, a French island in the West Indies , was attacked by pirates. The leader of those pirates was Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. He dressed her with alleging 44 cannons and renaming her for the third time Queen Anne’s Revenge. There are a few ideas why he had chosen this new name for her. The name may come from the War of the Spanish Succession, known in the Americas as Queen Anne’s War, in which Edward Teach had served in the Royal Navy, or possibly from sympathy for Queen Anne, the last Stuart monarch.
Blackbeard sailed this the Queen Anne’s Revenge from the west coast of Africa to the Caribbean, attacking British, Dutch, and Portuguese merchant ships along the way. Shortly after blockading Charleston harbor in May 1718, and refusing to accept the Governor’s offer of a pardon, Blackbeard ran Queen Anne’s Revenge aground while entering Beaufort Inlet. A deposition given by the former captain of Adventure, David Herriot, states “Thatch’s ship Queen Anne’s Revenge run a-ground off of the Bar of Topsail-Inlet.” He also states that Adventure “run a-ground likewise about Gun-shot from the said Thatch”
in an attempt to kedge Queen Anne’s Revenge off the bar.Teach then disbanded his flotilla and escaped by transferring supplies onto the smaller sloop, Adventure. He stranded several crew members on a small island nearby, where they were later rescued by Captain Stede Bonnet. Some suggest Blackbeard deliberately grounded the ship as an excuse to disperse the crew. Shortly afterward, Blackbeard did surrender and accepted a royal pardon for himself and his remaining crewmen from Governor Charles Eden at Bath, North Carolina. However, Edward would eventually returned to piracy and was killed in combat in November 1718.
