Fur trader Dixie Bull was robbed of his; coat, rugs, blankets and biskets, by French pirates at Penobscot, Maine in 1632, leaving him destitute. To survie, Dixie turned to piracy himself. Persuading 16 other fisherman, traders and seamen to join him, he cruised the coast plundering trading vessels and attacking posts. Massashusetts snd New Hampshire sent five vessels on an expedition against Dixie Bull, but after two month of searching they could not find him. His last known act of piracy was against Anthony Dike of Salem whom he threatened to kill if he did not pilot the pirates to Virginia. Bull then disappeared, never to be heard from again, except for mention in a popular poem of the late 1600's which part reads; "Pirates, your flag and anchor pull, Dab Curtis killed yout Dixie Bull". Rumors were that Bull was killed in a sword fight in England, followed with that Dixie himself wrote the poem in acts of "killing himself " to start a new. *Wax Model at the New England Pirate Museum, in Salem, Mass.

I come across an island with an angry sea beast swimming about. That wild beast was the Kraken with a mighty cannon fire did we fight to even approach the island but fight we did. When it was over a sightly crew of Spanish castaways came out to greet and thank us for their rescue from that terrible beasty. They had rum in hand by the barrel and ink from that beast had seeped into a few of those barrels making a chemical reaction and quite a tasty concoction of rum n coffee. That

rum is known as The Kraken Black Roast Coffee rum. A limited edition rum that'll be here then be gone before ye knows it. Shimmering with dark intensity like oil that lays upon the ocean. 66.6 proof spiced rum infused with natural flavors and coffee bean essence. Dark and rich and incredibly smooth, this rum has what it takes to get noticed or I'm not the rum Doctor. We all know the original Kraken 94 proof black spiced rum, dark, heavily spiced and strong. This rum had simular spices

but nowhere near as intense like the original. On top of the spice there is a black Italian expresso coffee bean complexity that's been added plus the sweet caramel flavor we all know. Life the ink from a giant squid and lightless no light escapes this spirit as if it were truly made from the Kraken black ink. The legs are thick and heady and travel slowly down the inside of the snifter glass. The aroma, well honestly there is only a faint essence of spices and not enough to distinguish between the different spices. The aroma is there but only very light.

So mates that's it for this week, this black roast rum is where it's at and I'm pleased with it. So until the next time round, stay safe, stay alert, stay alive, and drink responsibly. Till the next review, down the hatch.

The taste, spice, vanilla, sweet caramel and a very nice Italian expresso coffee bean flavor. The drinks, the Kraken website has only a few drinks listed for this one. A cold shot was one the other is called black and brew, using cold brewed coffee as the mixer over ice. It sounds great I'm figuring that if it's great cold it'll be great hot with hot brewed coffee would work too. My featured drink is 1.5 oz black roast kraken over ice topped with A&W rootbeer and is very pleasing to the pallette.

Our visit to Salem, Mass. We heard about the Friendship of Salem and had to take a look. We were only able to see the ship from the walf. As it was early May, Friendship of Salem was still at "stored for winter" condiction. The masses were removed and stored along the Museum. Even being a replica, she was a beauttful site to see.

The Friendship of Salem is a 171-foot replica of the Friendship a 1797 East Indiaman. It was built in 2000 in the Scarano Brothers Shipyard in Albany, New York. The ship operates as a stationary museum ship for the majority of the year. It is a fully functioning United States Coast Guard-certified vessel capable of passenger and crew voyages; it makes special sailings during various times of the year. The Friendship of Salem is docked at the

Salem Maritime National Historic Site, established in 1938 as the first such site in the United States. The site, which includes several structures, artifacts and records, is operated by the National Park Service. The replica of Friendship was commissioned by the National Park Service and was to be named The Friendship of Salem. It was built using modern materials and construction methods, while retaining the appearance of the original 18th-century ship. The hull is cold molded with laminated wood and epoxy. The replica's design is based on a model in the collections

of the Peabody Essex Museum. The model was built by Thomas Russell, the Friendship's second mate, and Mr. Odell, the Friendship's carpenter, as a gift for Captain William Story's infant son. Russell and Odell made the model during a voyage to China and Sumatra from June 1802 to August 1804. The replica's color scheme was taken from an 1805 painting of the ship by noted marine artist, George Ropes, Jr., who was a nephew of Jerathmiel Peirce (see below). This painting is now in the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem.

Curriculum packets are available. Inquire about our educational pirate visiting your school. Seasonal - May through November. Notorious pirate captains, such as; Kidd, Blackbeard, Bellamy and Quelch, roamed the waters off Boston's North Shore, known as the Gold Coast, while so-called witches were being hanged at Salem. Like many of today's New Englanders, pirates spent their winters in the tropics and their summers here. Most 17th and 18th-century pirates were, in fact, New Englanders and New Yorkers, with gold and silver from Central America and merchandise from Europe. Many buried their ill-gotten treasures off shore on the islands that dot our coast, and much of it is still there, just waiting to be dug up.

Do not let the negative reviews turn you away from checking out this Pirate Museum. After reading some of the reviews we were hesitant to visit, but we took a gamble like the pirates we are and we loved the expiration. Note: it is a wax museum, a lot art of storytelling and the fact many of the wax models are well aged. And only being $8 per preson, it is not too pricey either.
