As fans of the Pirates of the Caribbeans, we are aware that Captain Jack has crossed his far share of people. In Dead Man's Chest, 2 key plays come about. One being Lord  Cutler Beckett and Davy Jones.

of the Wicked Wench. After Jack found out the cargo was slaves, he freed them as soon as he could. In these actions Cutler had Jack branded a pirate and set flame to the Wicked Wench causing it sink.

We know that Jones told Jack that he was worth a hundred soul. But where did that number come from? Â The number was a twisted joke of irony by Jones.

After failing to rescue the ship and Jones made his appearance. Striking a deal with Jack to bring the ship back from the depth. The haul still staid from the being burned, Jack renamed the ship the Black Pearl.

The events between Jack and Cutler would have most likely happened 12 to 13 years before the film's story Curse of the Black Pearl. Jack was employed into service for the East Trading Company and was given command

Now you wonder why a hundred souls? The theory is, that the Wicked Wench was caring 100 slaves. So to save his own soul, Jack would have to condemn 1 soul for every soul he set free.

"poeple arnt cargo, mate"

Ahoy thar me hearties it'd be Rumday night and be time fer th rum review. As written in the Captains log book, This day of our Lord 1738 December 28. So thar we were, sailing true and straight. Down to Panama we were headed to plunder up some good rum the Quartermaster had heard about being made thar. It had been a week at sea when a fierce storm came up from the south like it was trying to prevent our plundering as if that were possible the plunder of rum and the selling

of it in Tortuga were what we were interested in. That and the coin it would bring. That storm however blew us off course and almost into the mainland of where Gaspar makes his home. After the storm we knew that repairs were immediately needed and most that we could not fix at sea. Fixing what we could we limped into the closest port of Progresso along the Yucatan Peninsula. When harbor came into view we doused sail and let the anchor sink. Myself my first mate Mr Pledger,

my Quartermaster Lorenzo and my coin and rum master Mr Gillette along with a few others to help with the rowing rowed to the docks. We couldn't help but overhearing loud arguing at the storehouse. This aroused our curiosity. Lorenzo being familiar with the language listened as the arguments went on. "Well quartermaster what is the upsurge in rivalry sirb I asked. "Captain" Lorenzo went on "it seems that two families that are local spirit producers seem to be in dispute to who's spirit is the best". "Well what are these spirits they seem to be in dismay over?" Mr Pledger asks. "Eh that'd be rum nnnnn tequila I think is what I heard". Well Quartermaster what is this tequila they speak of I asked. I've never heard of it". "It is a local drink strong and earthy" Lorenzo says. "Without going into much detail, it is made from a desert plant kinda like the aloe" "So it's a cactus ok, Well let's get some then, how bad can it be?" I stated. "Mr Gillette please sir go and pay for some si we can try this tequila"."Aye Captn" After a few minutes of dealing the families some coin, Mr Gillette and Lorenzo came back back with a few drams of each rum and tequila in cups for us to try. Mr Gillette

looked up and said "they wouldn't sell just the tequila it has to be both and we could settle the argument" Lorenzo looked worried Mr Pledger noticed this and said "what's the look fer Lorenzo?" Looking back Lorenzo started in saying that "well if we choose one over the other, well let's just say we don't have enough pistols or men to cut our way out" both families were quite large as we could see. I see your point quartermaster" I said "not as many as are gathered here arguing and already madder then hell, so how do we stay neutral?" "Mr Gillette any suggestions?" "Its not like we can just give it back that'll jus make it worse" Mr Gillette said. "Aye agreed, Mr Pledger any ideas" "Nye Captain" he said. Lorenzo started to step forward but stumbled over a risen cobblestone. His trying to not fall accidently made our decision for us. Saving himself from completely falling Lorenzo splashes the tequila he's holding into the rum in the other cup. "Brilliant" I said "let me see that cup quartermaster" handing out to me I take a long drink from it. "Amazing, Lorenzo, I've never had anything like it before. Mr Gillette you must try this" reaching out he took the cup from me and took a drink. "Aye Captn that is good" he said. Lorenzo and Mr Pledger both stepped up to try it in agreement I

looked at the cups that Mr Gillette was still holding "let me see those" I asked. Taking each I tried the unmixed spirits the were what I'd call average. The rum barely aged was harsh in the throat as was the tequila but somehow mixed up together they became a completely different animal that was very tasty and balanced. "Lorenzo take this back to them and show them what happened". He walked with the remnants of the rum and tequila and showed the families what he had done and had them try it. Each family member their moods changed as each tasted the new mix. We saw smiles all around as that cup went back n forth between them. After an hour Lorenzo came back with a new smile on him. "Captain our repairs are going to be taken care of and they are giving us 5 if the big barrels of their new rumquila spirit. We'll be back on our way in about a week. They said to let them do the work as we have settled the argument they have had for 20 years. They never thought about mixing them together. So after a week of the new rumquila from their stock with juices and relaxation whilst they did the work they agreed too we were back on our way down to Panama. This if course is a work of fiction. The real origin of One Eye Louise's RumQuila came out of Birmingham, Alabama. From the basement bar of

the Arora Family's house in 2010 the original VodQuila was born and after a little while longer the Rumquila was born. Both the rum and the tequila are distilled together and not mixed afterwards. There is not an age statement on the bottle or the Web page. One eye Louise's rumquila isn't going to be for everyone especially for those who are purist in one or the other. Here's my view of it. The color is of a golden amber with a green tinge at the edges of me snifter. The legs are slow to form and are even slower in the fall back to the reservoir, showing a high viscosity in the spirit. The nose is conflicting but that's no surprise there's two different spirits in it. I get the aged oak aromas of caramel and vanilla in the rum and there are hints of repasoto aroma of the tequila earthy and like the story talks about a little aloe like but not quite as robust. There is an astringency present that I noticed once pouring it after just opening the bottle. Since then it has toned down to a quiet roar. It's still there but not like it was. This is 15 minutes later. The taste, again the rum is the dominant taste here. Forward with oak spice vanilla and sweet caramel. The tequila is one of a cheap repasoto maybe Sauza or other similar tequilas. There is a nice

burn to the throat but again this has been allowed to breathe for 18 minutes now. I'm sure it would be quite heavy in astringency if your going to shoot this one. The drinks, going with most any rum or tequila drink would not be a problem with this mix you'll probably have to rename them though. Like you couldn't have a daiquiri or a margarita but you could have a daquirita, just saying. If you let this breath it is a good sipper if not and looking to get drunk just shoot it straight it'll takedo what it is indended to do but take your taste buds as well.

Captain Jameson von Greywolfe

Pirates lived hard and played hard, conscious that the noose— or worse— would kill them long before old age. As much as we love to glorify piracy today, the reality was grim. These were dangerous men, and women, who clutched desperately at life as long as they might. Most of the romance of piracy has been fabricated, stitched up like sailcloth, by our imaginations. In pirate literature, an author must make a clean sweep of the ship, so to speak, in order to present likeable characters. Romantic scenes and scenery are a must. Never mind that toothpaste and deodorant were nonexistent aboard ship; cast off thoughts of the torture and murder involved in the job. It’s my job to craft a story that floats, and which scuttles the boatloads of filth involved in buccaneer life. I’m aware that pirate companies weren’t run like the Royal Navy, but, for my purposes in writing the Hook & Jill Saga, a degree of regimentation works. And few pirates began life as aristocrats. Captain Hook is fictional, so I feel free to unfurl him the way that J.M. Barrie— with tongue in cheek— created him in Peter Pan: an educated, cultured, if callous, commander. Hook is heroic in his villainous way, and he runs a taut ship because it succeeds. Pirate companies didn’t last many years, or even many months, but here’s Hook in the Hook & Jill Saga, cutting out a reputation and sailing on with the same loyal crew, year after year. And that’s all

a-tanto, because it’s fiction, it’s fun, and it allows for one hell of a story And then there’s Red-Handed Jill. She’s a lady. She dresses in gowns and arches her eyebrows. She began her career as a mother, and I’ve heard the observation that I’m keeping her “soft.” Will she ever wish to act in cold blood? She does her duty, she is sometimes hard, yet Jill rules with her own armory of weapons— her wit, her charm, her intelligence, her sex, and her storytelling. “Men’s” weapons may be wielded by Jill, but this lady is more subtle than the sword— and, therefore, more dangerous. I salute others’ opinions on my books. Everyone ships his own insights, and the different interpretations are, to me, part of the adventure. One subject my readers and I discuss begs to be studied: Jill’s sexuality. As I mentioned, a pirate storyteller has to clean up the scene, and yet any tale of piracy, to be true to its subject, must still stress its amoral aspects. Pirates represent freedom— from authority, from social obligation, and from conventional mores. RedHanded Jill is no exception, and, on occasion, readers remark on Jill’s liberty in the bedchamber. My pirate queen, while applauded for her independence, may raise eyebrows (this time, not her own). For harboring more than one lover, Jill receives soubriquets more suited to the Victorian Age than the 21st Century. But belay there…As much as we love it when buccaneers

break the rules, and as often as we indulge in fantasies of “wenches” in (or half out of) impractical, provocative garb, pirate literature appears not to have bridged the outdated divide between what’s acceptable for men, and what’s acceptable for women. I say, Fire all! and blast that attitude out of the water. As Jack Sparrow explains in one forceful word when Will Turner expresses shock at his behavior…“Pirate!” Hold fast, mates, because Jill’s a pirate too. If she can fight like a man, she can sleep like one. To my knowledge, no enquirer has flogged the males in these tales for sleeping around. Jill’s masculine counterparts dodge more commentary-cannonballs for one slap to her face than for their sexual successes. Is a “doubloon” standard at work here? And let’s not even talk about marriage. I’ll let Jill talk about it. She sums it up in Other Oceans: “Marriage is simply an act of law. What use has any pirate for any law?” So she can tie the knot or not, and as often as she likes. Does Hook give a damn if she does? “True marriage,” Hook reflects, takes place “in the woods in sacraments like this one, or upon the font of the sea, in rites of passage, blood ritual, magical transference such as only he, who inhabited her soul, could share with her.” And now you’ve had a wee peep at Other Islands: Book Three of the Hook & Jill Saga— sez I, with an arch of my eyebrows and a sly, quiet smile. It’ll sail your way soon.

Live hard, play hard. A pirate’s life for me. And after a year of foul-weather politics, maybe not the noose, but the news, awaits us!
