Year 1
Filled with adventure...
Over the last year the magazine has slowing grown and at times it has jumped in numbers to the point my phone would shut up with all the notifications it would get from people Liking the page. To see where the magazine is today is to know what started it all. Currently from what information we are able to gather from Facebook we have readers in 22 different countries. Then what we feel is a little off, but have readers from 14 states across America. Using the information from Issuu.com we can estimate that we have had 1,698 reads and 18,496 impressions. Let us go back before the magazine was even a thought. I had interned for a small
local Magazine, in Sturgis MI. While working on the layout of the magazine I found I really enjoyed it. Once that ended I looked for another design job, with little luck. As I slowing went through my levels of depression and finding little moment of happiness that come from going to Pirate events. I came up with the idea of making a pirate magazine. It was just an idea that I had, it wasn’t till Star~Dust pushed my into trying it. After putting out a few issues, I really enjoyed it and the feedback I got made me feel good. At an event someone asked if I was Timber Gray Wolf. I told them that I was in fact. They responded that they loved
the magazine. That was the little moral boost that I needed. I am all ways open to new ideas from the readers. Due to this from when we started just with Pirates of the Month, we added Siren of the Month. Some months later Wench of the Month. Soon we started to get a small fallowing from Steam Punks. So adding Steam Punk of the Month was a given. Sadly with some of these new things added the only one still going is Pirates. To celebrate the year of making it, I hosted a small Birthday Bash, with CAKE!!! I had high hopes for the numbers but at the same time figured all but a few would show. The most that showed was some of my crew, the Silver Moon. A little more showed up to the after party thou. I thank all those that have watched and stayed up with us up to this point and look forward to more issues.

Q
How long have you been into the pirate life and what made you want to be a pirate?
I’ve been into the pirate’s life for, oh, ten years or more. I’ve been hoisting the black for nearly a year now. What made me want for the pirate’s life was the freedom a pirate has to live life on our own terms. We do as we please, and are beholden to none. Quartermaster of La Llorona Interviewed by: Timber Gray Wolf
Q
Does your pirate prosoma have a back story?
Aye. He was taken by the English as a child to serve an indenture in Barbados, but escaped soon after arriving. Living on the streets for the next five years, he took to thieving and surviving until he got word of a pirate ship in need of crew not far from town, and signed on. He quickly proved himself and has since become Quartermaster.
Q
What is some the inspiration behind your garb?
Really, most of my inspiration comes from Jack Rackham, who often wore lighter, more practical attire better suited for the hot, humid weather of the tropics. In winter climes, I think I draw a bit from Edward Teach as well, going for a somewhat larger than life appearance.
Q
Outside of going to events, are there days that you just Garb up and go out on the town. If so what type of place do you happen to go and do?
On the first Sunday of every month, our crew Garbs Up and ventures forth to a crew elected locale in the Houston/Galveston area. We’ll wander about, getting pictures, talking to curious onlookers, and the like.
Q
From the great list of out there, what is one of your favorite pirate movies or books?
To this day, Treasure Island.
Q
Is there anything you would like to share with our readers?
Don’t forget to live a little. If it be a short life or long, make it a merry one!
Q
What do you like the most about going to the events and what is one of your favorite so far?
I like the atmosphere, how everyone around you wants to step back in time, same as you. My favourite event thus far has been Dickens on the Strand in Galveston, Tx.

IRISH BEEF TENDERLOIN • 5-6 oz beef tenderloin steaks (Filet Mignon) • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt • 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly cracked green peppercorns* • 1 tablespoon chopped shallots • 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
• 1/4 cup Guinness or dark Irish Ale • 3 tablespoons smoked ham, chopped • 1 cup demiglace • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley • 1-2 tablespoons butter
*Note: Mixed or black peppercorns may be substituted if green are not available.
1. Sprinkle tenderloin steaks with salt and cracked peppercorns (to crack peppercorns, place in a Ziploc and crush with the side of a cleaver or a heavy frying pan or rolling pin). 2. In a heavy skillet (cast iron works best) saute steaks until medium rare (or as you like it). Set aside on a warm platter. 3. Pour beer or ale into the skillet to deglaze. Add ham, shallots and garlic, and demiglace. Simmer until the quantity of the sauce has reduced by 1/4-1/3 of the volume. 4. Add parsley and butter to sauce; serve over steaks.
Sound of the Black Pearl Some of the most icon pirate music had to come from the Pirates of the Caribbean’s Curse of the Black Pearl, relisted in July 22 2003, by Walt Disney Records. From the track, one of the songs that rings in the back of our heads when we think pirate, “He’s a Pirate”, wrote by Klaus Badelt.
left the project and Gore Verbinski asked Hans Zimmer to take over. Zimmer was currently busy working on the music for the Last Samurai and promised not to take on other projects while working on Last Samurai. After the bulk of the work he collaborated with Badelt to write most of the score’s primary themes. Composer Alan Silvestri was Zimmer said he wrote most of the originally hired to write the score, tunes in the space of one night but due creative differences with and then recorded them in an allproducer Jerry Bruckheimer, Silvestri synthesized demo credited to him.
