annas have long been thought to bring bad luck on ships. At the height of the empire between Spain and the Caribbean in the 1700s, most cases of disapearing ships happened to be carrying a cargo of bananas at the time they went missing. Other say that the methana gas given off by the fermented bananas would become trapped below deck. Anyone in the hold (particulary aboard a slave ship}, woulf inhale the toxic air and succumb to the deadly fate. A final theory is that a spevies of deadly spiders would be hidden inside of the banana buches. The spider’s lethal bite caused crewmen to die suddenly, if they were lucky, otherwise it would be a long painful death. Heightening the fear that banana cargo was a bad omen on a cargo ship.

It'd be a cold Saturday nigh, n be time fer th rum review. So there we be, waitin on the next unsuspecting ship to cross our path. We be lain in a hidden inlet just north oh the shipping lane back to Europe. The wind, was right and just outa the west. We only had to draw canvas open and lift the anchor. That's when it was heard. It was a small voice that rang out from the foremast among the jib sails "hey you pirates". My quartermaster went to look but saw nothin. The voice came again but from the mizzen, aft up in the rigging was some sort of voice from something, trying my patience. "Hey you pirates, I needs to speak to your captain". I stepped up

the ladder to the wheel and said "here I am, now show ye self scallywag". At that moment this small human like but smaller creature flits and flirts down through the rigging, down to th deck. "Und hare I am captain". It was an elf, small in frame, long in the ears. It wasn't one oh those fancy elves either with the fancy duds and sharp long handled swords or a bow. It was one of Mr. Cringles elves, though I still couldn't believe me eyes. "What errand has Mr. Cringle sent you here for. To get our lists, well there all the same more gold, good flintlocks n hangers". "Pftt, no no no he's taken all that in accord en you'll be getting what he thinks is fair. No, he sent me to

tell you of his new favorite rum this year. Mr Morgan sent him some of his newest rum to try en he loves it". "Well what is this new rum you speak of Mr uhh" I said. "Oh me name isn't what's important here, only the message he sent. The rum is one fine blend of spices that belong in gingerbread, and it's only available for a limited time Gingerbread spiced rum". "Oh do you mean Captain Morgan?" "Yes that's the one I believe he was talkin about". On that last word he flew up into the sky and disappeared. I know the look on our faces must have been one oh astonishment, because none saw the Spanish gold ship slip past in time to make an impressive take down. In fact we were all dumbfounded at the spectacle that just happened. At last I did spy the ship but felt it would be for naught to try to chase her down. Hoist canvas mates were going to St Croix. Ad we were coming into view of the port we all saw stacks and stacks of barrels of rum preparing to leave by ship to the world. We immediately set anchor and rowed ashore. We purchased several casks and bottles of this new rum and set sail for Tortuga to attempt to make up some coin for the loss of the galleon we missed plundering. Needless to say we didn't quite make it to port before all the rum but this one bottle was gone. Why is the rum always gone when its needed.

they are sparse and intermittent. Nuthin consistent in nature. From Diego this doesn't surprise me I've not seen many other than the private stock that leaves decent legs. For the most part the rum just sheens of the sides and leaves droplets behind. The nose, this takes on the title of gingerbread for sure. That sweet smell wafting through the house just before cutting the sheets into the specific shapes to build the edible candy decorated Chris Cringle house. The taste, sweet and very very ginger, there is also cinnamon, cardamom, clove and nutmeg. Hints of vanilla through out. The only bite is from the spices, seeing that it is only 60 proof that is no surprise.

The color, In my snifter the rum is a pale gold and almost clear at the edge. In the bottle it's got a golden red brilliance. The legs you can forget them, Captain Jameson von Greywolfe

Back in May of 2019 Star~Dust and I traveled to Massachusetts for a week to see some fantastic sights. While in Boston we visited the Historical ship. The best part when we were visiting Boston we were in full Garb. Here is a really good WARNING to fellow pirates. The U.S.S. Constitution is set an active Navel Base, soooo no wepons. I set of the alarm so badly. Lucklifully didn't get in too much trouble.

USS Constitution is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She was named by President George Washington after the United States Constitution. She is the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel

that is still afloat after 213 years. She was launched in 1797, one of six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794: ... The act authorized the construction of six frigates at a total cost of $688,888.82. These ships were the first ships of what eventually became the present-day United States Navy ... The Constitution was the third ship to be constructed. Joshua Humphreys designed the frigates to be the young Navy’s capital ships, and so Constitution and her sisters were larger and more heavily armed and built than standard frigates of the period. She was built in the North End of Boston, Massachusetts at Edmund Hartt’s shipyard.

Her first duties were to provide protection for American merchant shipping during the Quasi-War with France. Her next mission was to defeat the Barbary pirates in the First Barbary War. Constitution is most noted for her actions during the War of 1812 against the United Kingdom, when she captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five British warships: HMS Guerriere, Java, Pictou, Cyane, and Levant. The battle with Guerriere earned her the nickname “Old Ironsides” and public adoration that has repeatedly saved her from scrapping. She continued to serve as flagship in the Mediterranean and African squadrons, and she circled the world in the 1840s. During the American Civil War, she served as a training ship for the United States Naval Academy. She carried American artwork and industrial displays to the Paris Exposition of 1878.

Constitution was retired from active service in 1881 and served as a receiving ship until being designated a museum ship in 1907. In 1934, she completed a three-year, 90-port tour of the nation. She sailed under her own power for her 200th birthday in 1997, and again in August 2012 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of her victory over Guerriere. Constitution’s stated mission today is to promote understanding of the Navy’s role in war and peace through educational outreach, historical demonstration, and active participation in public events as part of the Naval History & Heritage Command. As a fully commissioned Navy ship, her crew of 60 officers and sailors participate in ceremonies, educational programs, and special events while keeping her open to visitors year round and providing free tours. The officers and crew are all activeduty Navy personnel, and the assignment is considered to be special duty. She is usually berthed at Pier 1 of the former Charlestown Navy Yard at one end of Boston’s Freedom Trail.

During the War of 1812, USS Consitution's bow was decorated with a billethead similar to this one. In 1809 while undergoing repairs in New York, Commodore John Rodgers hired the Dodge brothers to carve it. Their design was a simple expanding spiral that connected to the flowing tailboards. The center of the tailboard featured a fearsome looking dragon with a tongue of a flames. The billethead you see was carved during USS Constition's 1906 restoration in Boston to resemble the War of 1812. Navel Constructor Wlliot Snow intended to fit "Old Ironside" with the dragon billethead whenever the United Startes went to war.

Dont forget to load the dairy Goat

In the Lower deck 5ft vs 6ft

It was a blast able to walk the lower decks of the ship. The lower deck where the Galley and most of the Cabins were, was about 5'7" at the cross beams, but stull plenty of head rum around them.

For some of us the name Green Dragon is an instant kick back to Assassin’s Creed III that takes place during the Colonial Revolutio. The Green Dragon was a common meeting place in the game, and still stands to this day. With a great food and drink selection. It is indeed a need to stop location while visiting. Located at 11 Marshall St, Boston, MA 02108, it is tucked away in the little historical alley of the city, just off the main drag from the port. Being a fan of the game, using the location also in my own novel we had to visit this historical restaurant. The Green Dragon Tavern was a public house used as a tavern and meeting place located on Union Street in Boston’s North End. In 1764, under the organization of Dr. Joseph Warren, Paul Revere and others who were opposed to the more “establishment oriented” St. John’s Lodge (sound familiar). The tavern was purchased by St. Andrew’s Lodge to be use as a meeting place for

their lodge. Naturally, the Freemasons kept the Green Dragon Tavern running as a tavern and bar. The Freemasons used the first floor for their meeting rooms. The basement tavern was used by several secret groups and became known by historians as the "Headquarters of the Revolution". The Sons of Liberty, Boston Committee of Correspondence and the Boston Caucus each met there. The Boston Tea Party was said to have been planned there and Paul Revere was sent from the Tavern to Lexington on his famous ride. In January 1788, a meeting of the Mechanics and Artisans of Boston passed a series of resolutions urging the importance of adopting the Federal Constitution pending at the time before a convention of delegates from around Massachusetts. The Green Dragon Tavern was not just a tavern or meeting place, but a place representing the freedom loving spirit of our forefathers. Men who were willing to stake everything on their convictions and beliefs.

All that is to be said can work for any persona building; you might be into the fantasy; Pirates, Elves to Orcs, Viking, Steampunk, or anything…

own, or a historical/fictional character? If you have a favorite character that you love and can pull off go for it or even let it inspire your own as a starting point.

A back story is not always needed, but is always fun to have one. Sometimes it can be hard to create a story for yourself. Where to begin is sometimes the hardest part of all. Should you take up the mantel of Captain or just be a simple villager? Well that is fully up to you or what your position is if you join a group. There are also plenty of places to get your inspiration spread across so many different fields; Historical, Fantasy, Video games, Movies, Books, and the Internet.

An easy start to help build your own persona is what is your “job”? When one thinks of a job, it feels like when you were in grade school and they asked you “what do you want to be when you grow up”. Are you a good leader, can you cook, a decent doctor (or real one), play instruments? From that you can start to create your persona off of one of those or even something that you wish you could be like a wizard or witch.

At some point it will feel like you are filling out a form for a DnD character. For some that have played DnD or RPG (Role Playing Games) this is something that they are used to doing. When it comes to creating your persona, are you creating your

This part can be fun for some and hard for others, coming up with one’s back story. This one can range from person to person’s type of character. Such as the chance an Orc isn’t going to be from cheer’o England over being from the Elwynn Forest. Figuring out these little things can help you choice your outfits as you go. After figuring out where your persona is from and their job/

class, how it might it act different from your normal self. A way to help is as simple as act it out with friends or in chatrooms. As you do it more and more your persona can take on a life of its own. A great example is someone that is the quiet and timid person at work, but at an event they are this great out going Warrior with courage of a Loin. When it comes down to it, it is fully up to you and have plenty of fun doing it.
