Movers and Shakers of Medina County
By Tyneshia DiseCommissioner
Q: Why did you choose to stay in Medina County?
A: Home sweet home. Many great things about living here make it my forever place to call “home.” This community is a great place to find employment or pursue educational goals. Medina County has many wonderful people and opportunities, especially with being conveniently located close to all the major highways, making it easy for our residents to commute.
Q: What’s one of your favorite things about where you live?
A: Medina County was founded in the 19th century. Our residents value that rich history by respecting the past and working towards preserving the future. Their commitment to our community is an endearing quality that few places can match and makes the residents of Medina County one of a kind.
Q: What are your favorite places to explore around the county?
A: I enjoy visiting Mapleside Farms in Brunswick. The farm is charming and has a timeless ability to captivate and delight visitors of all ages. I have to also include the Medina city downtown square and all of the great events and fun stuff by Main Street Wadsworth. Both downtowns are full of unique shops with year-round activities such as band concerts and farmer’s markets.
Steve Hambley was raised in Medina County. As a public servant, he is proud to call this area home, where people come first.
Q: What drew you to live and work here?
A: When my husband and I searched for a home 33 years ago, we found that Medina County had a wonderful family-friendly environment. It is a beautiful community. We found a home in the lovely township of Hinckley and have been there since the day we were married. I enjoy working for Medina County and feel fortunate to represent the residents as County Commissioner.
Q: What do you like about where you live?
A: What I love most about Medina County is its people — our residents care about the community. We also have excellent school systems that rank within the top 20% in Ohio. And finally, Medina County is home to many local charities engaged in the community’s needs. Local governments work together and collaborate for the betterment of all.
Q: Where do you like to spend your time?
A: Medina County has great local restaurants that I love to try. Thyme 2 is one of my favorite places to go.
Commissioner Colleen Swedyk loves her community, which shows in everything she does. She is thrilled to be able to serve and support the residents of Medina County.

DESTINATION
Medina
Medina has been called America’s Hometown, one of northeast Ohio’s most cherished secrets, overflowing with charm and a Norman Rockwell painting. By all accounts, the vibrant City of Medina has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Northeast Ohio. The city’s beautifully preserved Victorian architecture takes one back to a grander time of high buttoned shoes and top hats. Additionally, Medina is home to great shopping and dining, plus two major entertainment attractions both in repurposed historic buildings. You must come and experience America’s largest indoor year-round Christmas attraction, Castle Noel, housed in a former 1887 church. Originally built in 1910 as the sprawling Hollowware Foundry, Foundry Social now features an incredible assortment of classic and modern games, High Voltage Indoor Karting, delicious food and the MAD Brewing Company. Both are open year-round and worth the trip.
Medina offers a vast array of festivals and events that bring families, tourists and shoppers to its Historic Medina Square
Medina will lift your spirits and shake off the doldrums of winter with the four-day Medina Ice Festival held over President’s Day weekend. Enjoy the fire-and-ice tower and over 100 spectacular ice carvings. Throughout the year, Medina is home to numerous festivals, crafts and art shows, the South Town Music Festival and Medina County’s largest Farmers Market. Nowhere else will you find the 163-year tradition of the award-winning Medina Community Band playing its Friday night summer concert series and hosting ice cream socials on the Square.
Round out the year by experiencing the magic of the holidays with what has been named one of the best Christmas lighting displays in Ohio. The Medina Candlelight Walk kicks off with a parade, the arrival of Santa Claus, fireworks, carolers, picturesque window displays and the downtown sparkling with hundreds of luminaries and lighted buildings. What a perfect way to get in the holiday spirit.
Medina awaits your visit. For event information call 330-722-9029
