THE HYGGE TIMES MeyersUSA represents at the NYC Marathon
By Hannah Kramer- Office Manager, Meyers USA On Sunday November 5th, 2017, over 50,000 runners participated in the 47th Annual New York City Marathon. Our very own Claus Meyer and Katie Bell were among those runners and were kind enough to share their insights.
running beyond 50K a week the last month. This year I had just been running 3-4 5-6 K runs a week. So basically, no training at all. Katie: I follow training plans (loosely) but the main thing is just to run! I try to run 4 days a week, with one long run a week. The other half of training is eating well (and lots), drinking tons of water, and (attempting) to get a good amount of sleep. Still working on all of that, but that’s part of why I love training. Q: Are there any foods or drinks that are helpful to training/recovery? Claus: I went straight after the run to a gospel diner in Brownsville Community Culinary Center where we more or less had the whole menu. This is my second marathon. As last time, I just eat and drink what I love - but double portions for a few days and what a thrill that is!
Q: What made you decide to run the 2018 NYC marathon? Claus: I was inspired by the Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, who ran the New York Marathon in 2014, and also one day at a Great Northern Food Run in Central Park, the CEO of the New York Marathon ran with us, and I started flirting with the idea of experiencing the city and its vibes this way. Katie: This is my second time running the NYC Marathon. I love it as a great way to see the city.
Q: How do you prepare/train for running this type of race? Claus: Well this is not normal for me. The only other time I have run a Marathon was in Berlin 14 years ago where I followed a rigorous program

Q: Is there any advice you would give anyone thinking about starting to run or starting to train for a marathon? Claus: It’s probably a good idea to prepare for it, to follow a training program. Drink at lot of water before, especially during, and obviously after the run. Katie: Sign up for a 5k or a half marathon at nyrr.org! Half the battle is putting it on your calendar.
A Day in the Life of Brian Saldivar

Katie: Kannelsnurrer!! And oatmeal... tons of oatmeal. Q: How many marathons have you completed previously? How long have you been running? Claus: I have been running since I was 16. Katie: This was my fourth marathon, second NYC. I’ve been running since high school - I ran cross country and then coached in college.

The most popular recipes spanning the decades going back as far as 1800 have their own spot to shine too. Whether creating a sweet morsel after a hard day of decorating or preparing for a holiday cookie exchange have a great time with this time-honored volume.
I love this quote. I grew up a big baseball fan and being a Dodger fan I always saw Jackie Robinson almost being the face of the Dodgers. So what I take from this quote is to always put out the helping hand. Realistically we always think it has to be a big impact but I don’t see it that way. Just holding a door open for someone or giving up your seat in the subway can change anyone’s day in. We should always put out the helping hand and do a little more especially during the winter and holiday season. Best, Marcos Muñoz, Baker, GNFH
