August 2012

Young people out to tackle litter problem! Local residents took to the streets with Great Places’ staff and young people in the area to tackle the growing problem of litter. Crossley saw Kent Avenue car park and Rochester Way targeted for a clean up. The team also planted a small garden next to the Kent Avenue flower display. The Primrose Bank gang got their hands dirty clearing up the alley between Lee Street and Chelmsford Street, which had been used for fly tipping. Great Places’ community development co-ordinator, Jan Wade said: “Many of the young people were amazed at the amount of rubbish, and couldn’t understand why people didn’t dispose of their rubbish in an appropriate manner. Thanks to everyone that took part in both litter picks – they all did a fantastic job!”

Residents from Crossley and Primrose Bank get their hands dirty at recent litter picks.

Kerbside clean-ups keep caretakers busy Oldham PFI residents recently took the opportunity to get rid of all their unwanted items, thanks to the popular kerbside cleanup programme. Caretakers Denis and Jason were kept busy for two days, driving around to collect items that were left for them in residents’ gardens.

In total, a mammoth 10 van loads were removed and taken to the tip!

Primrose Bank’s ping-pong windfall Following the London Olympics, Primrose Bank Tenants’ and Residents Association (PETRA), gave tomorrow’s table tennis stars a much-needed boost with a £500 donation to help fund training costs!

The grant will help to buy extra table tennis equipment and contribute towards hiring a worldclass table tennis coach to work with the youngsters. Roll on Rio 2016!
