RULES AND REGULATIONS This show is a regular member of USEF. ―EVERY CLASS OFFERED HEREIN WHICH IS COVERED BY THE RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS OFTHE CURRENT FEDERATION RULE BOOK WILL BE CONDUCTED AND JUDGED IN ACCORDANCE THEREWITH.‖ ENTRIES: A) Closing date is September 10, 2010 for Southwest Showdown & September 20, 2010 for Great Southwest Fall Classic. B) Entries received after the closing date may be charged a late fee of $35.00. C) Management reserves the right to limit the number of entries. Entries will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. D) Entry blanks will not be accepted unless signed and completely filled out and accompanied by a check. Anyone under the age of 18 must have the signature of a parent or responsible adult. It is the responsibility of the person making the entry to execute properly and complete all necessary information pertaining to each entry made in accordance with USEF rules. E) NO NUMBERS WILL BE ISSUED WITHOUT AN OPEN CHECK. F) NO FAXED ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED! EXHIBITOR NOTES: A) A $50.00 Office and Administrative fee will be charged to each horse on competition grounds. This will also include schooling the day prior to the horse show and/or other riding times in show rings as posted with EMT on duty. B) Mgmt. may refuse to give awards to horses competing without a back number. C) Processing fee of $40 + collection fees will be assessed for non-negotiable checks. D) Tack stalls & shavings can be divided if you notify the office the first day of show. E) A negative EIA (Coggins Test) must accompany each entry blank. F) In the interest of horse welfare; management may limit the number of classes a horse can compete in at this competition. G) All non showing horses must pay a fee of $100 and complete an entry blank with all applicable signatures. H) Refunds will be given only with a certificate of illness or injury from an accredited veterinarian and presented to horse show secretary before the start of the show. Monies will be refunded if classes are canceled due to weather or other emergency. In either case the show will retain its office fee and any stabling fees. I) No phone-in feed orders will be taken! J) USHJA Zone Support Fee of $2.00. STALLS & SHIP-INS: A) Permanent & temporary stabling will be available at a cost of $175 for the week. B) Ship-ins will be charged a $50.00 ground/clean up fee per horse. nd C) Stalls will be available for move-in on Wednesday, September 22 . D) 12' x 12' and 10' x 10' permanent stalls (with doors) are available. E) Stalls must be returned to GSEC in the same condition upon move-in. All nails, hooks, etc. Must be removed from stalls upon move-out. F) No sharing of stalls allowed. G) Shavings available for purchase on show grounds. THJA POINTS: No points will be counted toward THJA annual awards until membership dues have been paid and horses have been recorded with THJA before the start date of this show. CAMPERS: A) Camper spaces are available for $225 per week for 30 amp and 50 amp and will include one pump-out and must be paid in advance. B) Camper fees will not be split on show bills.
CREDENTIALS: All exhibitors in the pony, Junior Hunter, and any Amateur section must present their measurement card and/or their amateur certifications at the show office before their numbers can be released. To speed processing please attach a Photostat of necessary paperwork with your entry blank. All entries must be recorded pursuant to the current USHJA recording rules. DRUGS & MEDICATIONS: A) Current USEF rules relating to drugs & medications will be enforced. B) Each horse entered must pay a $15 Federation Fee. $7.00 Equine Drug & Medication Fee plus a $8.00 USEF fee. C) Sharps and medical waste must be disposed of in sharps containers placed around the barns. Anyone found dumping medical waste into manure bins and/or trash bins will be asked to leave the showgrounds. D) All competitors are asked to comply with the USEF Testing Veterinarians in a courteous and efficient manner. SCHOOLING: A) Schooling will be posted or announced. A medic will be on duty during that time. B) ASTM-SEI approved headgear must be worn on schooling day in addition to showing days. FOOTING AND ARENAS: A) Main Hunter (Otto Sports) ring is approximately 125‖ x 275‖ w/ Otto Sports Footing. B) Second Hunter Ring is approximately 125‖ x 275‖ with sandy loam footing. C) Jumper Indoor I arena is 150' x 290'. Indoor 2 arena is 125' x 250'. D) Footing is a priority; rings may be closed to schooling during inclement weather and/or for maintenance at any time during the show at the manager’s discretion. PRIZE MONIES AND AWARDS: A) Prize monies due to competitors will be credited and/or paid at the show upon check-out. B) NO PRIZE MONEY WILL BE MAILED UNLESS THE OWNER’S SOCIAL SECURITY OR EIN IS LISTED ON THE ENTRY FORM. C) Arrangement for foreign funds must be pre-arranged with show management. JUMPERS: A) A rotating random jump order will be used pursuant to JP112.2 st B) Ties (other than 1 ) will be separated by time taken in the first round. Ties in Jumper classes jump off for first only. C) GR1102.3 — Horses must be recorded with the Federation in Jumper classes offering prize money at competitions which offer $2,500 or more in the jumper division. COURSES: 1. Courses will be posted a minimum of 30 minutes prior to each class. 2. At management’s discretion, a dotted line may be put into effect to restrict the size of the courtesy circle in the hunter classes. HORSE REGISTRATIONS: A) All horses competing in Federation non-breed restricted licensed competitions with hunter, hunter breeding, jumper and hunter seat equitation classes (except those activities enumerated in GR901.9, items 1-9) must be properly identified and must obtain a Registration Number from USHJA. A registration number for each horse must be entered on all entry forms for licensed competitions. Proof of registration must be presented to the Show Secretary before numbers can be released.
TROPHIES / CHAMPIONSHIPS 1. Hunter classes receive a trophy and eight ribbons & Equitation classes receive a trophy and six ribbons unless otherwise noted. 2. All Jumper classes receive a trophy and six ribbons unless otherwise noted. All Jumper Champion & Reserve awards to follow USEF rule JP-110 3. Each hunter section will receive a champion & reserve award based on points unless otherwise noted. USEF rule HU-7 4. Full Championship points will be given in all classes in each hunter section except Green Conformation Hunter Model which will count as half points. In all hunter sections, Champion and Reserve Champion will be awarded to two of the top four horses acquiring the most points over fences. In addition, only these four horses will receive full points for ribbons won under saddle and half points for ribbons won in the model (full points for Reg. Conf. MOTORIZED VEHICLE POLICY: Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver’s license. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordance with Rule 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule. (GR1301.7)
ADDITIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS A) Every Competitor will comply with the rules of the show management, but management will, in no case, be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur, and it shall be the condition of entry that each competitor shall hold this horse show, the GSEC, Southbound Show Mgmt., it’s Directors and employees, and the officials and employees of the show blameless for any loss or accident to his horse, employees, equipment, which may occur from sickness, fire, accident, or otherwise. The competitor also acknowledges that equine activity carries an inherent risk of accident and/or death, and that the sole responsibility for choosing to participate rest with the competitor and their trainer. B) Competitors, guests, and vendors are responsible for their own property. C) The GSEC and Southbound Show Mgmt. are not responsible for theft, fire, or loss. D) All questions and protests not covered by association rules will be decided upon and interpreted by competition management. E) Management reserves the right to cancel, combine, add, delay, and reschedule classes in the best interests of the horse show and its operations. RESPONSIBILITY: Submission of entry to these shows constitutes an agreement to the following: Exhibitor agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Great Southwest Equestrian Center LP, Southbound Show Management Inc, Patrick Rodes, Southwest Showdown Horse Show, Horse Show Management against any claims, demands, costs and expenses, including reasonable attorney fees for the defense thereof, arising from the conduct or management of Exhibitor’s business or its use of the premises or from any breach on the part of Exhibitors of any conditions of this Agreement, or contractors, agents, employees, guests, or invitees in or about the premises. In case of any action or proceeding brought against Great Southwest Equestrian Center LP, Southbound Show Management Inc, Patrick Rodes, Southwest Showdown Horse Show, Horse Show Management by reason of any such claim. Exhibitor, upon notice, covenants to defend such action or proceeding by council acceptable to owner. Exhibitor is responsible for his/her own property and the GSEC is not responsible for accidents, fire or theft. SAFETY AND WELFARE: A) Pursuant to USEF rule GR 301: Dogs are to be leashed & under the owner control. B) All motorized vehicles must be operated in a safe and responsible manner. C) Pursuant to USEF rule GR 801: An ASTM-SEI approved helmet must be worn on GSWEC grounds at all times when mounted. Harness must be securely fashioned. D) All horses competing at Great Southwest Eq. Center must be cared for and competed with priority given to the horse’s health and welfare. E) Management may excuse any competitor from the grounds who does not maintain a horses feed, water, or minimum standards of care and custody. F) Riders must take full responsibility upon entry that they are fit and qualified to compete at this level of competition, and that they understand the inherent risk of equine activities.
THJA MEMBER STATEMENT: THJA MEMBERS SHALL BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL CLASSES AT COMPETITIONS RECOGNIZED BY THJA. A NON-MEMBER MAY PARTICIPATE AS A RIDER, OWNER, LESSEE, AGENT, OR TRAINER IN THJA RECOGNIZED SHOWS UPON PAYMENT OF A $10.00 REGISTRATION FEE. PARTICIPANTS IN THE FOLLOWING CLASSES ARE EXEMPTED FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS RULE: (1) LEADLINE, (2) EXHIBITIONS, (3) GAMES AND RACES, (4) BEGINNER, (5) SHORT-STIRRUP, (6) PRE-BEGINNER, AND (7) BABY GREEN. (See also THJA Bylaws, Section 1F). NON-RESIDENTS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS ARE EXEMPT FROM THE PAYMENT OF NON-MEMBER FEES. IF A MEMBER DOES NOT HAVE A MEMBERSHIP CARD WITH HIM/HER, OR IS NOT ON THE CURRENT THJA ROSTER, A $10.00 NON-MEMBER FEE MUST BE PAID. A CHECK FOR THE NON-MEMBER FEE AND/OR A MEMBERSHIP AFFIDAVIT FORM MUST BE FILED WITH THE HORSE SHOW OFFICE. THE NON-MEMBER FEE WILL BE REFUNDED UPON PROOF OF THJA MEMBERSHIP. A PERSON/HORSE MAY REGISTER WITH THE THJA AT A RECOGNIZED HORSE SHOW AS LONG AS THE APPLICATION(S) AND PAYMENT ACCOMPANY THE OFFICIAL HORSE SHOW RESULTS. PAYMENT MAY BE MADE IN THE FORM OF A PERSONAL CHECK, BUSINESS CHECK OR CASHIER’S CHECK.
USEF MEMBERSHIP STATEMENT Life, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. A nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving Competitions upon payment of a $30 nonmember registration fee. Participants in the following classes are exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot and academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux and quadrille classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8) Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof, in English, of current membership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes Federation Entry Agreement By entering a Federation-licensed Competition and signing this entry blank as the Owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager, Agent, Coach, Driver, Rider, Handler, Vaulter or Longeur and on behalf of myself and my principals, representatives, employees and agents, I agree that I am subject to the Bylaws and Rules of The United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. (the ―Federation‖) and the local rules of the competition. I agree to be bound by the Bylaws and Rules of the Federation and of the competition. I will accept as final the decision of the Hearing Committee on any question arising under the Rules, and agree to release and hold harmless the competition, the Federation, their officials, directors and employees for any action taken under the Rules. I represent that I am eligible to enter and/or participate under the Rules, and every horse I am entering is eligible as entered. I also agree that as a condition of and in consideration of acceptance of entry, the Federation and/or the Competition may use or assign photographs, videos, audios, cablecasts, broadcasts, internet, film, new media or other likenesses of me and my horse taken during the course of the competition for the promotion, coverage or benefit of the competition, sport, or the Federation. Those likenesses shall not be used to advertise a product and they may not be used in such a way as to jeopardize amateur status. I hereby expressly and irrevocably waive and release any rights in connection with such use, including any claim to compensation, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, or to misappropriation. The construction and application of Federation rules are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any action instituted against the Federation must be filed in New York State. See GR908.4. HUNTER DIVISION Classes will be judged on performance and soundness unless otherwise noted in the prize list. Please refer to the current USEF rulebook for additional specifications and rules that may be applicable to the hunter division. Horses to be judged on conformation, way of moving, quality, substance, soundness and suitability to become or in the case of sires and dams apparent ability to produce or beget hunters. Transmissible unsoundness is only to be considered in cases of sires and dams or prospective sires and dams. Yearlings, two-year-olds, and three-year olds are to walk and jog before being moved on the line in order of preference. First place winners in classes 400, 401 and 402 to return for Best Young Horse.
Conditions and Specifications GENERAL Classes will be judged on performance and soundness unless otherwise noted in the prize list. All USEF hunter divisions and classes will be split according to current USEF rules, others will be divided as a California split. Each Section will be awarded Champion and Reserve. Regular Hunter: Open to all horses. Fences 4'. Individual classes may not be entered. Green Hunter: Fences 3'6" (1st Year). Fences 3'9" (2nd Year). Individual classes may not be entered. Amateur-Owner Working Hunter: Fences 3'3" and 3'6". USEF amateur card required. Individual classes may not be entered. Junior Hunter: Fences 3'6". USEF measurements cards required. Individual classes may not be entered. Pre-Green Working Hunter: Open to horses or ponies who have not shown over fences in a recognized show prior to previous calendar year. Ponies will receive a score in their second round class of their regular pony hunter division on Sunday. The top 12 ponies will be invited back to compete over a second round course on Sunday. Conditions and Specifications General: 1. Nominating Fee. Nomination fee of $150 is required for those divisions listed in the Nominated Jumper Section. Late nominating fee of $175 if not paid before noon Monday of each week. Horses will only pay one nominating fee regardless of cross entry into money divisions and classics. 2. Championships will be awarded in jumper sections that offer 3 or more classes, except Training. Championships will be decided on the basis of points won in classes throughout the section. Per JP110. 3. Numbers must be worn on riders back or on the saddle pad so that it is visible to the paddock master. 4. Riders should be properly attired. 5. Exhibitors are responsible with familiarizing themselves with all pertinent current USEF rules and regulations for the jumper division and jumper schooling areas. 6. Poling or offsets will not be permitted on the grounds. 7. Ties for placing other than first place will be separated by time. 8. Management may institute random boot checks and inspections of horses at their discretion. 9. Children & Adult Jumpers will be combined if there are less than eight entries in either section. Adult Amateur Jumper: Open to Adult Amateur riders on horses only. Horse/rider combination may not cross enter between low and high divisions. Children’s Jumper: Open to Children riders on horses only. Horse/rider combination may not cross enter between low and high divisions. SOUTHWEST SHOWDOWN / GSEC FALL CLASSIC HORSE SHOW is operated in accordance with current rules of the Texas Hunter & Jumper Association by which it is recognized and rated: “A” in Regular, Amateur Owner, Green, Green Pony, Pony, Children’s Pony, Junior, Children’s, and Adult Hunter, and Jr/AO Jumper, Children’s Jumper, Adult Jumper. Points for placing in Junior, Pony, Children or Adult Equitation & Hunter Breeding classes will be credited in accordance with the rules of the THJA A person/horse may register with the THJA at a recognized horse show as long as the application(s) and payment accompany the official horse show results. Payment may be made in the form of a personal check, business check or cashier‟s check.Points Points toward THJA Annual Awards will count when membership dues have been paid and the horse has been registered. If a member does not have a membership card with him/her or is not on the current THJA roster, a $10 non-member fee must be paid. A check for the $10 non-member fee & Membership Affidavit Form must be filed w/ the horse show secretary. The non-member fee will be refunded upon proof of THJA membership.

Riders are not required to wear special attire as described in HU146.5, but must wear protective headgear in accordance with GR801.2&.3. All Current eligibility requirements must be met. Children's Hunter Pony: Open to ponies ridden by a Junior Exhibitor with no other age restrictions applicable. Rider and/or pony may enter any Equitation classes. The rider may compete on a different horse or pony at the same show in any other division or section for which the rider/mount is eligible. The pony may be shown by a different rider in any other division or section at the same show except USEF Rated Hunter Pony classes. To be judged on performance, soundness, manners, way of going, suitability of size of rider to mount, and suitability as a Children's Hunter. Ponies not required to be jogged for soundness. Small ponies to be shown at 2', Medium Ponies at 2'3", and Large Ponies at 2'6"; spreads not to exceed height of fence. No minimum prize money is required. Pre-Green Hunter: A Pre-Green hunter is a horse in his 1st or 2nd year of showing over fences 3' or higher at Regular Member Competitions or Combined Training Events. A horse may show in the PreGreen Hunter Section of an USEF Zone VII Recognized Competition for no more than two years. PreGreen Classics will be awarded points equal to those given in USEF "B" Hunter Classics. Show management may offer two sections of Pre-Green Hunter (Fence Heights 3' and 3'3") or only one section at either height. Horses may only be entered in one section. Zone awards will be presented annually as one section. Reinstatement of Pre-Green Status: A horse’s pre-green status may be reinstated for a future competition year in accordance with USEF rule HU105 for regaining green status. Adult Amateur Jumper: To be ridden by Amateurs who are no longer eligible to compete as Junior Exhibitors. Cash winnings do not influence this classification.
Children's Jumper: To be ridden by Junior Exhibitors. Cash winnings do not influence this classification. Class conditions for Adult Amateur and Children's Jumper: The first two classes in the Low Adult Amateur and/or Children’s Jumper section will be conducted at 1.00m. The third and any subsequent classes in the Low section to include a classic will be conducted at 1.05m. The first two classes in the High Adult Amateur and/or Children’s Jumper section will be conducted at 1.10m. The third and any subsequent classes in the High section to include a classic will be conducted at 1.15m. If only one section is offered, the classes will be conducted under 1.10m for all classes offered in the section. Competition Management may restrict cross entries between High and Low sections at the same show if stated in the prize list. Courses must be set, and/or adjusted if necessary, to provide safe and suitable distances between jumps in relation to fence heights. Classes to be scored under Table I; Table II, Section 1, Sections 2(a), 2(b), 2(c), or 3; or Table IV (Optimum Time). Cross entry into Junior or Amateur Owner Jumper or any class at 1.25 m and above is not permitted for the same horse/rider combination at the same show. A combined Adult Amateur/Children's Jumper section may be offered, and if entries warrant, may thereafter be split into separate sections. Exceptions: An exception is permitted to any or all of the sections described above only under the following conditions: The rule-making organization must be a statewide USEF Affiliated Association. State exceptions can apply only in shows held within that state. State specifications must have been published and sent to each member of the state association, each member of the Zone 7 Committee, USEF and the manager of every show that applies for State Association recognition or sanction. State rules that are valid exceptions to the general Zone 7 specifications can be more restrictive, but can not reduce or eliminate any of the Zone 7 stated criteria spelled out above and must be printed in their entirety under the applicable section heading in the prize list.
