WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2015 SHEEP AND LAMB AUCTION STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to a week ago: Slaughter lambs traded unevenly steady on comparable tests. Feeder lambs could not be trended due to there being no test last week. Slaughter ewes traded steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter kids traded unevenly steady on comparable tests. Trade activity was moderate to good and buyer demand was good to very good. In the sheep supply 26% slaughter lambs, 30% feeder lambs, 42% slaughter ewes and bucks and the balance replacement ewes. The goat supply consisted of 60% slaughter kids, 12% slaughter nannies and the balance slaughter billies and wethers. Around 350 head of slaughter cattle sold today. The quality of lean beef cows today was exceptional, and the demand was strong, especially for young cows. There were a few beef cows on the fleshy side who averaged $124.50, and the lean beef cows ranged from 110.00-128.00. 2-4 yr old lean beef cows topped today’s market averaging $125.00. Demand for Holstein slaughter cows today was considerably lower than last week, by about $8. Smooth Holstein cows ranged 98.00-108.50, lean Holstein cows had a broad range of 103.50-113.50. Highlights of the Holstein sale included lean cows out of Roggen and Wiggins. We had a nice bull sale today, with feeder type bulls from Hudson and Platteville and big bulls from Craig and Greeley topping the market.
