WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22, 2015 SHEEP AND LAMB AUCTION
STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to a week ago: Slaughter lambs traded mostly 8.00 – 10.00 higher on a very light test. Feeder lambs did not have enough comparable tests to compare for an accurate trend. Slaughter ewes traded steady to 10.00 higher. Slaughter kids traded sharply higher. Trade activity was moderate to good and buyer demand was good to very good. In the sheep supply 22% slaughter lambs, 9% feeder lambs, 61% slaughter ewes and bucks and the balance bottle lambs that range from 8 – 15 lbs mostly sold for 17.00 – 26.00 each. The goat supply consisted of 58% slaughter kids, 30% slaughter nannies and the balance slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted. Over 350 head of slaughter cattle sold today. Beef and Holstein cows both were a few dollars higher than last week, but the quality of the beef cows was also higher. Lean fleshed cows from Nunn and Cheyenne sold especially well today. Throughout the beef cow sale, lean, older cows with good body condition averaged right around $114.00, and the younger beef cows with good body condition averaged around $120.00. Holstein slaughter cows, with good body condition showed little distinction in prices between lean and fleshy. Nicely fleshed Holstein slaughter cows ranged $102-115.50. Thinner Holsteins ranged $98.00-105.00. Cows who weren’t in as good body condition and shelly cows ranged $94.00-97.00.
