SPECIAL HOLSTEIN/HOLSTEIN CROSS STEER AUCTION

STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last month: Holstein steers under 400 lbs were too thinly traded for an adequate market test. 400-600 lbs steers traded sharply lower. There were no comparable trades on steers over 600 lbs. Trade activity was moderate. The supply consisted of approximately 95% Holstein steers with the balance being mostly Jersey and Jersey cross steers with a few Holstein heifers.

Approximately 22% of the supply weighed over 600 lbs.

The next special Holstein Feeder cattle sale will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015.

STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to a week ago: Slaughter lambs were steady and feeder lambs were 3.00 – 5.00 lower on comparable tests. Slaughter ewes were 5.00 – 6.00 lower and slaughter bucks were 3.00 – 7.00 lower.

Slaughter kids traded unevenly steady and nannies and billies traded steady. Trade activity was good and demand was moderate. In the sheep supply 34% slaughter lambs, 32% feeder lambs, 33% slaughter ewes and bucks The goat supply consisted of 67% slaughter Kids, 16% slaughter nannies and the balance slaughter billies and wethers.

and the market was fairly steady in all classes of cattle for comparable quality from previous weeks. Holstein cows with good to excellent body condition ranged from 101-110.00. Beef cows in similar condition ranged 106.50-113.50. Bulls were well represented today with good, lean bulls bringing a premium price, the top end of which ranged $140-150. We had some nice Holstein heifers out of Greeley and Eaton today, and two project steers from a young man out of Gill who did a great job feeding them.
