All dairy animals born after March 11, 2013 (heifers including barren heifers) steers and bulls must be officially ID’d with a federal approved ear tag. No untagged dairy animal may be shipped interstate without the ID tags from the premise of origin and a health certificate stating the same. Approved official ear tags may be purchased from the Rocky Mountain Lab @ 303-477-0049. USDA & Colorado Market News Reporting Compared to last month: holstein steers weighing under 550 lbs traded mostly 22.00 to 25.00 higher on comparable sales. Holstein steers weighing over 550 lbs traded mostly 5.00 to 15.00 higher.

Trading activity was active on very good buyer demand. The supply consisted of about 97% holstein steers with the remaining balance being holstein heifers. About 29% of the supply weighed over 600 lbs. Over 300 head of weigh cows were represented today. Once again, there was high demand for fat weigh cows, as well as smooth, lean weigh cows. Fat beef cows averaged in the upper seventies to low eighties, lean beef cows averaged in the mid seventies. Thin beef cows averaged from Combined Feeder/Slaughter Sale 68.00-71.50. Fat holsteins ranged 77.00-84.00, lean holsteins ranged 72.00-75.00, and thin holsteins August 21st ranged from 65.00-72.00. Fat beef cows and bulls really took a hit today, and were lower by $4-5, Combined Feeder/Slaughter Sale slaughter dairy cows were better off and sold steady to $1 lower.
