All dairy animals born after March 11, 2013 (heifers including barren heifers) steers and bulls must be officially ID’d with a federal approved ear tag.

No untagged dairy animal may be shipped interstate without the ID tags from the premise of origin and a health certificate stating the same. Approved official ear tags may be purchased from the Rocky Mountain Lab @ 303-477-0049. For further clarification of these new federal regulations, you may contact the Colorado State Veterinary office @ 303-239-4161 or the State Veterinarian for your state.

Compared to last week: A higher undertone was noted on slaughter lambs. No trend available for feeder lambs due to limited comparable sales from the previous week. Slaughter ewes traded mostly 4.00 – 11.00 lower. Slaughter bucks traded mostly 2.00 – 5.00 lower. Slaughter kids traded mostly steady to 1.00 higher. Slaughter nannies traded mostly steady to weak.

Slaughter billies and wethers traded mostly weak on a thin test from the previous week. Trading activity was moderate on moderate demand. In the sheep supply 40% slaughter lambs, 22% feeder lambs and 38% ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of 58% slaughter kids, 22% slaughter nannies and 20% billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

Large strings of grass cattle were on offer, with the majority of the supply consisting of Feeder Steers weighing between 800 and 1000 pounds. No recent comparable sales on slaughter cows and bulls but markets were firm.

Trading activity was active on good buyer demand. The supply consisted of 91 percent feeder cattle, and 9 percent slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder cattle supply was comprised of approximately 84 percent steers and 16 percent heifers. About 88 percent of the feeder supply weighed over 600 lbs.

Over 450 head of weigh cows were represented today. Fat beef cows were higher again this week, with prices ranging from $85.00-92.50. Lean beef cows averaged in the mid eighties. Thin beef cows ranged from $66.50-73.00. There was strong demand for both fat and smooth, lean holsteins with prices overlappoing Combined Feeder/Slaughter Sale for the two body conditions. Fat holsteins ranged $73.50-84.00, lean holsteins ranged $71.50-76.50, and thin Aug 28th holsteins ranged from $67.50-72.00. Fat beef cows and bulls both bounced back today with bulls bringing $2 Combined Feeder/Slaughter Sale higher and beef cows up as much as $8-10. Slaughter dairy cows sold steady to $1 higher. Some nice feeder Sept 4th steers out of Ft.
