STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week: No price trend available on slaughter lambs due to limited comparable sales this week. Due to a thin test on feeder lambs no trend available, however a weaker undertone was noted. Slaughter ewes traded mostly steady to 4.00 higher. No trend available on slaughter bucks, however a higher undertone was noted. In the goat trade, slaughter kids traded mostly steady to 2.00 lower. Not enough comparable sales on slaughter nannies for an accurate market analysis though, a weaker undertone was noted. Slaughter billies traded mostly steady. No trend available on slaughter wethers due to a thin test. Trade activity was moderate on good buyer demand. In the sheep supply 9% slaughter lambs, 50% slaughter ewes and bucks, 29% feeder lambs, with the balance being replacement ewes. The goat supply consisted of 62% slaughter kids, 27% slaughter nannies and 11% slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

Buyer demand was good with the most advances noted on preconditioned cattle that had at least a 30 day wean. Trading activity was moderate to active. Slaughter cows traded mostly 4.00-5.00 lower.

Slaughter bulls were steady to weak. The supply consisted of 88% feeder cattle & the balance percent slaughter cows & bulls. The feeder cattle supply was comprised of approx 53% steers & 47% heifers. Approx 44% of the feeder supply weighed over 600lbs.

At auction: nearly 600 head of cows and bulls, and 500 head of feeders were represented today.

Bulls were steady as compared to last week, ranging in the high 80’s to 108.00. Beef cows were higher this week with lean cows showing strong with prices in the upper 80’s. Holstein cows were slightly lower this week, with lean cows averaging in the mid 70’s and, and fat holstein cows ranging in the upper 70’s with a few coming in the low 80’s. Topping bred cows today were 5/7 mo and averaged $1595. Overall, there was a nice representation of bred cows from; rock river wy, eaton co and ault co ranging from 2-8 mo bred, and averaged $1325. Bred heifers, also from rock river wy ranged from $1400-1610. 90 Head of black and black white faced heiferettes out of utah averaged 880# at $146.00/Cwt. Feeder cattle sold strong today.
