STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week: Steer calves weighing under 600 lbs sold steady to 5.00 lower on comparable trades. Feeder steers weighing over 600 lbs sold 2.00 – 5.00 higher on increased buyer demand. Heifer calves weighing under 600 lbs sold mostly 5.00 – 10.00 lower on limited offerings. Feeder heifers sold mostly steady. Quality of cattle was mixed today with several buyers in attendance. Buyers most aggressive on 600 – 700 lbs long weaned, preconditioned cattle with strong fall vaccination programs. Trading activity was moderate to active on good demand. The feeder cattle supply was comprised of approximately 58% steers and bulls and 42% heifers. About 64% of the feeder supply weighed over 600 lbs.

Feeder lambs were too lightly tested to trend. Slaughter goats on all classes traded steady to 10.00 lower, instances of 15.00 lower on slaughter kids weighing over 85 lbs. Demand was moderate. Trading activity was moderate to active. In

the sheep supply 40% slaughter lambs, 30% slaughter ewes and bucks, 12% feeder lambs with the balance being replacement ewes. Over 500 head of holstein slaughter cows, 216 colored cows and 27 bulls were represented today. Most feeder cattle were sold yesterday at our stock show special sale, however there was some carry over. Fat beef cows ranged from the low 90’s to $119.00. Lean beef cows ranged from 79.50-90.00/Cwt with thin beef cows averaging in the low 70’s. The fatter holstein cows averaged in the mid to high eighties with a few breaking into the 90’s. Lean holstein cows ranging in the high 70’s to low 80’s. Notable consignments today included black and red cows with excellent cover out of Steamboat Springs, La Salle, and Thatcher, utah. Also, top quality holstein heifers out of Roggen and La Salle, and black and red heiferettes out of Hanna, Utah.

Heifer calves weighing under 550 pounds traded mostly 9.00 to 10.00 lower. Feeder heifers weighing over 550 pounds traded 2.00 to 6.00 lower. Quality was once again very attractive, with the majority of the consignments consisting of long weaned calves with strong fall vaccination programs.

Trading activity was active on very good buyer demand. The feeder cattle supply was comprised of approximately 60 percent steers and 40 percent heifers. About 66 percent of the feeder supply weighted over 600 lbs.
