State and federal reporting Compared to last week: Slaughter and feeder lambs traded mostly 3.00 – 6.00 higher. Slaughter ewes traded mostly 3.00 – 10.00 higher, with instances of 10.00 – 15.00 higher on high dressing ewes. Slaughter bucks traded mostly 4.00 – 10.00 higher. Slaughter kids traded mostly 5.00 – 8.00 higher. No price analysis on slaughter nannies, slaughter bucks or slaughter wethers due to limited comparable sales. Increased buyer demand was noted on lambs weighing over 90 lbs as well as on all ewes in preparation of the Muslim Holiday Eid al-Adha. Additionally increased buyer demand was noted on replacement goats due to high quality fancy type on offer as this was the annual replacement goat special. Trade activity was moderate to active. In the sheep supply 40% slaughter lambs, 30% feeder lambs, 27% slaughter ewes and bucks and 3% replacement ewes. The goat supply consisted of 64% slaughter kids, 20% slaughter nannies, 4% slaughter billies and wethers, with the balance being replacement nannies. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

Nearly 500 head of weigh cows were represented today, with the market being fairly steady as compared to last week. Bulls showed a strong rebound and were up by $3-5. Lean and fat colored cows were both in demand with prices ranging from 76.50-89.00. Feeder cattle were steady to slightly higher. Lean and fat holstein weigh cows were in good supply, with demand for both ranging from 68.00-84.50. Overall, we had a nice representation of smooth, good fleshed holstein cows today. Heifer calves were mostly 3.00 to 4.00 higher on a light test. Yearling type steers and heifers traded steady to 4.00 higher. Buyer demand was good for high quality reputation cattle, with moderate demand on smaller packages of calves. Slaughter cows and bulls traded near steady to weak. Trading activity was moderate.

The supply consisted of 88 percent feeder cattle, and 12 percent slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder cattle supply was comprised of approximately 57 percent steers and 43 percent heifers. Approximately 72 percent of the feeder supply weighed over 600 lbs.
