SPECIAL HOLSTEIN/HOLSTEIN CROSS STEER AUCTION STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING

Compared to last month: Holstein steers under 500 lbs traded sharply lower, 500 – 750 lbs were mostly 4.00 – 10.00 lower and there were no comparable trades on steers over 750 lbs. Traded activity and buyer demand light to moderate. The supply consisted of approximately 77% Holstein steers with the balance being Jersey steers, Jersey cross steers and Holstein heifers. Approximately 23% of the supply weighed over 600 lbs. The next Holstein feeder cattle auction will be on Monday, June 6, 2016.

Compared to a week ago: Slaughter lambs traded steady to 10.00 lower. There were no feeder lambs last week to compare, but the market was firm with a large quantity of young high quality lambs. Slaughter ewes traded unevenly steady. In the goat supply, slaughter kids traded unevenly steady. Slaughter nannies/does traded mostly steady, while bucks/billies and wethers were steady to 10.00 higher. Trade activity and demand was good. In the sheep supply 35% slaughter lambs, 26% feeder lambs, 27% slaughter ewes and bucks and the remainder were bottle lambs ranging from 5-20 lbs that sold mostly at 4.00 – 11.00 per head. The goat supply consisted of 55% slaughter kids with the balance slaughter nannies, billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.
