On behalf of the volunteers and staff, we thank you for attending the 2015 Stampede. The event is expected to draw over 225,000 guests from around the world. Regardless of how many people attend, it is a community event and as such it is our goal to provide all guests with a remarkable, exciting and safe experience while visiting the Greeley Stampede.
We have hundreds of activities happening around the park during the 11-day festival, below are a few highlights we recommend: •
• • •
• •
Take time to shop at one of the 75 plus commercial vendor booths located on Main Street, under the Stampede Arena grandstands, and a new featured area inside the Stampede Events Center. The Events Center has lots to offer, it is air-cooled, houses the Western Art Show, has a beverage bar and lounge area, the Spur Club hospitality area, plenty of restrooms, and many vendor booths, including a Roper & Stetson Apparel store which will provide free daily specials. Enjoy the Anadarko Kids Korral attractions, which include a Wild West comedy show, reptile adventure exhibit, a petting zoo, balloon maker and a face painter. These free attractions are located right next to the UC Health Sheep Stampede in the Pavilion, where little cowboys and cowgirls can try an 8-second sheep ride. Feed your hunger cravings at one of the many food court vendors while listening to great music on the Big Country Free Stage presented by Banner Health. The Stampede Saloon will serve up cold Bud Light, Jack Daniel’s & Pepsi beverages while live music plays throughout the evening. The carnival has more than 100 rides providing thrills and chills for a hot summer night. Between rides, enjoy some of the food and games. Don’t miss the five brand new featured rides including, Cobra Roller Coaster, Alien Abduction and Cliff Hanger. Head over to one of the ticket windows to purchase individual ride tickets, one-day unlimited ride wristbands for $30, or an 11-day season wristband for only $100. The Stampede Arena will showcase world-class rodeo action, Colorado’s largest demolition derby, and top name country music and classic rock concerts. The Stampede Concert Package allows you to see all five concerts for as little as $75. Make sure to stake out your spot early along the Independence Day Parade route. Leading this spectacular parade will be over 75 amazing longhorns and our two favorite crazy and wacky mascots, Bucky & Bertha. Make sure to an keep on eye in the sky for a special July 4th tribute.

2015 Stampede Grand Marshals
Bob and Ann GHENT
When Ann Ghent learned she and her husband, Bob Ghent, were going to be the grand marshals for the 93rd annual Greeley Stampede, she almost couldn’t believe it. “The first reaction was kind of like shock — really. And like, wow, really?” Ann said Thursday in a telephone interview. She said she knows so many community leaders in Greeley who would have been great choices. Her husband was similarly surprised and humbled by the honor. Justin Watada, general manager of the Greeley Stampede, said the Ghents stood out because of their past involvement with the Stampede and their involvement in the Greeley community. Bob owns Ghent Chevrolet and Cadillac and dedicates time to several prominent Greeley groups, including the Greeley Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Weld County and the Greeley Rotary Club. He served on the NCMC Foundation’s Monfort Children’s Clinic, which provides medical care to low-income families. He supported the Advancement for Individual Determination program, which helps train and prepare students for employment opportunities. The Ghents also give back to the community through their shared interest in cancer research and patient care. They co-chaired the 2010 American Cancer Society’s Cattle Barons Ball, which raised

money for the cause. Like her husband, Ann was raised in Greeley and is actively involved in the community. She was a board member for Child Advocacy Resource and Education for 13 years and worked as a substitute teacher for Greeley-Evans School District 6. Ann also is a member of American Quarter Horse Association and the Northern Colorado Riding Club, which explains her favorite event at the Stampede. “I find the bronco riding fascinating,” she said. “That’s kind of crazy if you ask me, to get on a horse that’s trying to buck you off.” Ann and Bob each said another event they are looking forward to is the extreme bulls. “I enjoy it, but it’s like being on the edge of your seat the entire time,” Ann said. Aside from the events, they each said they know serving as grand marshals is a big responsibility. The grand marshals serve as ambassadors to help promote the festival, as well as enjoy the events as honored guests, Watada said. The couple is looking forward to the Stampede, its variety of events and interacting with the Greeley community. “I look forward to saying hello to a lot of folks there,” Bob said. “I’m just looking forward to the good times.” Emma Pettit • epettit@greeleytribune.com

Whitesnake, the legendary rock’n’roll band founded and formed by Deep Purple singer David Coverdale, are proud to announce their 2015 “The Purple Tour” which will feature their biggest hits & songs from the new tribute album. Having spent 2013 touring the world on the second leg of the “Forevermore World Tour,” 2014 was spent in the studio recording the 12th studio opus. Once again the hardcore fans are about to be surprised by the Snake as they hit the road in 2015. After leaving Deep Purple in 1976 Coverdale formed the original Whitesnake in 1978, and began a journey that has taken him from the early heavy blues rock of the late ‘70s with albums like “Trouble,”“Lovehunter,”“Ready And Willing,” and “Come An’ Get It” through to the explosive hard rock of the revamped the Whitesnake sound with the multiplatinum “Slide It In” & 1987’s self-titled mega-millionselling smash-hit album “Whitesnake.” About Night Ranger It all started when five hard-rockin’ kids from the San Francisco Bay area joined forces in the early 80’s to form Night Ranger. Like no other rock band, Night Ranger both epitomized and transcended the sound and style of that decade. In 1983, Night Ranger earned widespread acclaim with their multi-platinum album Midnight Madness, which included their smash hits “Sister Christian,”“When You Close Your Eyes,” and the anthemic “(You Can Still) Rock In America.” The band released their 10th studio album, “High Road,” this summer via label home Frontiers Records. Of the new album, Front man/bassist/songwriter Jack Blades commented, “It’s a great time to take a trip down the High Road! Our new record features classic Night Ranger feel-good, high-energy kick-ass rock n’ roll.” Drummer/singer Kelly Keagy added, “We’re so proud of this new record and excited to get back on the road to bring the new music to our fans.” The band continues their non-stop touring schedule, playing to sold-out crowds around the world, with stops in the US, including Hawaii, Europe, and Japan.

Kenny Rogers GRAMMY Award-winning country superstar and music icon, Kenny Rogers has enjoyed great success during his storied career of almost seven decades. Rogers has played to millions of fans around the world, performing songs from his catalog of 24 Number One hits including “The Gambler,”“Lucille,” “Coward of the County,”“Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town,”“Reuben James,”“Lady,”“Islands in the Stream,”“She Believes In Me,”“We’ve Got Tonight,”“Daytime Friends,”“Sweet Music Man,”“Through The Years,”“You Decorated My Life,”“Buy Me A Rose,” and “I Can’t Unlove You”. Houston-born Rogers formed his first band while in high school in 1956. Rogers’ breakthrough, Grammy-winning performance of “Lucille” as a solo artist in 1977 propelled him to superstardom. In the late ’80s and ’90s, Rogers established himself as a well-respected photographer, publishing several books, and was even invited to the White House. He authored several short stories, and appeared off-Broadway in his Christmas musical, The Toy Shoppe, which he subsequently toured. In 1999, Rogers returned to the charts on his own record label with the hit and Number One video, “The Greatest,” and when the follow-up, “Buy Me a Rose,” hit Number One in 2000, Rogers, at age 61, became the oldest artist in chart history to have a Number One solo record on the country chart, proving his talent was just as vibrant and meaningful as it was when he first started out. “I really, really love what I’m doing,” Rogers says. “People survive longer if they love what they’re doing—because you just don’t quit.”
Sunday, June 28th, 8:00PM Kenny Rogers with special guest Ronnie Milsap Stampede Arena
About Ronnie Milsap Ronnie Milsap ranks as the pre-eminent country soul singer of his generation. He also represents much more than any two-word definition can convey: a humble, overtly friendly fellow with a talent as vast and multi-dimensional as the American South. Milsap provided country music with one of its most important voices, as the genre was moving beyond its rural roots into the mainstream of modern entertainment. Country music couldn’t have found a man more suited to lead the charge. Steeped in the mountain music of the North Carolina hills and schooled in classical piano, Milsap early in life found inspiration in a wide variety of music. Even as he mastered Beethoven and Mozart, his heart belonged to hardcore country and rhythm-and-blues -- music he heard beamed from powerful radio stations located in Nashville. Those earthy sounds about life and love provided a young, impoverished blind boy with a connection to a world beyond the harsh reality of his daily existence.

Joe Nichols Joe Nichols took the roundabout way to country success, scoring his first major hit six years after landing his initial record deal. A native of Rogers, Arkansas, Nichols grew up watching his father play bass in a local country band. He himself played in a rock band during his teenage years but soon came back to country, and after high school took a night job as a DJ while supporting himself as a mechanic by day. He performed regularly and worked on his songwriting. He landed a record deal with Intersound and released his self-titled debut in 1996. In 2000, he struck up a songwriting partnership with session guitarist Brent Rowan, and two years later he signed with Universal. His label debut, Man with a Memory, was released in 2002, and its lead single, the ballad “The Impossible,” went to number three on the country charts, also crossing over to the pop Top 30. Another single from Man with a Memory, “Brokenheartsville,” became his first number one country hit in early 2003, and it helped send the album into the country Top Ten. The accolades were suddenly flying fast and furious. The Academy of Country Music named Nichols its Top New Male Vocalist, he garnered three Grammy nominations, and Billboard declared “The Impossible” the tenth most-played song in 2003. Nichols and his band toured with Alan Jackson through August of that year, and saw the single “She Only Smokes When She Drinks” enjoy similar success at country radio. His second disc for Universal South, Revelation, and a holiday album, Traditional Christmas, were released in 2004, followed by the Top Ten hit III in 2005. His next record, Real Things, hit the shelves in 2007 and focused primarily on tender country ballads with a smattering of uptempo jams. Old Things New followed two years later in 2009. Old Things New was another solid hit for Nichols thanks to the singles “Believers” and “Gimmie That Girl,” and Nichols followed it up in 2011 with It’s All Good. It’s All Good performed respectably — it debuted at 19 on the Billboard country charts — but it didn’t generate a big hit single. After its release, Nichols parted ways with Universal and signed with Red Bow in October 2012. Then in 2013, he returned with the sunny, pop-oriented Crickets, and 2014 Hard To Be Cool, was released in September 2014.

GREAT TASTE
This is truly man against beast, with modern day gladiators risking everything in a ninety second match. These rodeo athletes are judged on how well they maneuver around a ferocious bull. Death defying feats, such as jumping over a bull are attempted so competitors can gain points as they get within inches of the bull’s head. American Bullfighting a high stakes game of “Tag Your It”, is one of the most dangerous and exciting sports on dirt. It consists of heats of three bullfighters, the winner from each heat will advance to the Championship round where the most daring is crowned champion among the brave.
Demolition Derby Presented by Grease Monkey As part of the community since 1958, JBS USA has a rich heritage in Northern Colorado and are invested in Greeley. From our beef and lamb facilities to our transportation division and our headquarters, Greeley is home. More than being the area where we produce high quality products, it’s where we thrive. We live here. We work here. We grow here.
In 2014 Motorhomes were added to the already spectacular show, and what a show it was! There was destruction at its finest, with debris scattered from one end of the arena to the other. Crowds roared with excitement and celebration as the surviving machines began to mutilate their competition. The lone survivor was a 40 foot camper that shed many body parts before claiming victory. The 2015 spectacle will be no less exciting as the Motorhomes return again this year with an even bigger payout and a new heat, with a vehicle commonly considered most mens nightmare, “The Minivan”. Experience this crushing, destructive and demolishing event, rated Colorado’s largest Demolition Derby! All these brave drivers will compete for $22,000 in cash prizes.

Miss Rodeo Colorado serves as the official spokesmen of the PRCA Rodeo organization. This year the Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant officials are celebrating 60 years of continued elegance and grace on horseback. The first Miss Rodeo Colorado was appointed in January 1955 and through the years has charmed many rodeo fans with her knowledge, beauty and grace across Colorado and other states honoring our Western Heritage and the sport of rodeo. The pageant was held from 1956 to 1989 with conjunction with the Colorado State Fair and from 1990 to current the Greeley Stampede is proud to be called the official “Home Rodeo” of the Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant. It is with honor and pride that the following list of ladies have worn the beloved turquoise crown on their hats. Congratulations to the former, current and future title holders.

2015
2015 Miss Rodeo Colorado
Marie Louise Kidd Miss Rodeo Colorado 2015, Marie Louise Kidd of Avondale, Colorado, is the 22 year old daughter of Rick and Jill Kidd. Marie’s guiding principles are integrity, leadership, work ethic and patriotism. Marie received a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Colorado State University-Pueblo. She plans to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, specializing in sports and horses. Marie is a fourth generation Colorado cowgirl following in the footsteps of her great-grandmother with roots in Crowley County dating back to 1911. Marie and her family raise registered Corrientes cattle, the official breed of steers in the PRCA. She has participated in the 4-H horse project for 11
years, qualifying for the Colorado State Fair 6 times. She won Grand Champion Ranch Horse her final year as a 4-H participant. Marie was also a member in the American Quarter Horse Youth Association and is a 3-time qualifier for AQHYA Youth World Show. Marie was honored to serve as the 2009 Pueblo County Fair Queen and the 2012 Arkansas Valley Fair Queen. In her spare time she enjoys reining and working cow horse disciplines and performing in musicals. Marie is excited to serve as Miss Rodeo Colorado because rodeo is a genuinely American creation with traditional values that align with her own. She is excited to work to help grow rodeo and the western lifestyle into the future.

Hadley Barrett
Hadley Barrett: This ranch-raised Nebraskan started his career as a contestant but found his place in rodeo history behind the microphone. A PRCA member since 1965, Hadley Barrett has announced all of the big rodeos and a great number of the smaller ones across the country. He has been the voice of the Sidney (Iowa) Championship Rodeo since 1983; worked the Buffalo Bill Rodeo for more than 30 years; the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede for more than 20 years; and worked for more than a decade at Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days. Barrett was named PRCA Announcer of the Year in 1983, 1985, 1989 and 2002. He has worked four National Finals Rodeos (1968, 1976, 1979 and 1983) and the 1967 National Finals Steer Roping, as well as called the Canadian Finals action seven times. He has worked as an NFR television announcer since 1980. Barrett’s legacy is his willingness to share his talent and experience with others. He is known for taking rookie announcers under his wing and sharing hard-earned information. Will Rasmussen: A smooth, easy-listening voice, a vast knowledge of rodeo and a style that is both entertaining and informative are the mix of elements that make Will Rasmussen one of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s most popular rodeo announcers. With more than two decades of experience in the industry, he is a veteran rodeo announcer who, since advancing to the PRCA ranks in 1994, has shared his style of announcing with rodeo fans in Montana and across the United States.
Will Rasmussen
Stock Contractor Beutler and Son Rodeo Co: Bennie Beutler was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo. in July of 2010.
Bennie Beutler
Rhett Beutler
The famed stock contractor from Elk City, Okla., is the third generation of Beutlers to be in the stock contracting business. Beutler and his son Rhett make up the Beutler and Son Rodeo Co., which provides bucking horses and bulls for rodeos across the nation. The company has had animals selected to buck at pro rodeo’s world championship, the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, for nearly every year of its six decades of existence.
Sound
Jill’s Sound: Jill Franzen is a professional sound and music technician who has been doing rodeo sound and music for thirteen years. In those years, she’s provided sound for various rodeos around the country. Her personality coupled with her perfectionism makes her a big hit at any rodeo. Jill is very easy to work with and is successful at making any rodeo a sensation!

Clown/Barrelman & Specialty Act Rockin’ Robbie Hodges: Rockin’ Robbie Hodges has established himself as one of the hottest barrelman and funny guy personalities in the world of Professional Rodeo. His quick wit and off the cuff banter, as well as carefully thought out acts, keep the crowd entertained and looking at him for the entire performance. Robbie always promotes positive, non-violent, clean family humor, and has an uncanny knack for instantly bonding with audiences of all ages. With his unusual skills as a barrelman he has been acclaimed by bull fighters, rodeo announcers, stock contractors, and cowboys alike, as being the most exciting barrelman in rodeo today.
Bullfighter/Cowboy Protection Aaron Ferguson: Ferguson was born and raised in High River, Alberta, Canada. At the age of fifteen he decided to test his hand as a rodeo bullfighter, working numerous high school and amateur rodeos. In 2009, while attending college in Oklahoma, Ferguson was approved for his Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association bullfighter card. Since gaining professional status, the twenty-six year old has quickly become one of the most recognizable figures in the bullfighting business. In 2013, Ferguson became just the second Canadian ever to be voted to fight bulls at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, NV. In 2014 he was nominated for the PRCA Bullfighter of the Year Award. Ferguson has been selected to protect cowboys at the PRCA Ram Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo three times and the PRCA Ram Wilderness Circuit Finals twice. He has also been selected three times for the College National Finals Rodeo and Denver’s Rodeo AllStar. Wacey Munsell: It seems almost natural that Wacey Munsell became a bullfighter, as he is a third generation bullfighter following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, and uncle. Munsell honed his bullfighting skills almost from the time he started walking, to become a world champion multiple times over. In 2004, he was the youngest ever to be allowed on the TwoBulls Protection Tour and the World Championship Rodeo Bullfighting tour, finishing as the world champion, earning the gold buckle just eight days after his 18th birthday. Munsell is a quality cowboy protector and one that bull riders trust to keep them safe, but he is also a World Champion freestyle bullfighter. Don’t take your eyes off of him after a bull rider leaves the arena, because this is when his fun begins, thrilling crowds and stopping hearts.

Wrangler of the year
TOP HAND AWARD Jerod Lichtenberg
Jerod who lives in Eaton with his wife Nicole recently celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary. They have three children, and two granddaughters. He is proud to work at his family owned electrical business, B & M Electric. Jerod feels privileged to be to have been a Wrangler for 19 years. He has worked in many areas of the organization over the years, but spend the majority of his time on grounds and rodeo crews. On the grounds crew, he spent many hours and late nights in the water truck and tractors getting the arena ready for each Stampede events. Currently in his third year on the rodeo crew he is the Ramrod on the rough stock end. He keeps busy by running the Out Gate and making sure the show moves smoothly behind the chutes. He is honored to have his family: wife Nichole, a 5 year Wrangler, and current Wrangler Vice President; daughter Tia, a second year Wrangler; his son Aaron, who will be completing his final year as Wrangler in Training (but has been by his side for many years); And his Mother-in-Law Rachel, who is also a second year Wrangler. He has made many friends as a Wrangler and considers them all to be family. They are a great group of people to spend hundreds of hours with during the Stampede. Thank You.

Livestock Welfare Rules The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) is deeply committed to the proper care and treatment of the livestock used in rodeo. The Livestock Welfare Program is extensive and covers many aspects including livestock care standards, education, research, outreach and government relations. Goals of the PRCA Livestock Welfare Program: »» Ensure the proper care and handling of livestock at PRCA sanctioned rodeos. »» Network with other rodeo and animal use groups to encourage similar programs. »» Educate the PRCA membership regarding animal welfare/animal rights. »» Address legislative proposals that would affect rodeo. »» Provide factual information to the general public, media and elected officials regarding rodeo livestock. As an association, the PRCA has: »» Established rules and regulations governing livestock welfare, »» Created an animal welfare committee to assist in the association’s efforts to ensure proper care of livestock, »» Conducts regular livestock welfare surveys to identify successful practices and areas for improvement, »» Educates its membership regarding best practices for livestock handling, »» Monitors compliance with its animal welfare rules and regulations, »» Educates the public and elected officials about the care provided to rodeo livestock, »» Networks with other organizations about best livestock practices and policies, »» Employs a director of livestock welfare to coordinate all efforts relating to care and handling of livestock at PRCA-sanctioned events, and »» Employs a livestock welfare superintendent to proactively work with rodeo committees, stock contractors, contestants and veterinarians to ensure all livestock at PRCA rodeo are being handled properly. »» Recognizes veterinarian’s contribution to the welfare of rodeo livestock with a new award program titled “PRCA Veterinarian of the Year” to be awarded at the National Finals Rodeo each year.

Rodeo 101 Professional rodeo action consists of two types of competitions, roughstock events and timed events. In the roughstock events, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding, a contestant’s score is equally dependent upon his performance and the animal’s performance. A qualified score and scoring »» The cowboy, while using only one hand, must stay on a bucking horse or bull for eight seconds. »» If the rider touches the animal, himself or any of his equipment with his free hand, he is disqualified. »» Two judges each score a cowboy’s qualified ride by awarding 0 to 25 points for the rider’s performance and 0 to 25 points for the animal’s effort. »» The judges’ scores are then combined to determine the contestant’s score. A perfect score is 100 points.
Ø In saddle bronc and bareback riding
◊ A cowboy must “mark out” his horse; that is, he must exit the chute with his spurs set above the horse’s shoulders and hold them there until the horse’s front feet hit the ground after the initial jump out of the chute. Failing to do so results in disqualification.
At the other end of the arena, timed events steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing and steer roping; »» Cowboys and cowgirls compete against the clock, as well as against each other. »» A contestant’s goal is to post the fastest time in his or her event.
Ø In steer wrestling and the roping events
◊ Calves and steers are allowed a head start. The competitor, on horseback, starts in a three-sided fenced area called a box. The fourth side opens into the arena. ◊ A rope barrier is stretched across that opening and is tied to the calf or steer with a breakaway loop. ◊ Once the calf or steer reaches the head-start point - predetermined by the size of the arena - the barrier is automatically released. If a cowboy breaks that barrier, a 10-second penalty is added.
Ø In Barrel Racing
◊ The cowgirl’s time begins as she rides her horse across the starting line in the arena. ◊ She makes a run around three upright barrels, which are in a cloverleaf pattern, and back to the starting line where the clock stops. § Tipping a barrel is permitted, but if it is knocked to the ground, a five-second penalty is added to her time.
