The Emerald Isle Tour travels through Greene County’s Irish-settled, scenic countryside. Follow Route 145 to East Durham, home of the East Durham Irish Festival, Irish Arts Week, Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Festival and Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival. This route includes Cunningham Road, one of the most scenic roads in the Great Northern Catskills.

THE CAT’S TAIL RIDE

Durham Valley Scenic Byway
Stunning vistas and smooth roads.
This ride through the Durham Valley Scenic Byway was created by the founders of the Hudson Valley Biker Network. The Cat’s Tail Ride is an out-and-back ride leaving from Blackthorne Resort in East Durham. Curving like the end of a cat’s tail, the ride travels along routes 10 and 20, connecting Cornwallville and Cunningham roads.

GRAND TOUR OF THE CATSKILLS

You’ll feel as if you are carving through the mountains.
A more adventurous ride, the Grand Tour of the Catskills winds through backcountry mountains and wide-open, sweeping valleys in the heart of the Catskill Park. Ride the twisties at elevations around 3,500 feet as you drive alongside scenic streams and brooks. Along the route you can expect to see high peaks, rolling farmland and quaint communities.
To stop and view Kaaterskill Falls, pull off Route 23A onto Route 18 (North Lake Road) then turn right onto Laurel House Road. It’s an easy ¼ mile hike to the Viewing Platform overlooking the falls and the Kaaterskill Clove.

MOUNTAIN CLOVE RUN

One of the most breathtaking rides through the Catskills.
As you drive into the mountains, some of the highest peaks in the Great Northern Catskills rise before you. The round-trip loop provides incredible views of the region’s landscape and a drive-by glimpse of Kaaterskill Falls.
To stop and view Kaaterskill Falls, pull off Route 23A onto Route 18 (North Lake Road) then turn right onto Laurel House Road. It’s an easy ¼ mile hike to the Viewing Platform overlooking the falls and the Kaaterskill Clove.
Pull over at the Five State Lookout on Route 23 where, on a clear day, you can see the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Green Mountains of Vermont, the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts, the Helderberg Mountains of New York and the Connecticut Valley.
