Welcome The spread of COVID-19 led to a tough year in 2020 for the people in our community. The Board of Directors for the Greene County Fair faced a difficult decision in cancelling the annual event last year. While that decision was heart-shattering for the myriad of volunteers for this event, we felt that it was in the best interest of the community at that time.

Here we are one year later, and what a difference a year makes. We are excited to now welcome you to the 71st edition of this vital community event – The Greene County Fair is back! Our goal remains the same - to provide a family-friendly venue that focuses on the promotion of agriculture, entertainment, youth development, and education. I am privileged to work alongside nineteen other board members and countless other volunteers whose hard work, dedication, and passion for the Fair are essential to the ongoing success of this annual event. It is the single largest social event in Greene County each year, and no matter your interests, we believe the Fair will offer something for you to enjoy.

There has been a fair in some form in Greene County since 1870 when the Farmers and Mechanics Association held its first exposition. The present Greene County Fair Association was incorporated in 1949. The Greene County Fair is recognized statewide as one of the best fairs of its size. In 2015, the Fair was recognized as the AAA Division Champion Fair in the state of Tennessee by the Tennessee Association of Fairs. In 2005, we were honored to receive the Tennessee Association of Fairs highest award, the “Champion of Champions” fair trophy, and in 2006, the Fair received the “Champion of Champions Premier Fair” award. Without the tremendous support from our community, these accolades would be impossible to achieve. The Board of Directors would like to express our thanks to all the volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, and local businesses who have helped make Greene County Fair possible. Most of all, we would like to thank each of you for attending. All of our efforts are aimed at your enjoyment. We look forward to seeing you there!

EXHIBITOR RULES & REGULATIONS Prior to entering exhibits, each exhibitor will be issued a number which is to be used to enter all items.

All 4-H and FFA exhibits are limited to Greene County residents.

Exhibits and awards may be picked up on Sunday from 1:00 - 5:00 or Monday 10:00 - 5:00 following the close of the fair on Sunday. No exhibit may be removed without presenting the proper claim ticket.

It is the policy of the Greene County Fair Association that any assisted-living organization that wishes to bring mentally or physically challenged people to the fair may purchase 1-day passes in advance for ½ price per person.

Unless they are issued a daily or weekly pass by the Board of Directors, all persons will be required to purchase a ticket each time they enter the grounds.

Parking is free. Only those vehicles issued a permit by the Board of Directors will be allowed to park inside the gates. Violators will be towed at the owner’s expense.

It is the policy of the Greene County Fair, Inc. that no animal shall be permitted on the grounds, other than those involved in events sanctioned by the Fair, such as a pet show, wildlife exhibits, petting barn, or livestock show or exhibit. Animals involved in such events shall be restrained in a manner considered proper by the Board of Directors of the Fair. The only exceptions to this policy are those animals which are used by the handicapped, for example, seeing eye dogs.

The Greene County Fair, Inc. reserves to its Board of Directors the final and absolute right to interpret all rules and regulations; and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions, and differences in regard thereto, or otherwise arising out of, connected with, or incidental to the Fair.

ALL PREMIUM CHECKS ARE VOID AFTER SIXTY (60) DAYS. Exhibiting does not entitle the exhibitor to free admission to the grounds.

No entries will be accepted later than the dates listed in this catalog.

Unless otherwise stated, an exhibitor may enter only one item per lot. A single item cannot be entered into multiple lots. The exhibitor is responsible for determining the lot in which their item is entered.

Each department superintendent has the right to add lots when necessary, so that non-catalog exhibits can be entered.

Exhibitors must be the bona fide owners of the entry exhibited. All crops exhibited must be produced during the current fair year.

Exhibitors must use only the space assigned by the superintendent of the department.

Protests will be decided by the Executive Committee. Only those protests made in writing on a form provided by the Fair and accompanied by a $25.00 deposit will be considered. This deposit may be forfeited

to the Fair in the event the protest fails.

The Fair will not be responsible for any damage to exhibits, but will take reasonable precautions to guard against loss or damage.

The President of the Fair shall have supervision and control of all exhibits; and reserves the right to prescribe the dimensions and positions of all signs, to control the distribution of all advertising, and generally to direct the fair as to appearance. All instructions shall come from the President or through his/her authorized representatives.

No commercial exhibit or concession shall be removed from the grounds prior to the close of the fair.

In lots where exhibits are made by only one exhibitor, the Fair will pay only second premium money, and that only if the entry is worthy.

The right is reserved to withhold the premiums awarded in any case where the Fair deems that the regulations have not been complied with; or that fraud or deception has been attempted; or where an exhibit is not worthy. The decision of the Board or its representatives shall be final and binding on all parties.

Judges will be instructed not to award premiums to any exhibit because of its presence. It must be worthy. It is not the policy of the Fair to encourage indifferent production. No premium will be awarded to any exhibit that does not possess high intrinsic merit.

The single judge system is the policy of the

Fair. Judges will be selected with the utmost care. The Fair reserves the right to use the three judge system should circumstances arise where it would prove of mutual benefit to the Fair and the exhibitors. The Fair reserves the right to substitute judges in place of those named.

In cases of doubt or difficulty, judges will consult with the chairperson of the department.

Any exhibitor attempting or in any way interfering with the judges in their adjudications will be promptly excluded from competition and any premiums awarded withheld.

The decision of the judges will be final.

Other than livestock, exhibits which have previously won in this fair are not eligible for prizes.

Commercial Exhibitors Commercial exhibits are to be completed by 10:00 p.m. on the Sunday prior to the opening of the fair on Monday. No vehicles are allowed on the fairgrounds after gates open at 4pm each day. All deliveries must be made before 4pm. Exhibitors are not allowed to remove their exhibits during the fair. Exhibits may be taken down on Monday from 9am to 7pm or Tuesday from 9am to 5pm after the fair has concluded.

Kaitlyn Turner 2019-2020 Fairest of the Fair

The Board of Directors of the Greene County Fair Association, Inc. reserves the right to change these rules as the situation merits.

This contest is sponsored by the Greene County Fair and is held as a preliminary to the Tennessee Fairest of the Fair contest, which is sponsored by the Tennessee Association of Fairs.

The entry fee is $50.00. Only the first (15) fifteen qualified applicants to submit entries will be accepted.

Each contestant must attend all practice sessions. Missing a practice session could disqualify the contestant. All contestants and their chaperons are invited to a tea on Sunday, July 25 at 2:00 p.m. at a location to be announced.

Each contestant must be a resident of Greene County and sponsored by a civic club, community club, a school, or parents. To qualify as a resident of Greene County, an applicant/contestant must be domiciled in Greene County (legal residence as distinguished from temporary place of residence) for a minimum of 12 continuous months as of the date the applicant/contestant files their entry to participate in the Greene County Fairest of the Fair Contest.

Each contestant must have reached her 16th birthday before the local pageant date, but not her 21st birthday, on December 31, 2021.

A contestant cannot qualify if she is or has been married, or has children.

Contestants will be judged on beauty (50%) on poise and personality (25%) and Interview (25%).

The winner will receive a $1000 College Scholarship, a $500 clothing allowance for the state competition and will be sponsored by the Greene County Fair at the State Pageant in Nashville in January.

This trip is worth approximately $1,500.00. The Fair will provide one hotel room.

The winner of that contest will receive the title of Tennessee’s Fairest of the Fair and will receive such prizes as approved by the Association.

Contestants will be presented in evening gowns. Costumes must be formal and must be floor length. Contestants will not be allowed to wear or carry flowers during the judging. Each contestant will receive two passes for the pageant.

The winner will be required to sign a contract outlining her responsibilities and those of the Fair. She will be required to be available to attend the fair and any scheduled activities as required by the Directors during fair week, and throughout the year as the reigning Fairest of the Fair.

Winners in each division will be the guest of the Greene County Fair in 2022.

Classes 8-14 will be held on Thursday, July 29th at 6:00 p.m.

Classes 15-20 will be held on Saturday, July 31st at 5:00 p.m.

•Everyone must pre-register for the Baby Show. Pre-registration may be done by mailing in a registration form before WEDNESDAY, July 21st. Otherwise, contestants may be pre-registered on SUNDAY, July 25th at the Andrew Johnson Bank Pavilion from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

No exceptions will be allowed.

• Everyone needs to bring proof the day of the baby show: (a) That they live in Greene County (Driver’s License, etc.) and (b) Birth Certificate of Contestant. (These will only be asked for if anyone questions the age and says they should be in another class).

• The Greene County Fair is not responsible for entry forms that may be lost in the mail.

It is your responsibility to check with the directors of the Baby Show to verify that your entry form was received and accepted.

• There will be no waiting on contestants. If the contestant is not there for the line-up the show will go on. (NO REFUNDS will be given.)

• Entry Fee for Baby Show will be $15.00 per Contestant.

• There will be five (5) places in each division (Winner and four runner- ups). Also, an Award for the Friendliest Baby in each Class will be presented.

• Contestants will wear Casual Clothing of their Choice – Absolutely NO Pageant Wear Will Be Allowed! Failure to follow these guidelines will result in disqualification.

• Contestant is only judged on CUTENESS (Not Clothing).

• Friendliest Baby will be judged on the Baby Smiling/Laughing the most while in LineUp in front of the judges on stage.

• There will only be 25 contestants per division.

• All winners (including the Friendliest Baby in each class) will be asked to stay for group pictures.

• ALL ENTRIES for the Baby Show in Classes 1-7 need to be ready for Line-Up at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27th beside the GREENEVILLE FEDERAL EXPO Stage.

• ALL ENTRIES for Classes 8-14 need to be ready for Line-Up at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 29th. All entries for classes 15-20 need to be ready for line-up at 4:45 pm on Saturday, July 31st.

PARTICIPATION AWARD Each entry into Class 1 (Cut and Dried Floral Design) and Class 2 (Plant Material) will receive 5 points.

Each entry into Class 3-14 (Roses) and Class 16 (Cut Annuals and Perennials) will receive 2 points.

Each 1st Place will receive 3 points.

Each 2nd Place will receive 2 points.

Each 3rd Place will receive 1 point.

Each “Best of Class” will receive 10 points.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS Bedding for livestock will not be provided.

NO Dogs Allowed in Barn except for Service Dogs Entry Fees Due at Check-In (Check or Cash Only) The Greene County Fair management reserves to its Board the final and absolute right to interpret these rules and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all maters, questions and differences in regard thereto, or otherwise arising out of, connected with, or incidental to the Fair.

ALL PREMIUM CHECKS MUST BE CASHED WITHIN SIXTY (60) DAYS OF ISSUE All livestock exhibitors will be required to purchase an exhibitor ticket for $8.00 and pay an entry fee, if applicable, for each animal entered. Feed, care and bedding of animals must be provided by exhibitors.

No animals can be entered or exhibited as purebred unless same has been recorded in the recognized books of record for their respective breeds, and exhibitors must produce certificates of registry at the request of the superintendent in charge any time during the Fair.

Animals shown by juniors cannot be shown again as being owned by adults, nor can animals owned by adults be shown by juniors.

For personal and fire safety, aisle ways MUST be kept clear. No grooming chutes, pedestal fans, etc. in aisle ways. All electrical equipment must be in reliable working condition with all safety shields in their appropriate place.

Protests will be considered by the Executive Committee providing the protest is in writing and accompanied by a cash deposit of $25.00, which deposit will be forfeited to the Fair in the event the party fails to sustain his protest. Show Manager must be informed of protest within one (1) hour after show in question. Protest forms are available from the superintendent.

Feed must be furnished by the exhibitor and animals must be kept in place assigned.

Livestock for display only must be haltered and adhere to all Open & Junior Show rules, fees, deadlines, health requirements and provided care consistent with other livestock entries.

All animals exhibited must meet requirements of the fair.

JUNIOR SHOW RULES & REGULATIONS The Greene County Fair Livestock Committee has made the decision to allow any person under 21 years of age to exhibit their animal unassisted in the Junior Show.

Only animals officially recorded in the name of the exhibitor before July 1st of the current year may be shown and the registration certificate of each animal shall be submitted to the Superintendent of this show. All animals must be registered with the exception of commercial market lambs, heifers and steers. Application for registration or transfer will not be accepted.

No joint ownership will be accepted for Junior entries.

Juniors must purchase an exhibitor ticket.

No entry fee will be charged in the junior department and the stall space will be provided free. Juniors not participating in Open Show may leave after 10:00 p.m.

If an animal is to be entered in the open show, the regular stall rent will be charged, and the animal will be released as indicated under each open show class.

CARE OF EXHIBITS The Fair will not be responsible for any injury or damage to livestock, crop or other exhibit but will take reasonable precautions to guard against loss or damage. Exhibitors must provide feed, care and bedding for livestock.

The President of the Fair shall have supervision and control of all exhibits and exhibitions during the Fair, whether in the buildings, arena, or grounds, and reserves the right to prescribe the dimensions and regulate the positions of all signs, to control the distribution of advertising matter and generally to direct the arrangements of articles on exhibition so far as appearance.

All instructions shall come from him or through authorized officials.

SHOW RING The superintendents of the livestock departments will exclude entries from all competition should there be embarrassing or unnecessary delay on the part of exhibitors in bringing animals into the show ring.

JUDGES AND AWARDS There must be at least two (2) exhibits in each class in order to obtain first place premiums in Open Shows.

In classes where exhibits are made by only one exhibitor, the Fair will pay only second premium money, and that only where the entry is worthy.

The right is reserved to withhold the prized awarded in every case in which it shall appear to the Fair that the regulations have not been complied with, or that fraud or deception has been attempted, or where the article or animal is not worthy, and decision shall be final and binding on all parties.

Judges are especially instructed not to award premiums to any animal or article because of its presence. It must be individually worthy. It is not the policy of the Fair to encourage indifferent production, and no premium shall be awarded to any animal or article that does not possess high intrinsic merit.

Judges will apply to the executive officer in charge of the department in which they are to act in all cases of doubt or difficulty.

Regard will be had to symmetry, size, form, action, constitution, vigor, and general characteristics of the various breeds with reasonable allowance for age; due regard will also be paid to carriage, style, and general refinement that donates high breeding, points which, while not weighing in the scale points, add value to animals when being sold for breeding purposes. In groups encouragement will be given to uniformity of breed type.

The Fair reserves the right to discriminate against both excessive obesity, which cannot be a profitable condition for breeding animals, and excessive leanness, in which condition animals are unfit for exhibition.

All animals must be shown and paraded as directed by the superintendent or judge, and any exhibitor refusing to comply with instructions or superintendent or judge or refusing to give any information required, may be ordered from the ring, and stock excluded from competition.

If an exhibitor fails to exhibit animals at request of superintendent of department he forfeits his prize money.

Any animal deemed unrully or dangerous by the livestock superintendent may be removed from the show ring!

The ages of all animals must be given and satisfactorily verified if required. The ages of cattle will be computed as specified in special rules printed in departments.

Any exhibitor attempting or in any way interfering with the judges during their adjudications will be promptly excluded from competition, and the premiums awarded will be withheld.

The decision of the awarding judges shall be final.

Judges in the several departments shall give the reasons, if desired for their decisions, embracing the value and desirable qualities of the animals or articles to which the premiums are awarded.

Department superintendents will hand in the list of awards to the Secretary as soon as possible, and make their extended reports afterwards. They are requested to report fully upon all objects of merit and make such recommendations as circumstances may suggest, but not award extra prizes.

All animals are to be in place by 10:00am. on the day of the show. Facilities will be available by 8:00 a.m. No bedding will be furnished by the Fair. All market entries must be weighed by 12:00 p.m. The show will begin at 1:00 p.m. Animals will be released at 7:00 p.m. Participants are required to purchase exhibitor tickets for themselves and for any person assisting them at the show. Entry Fee $1.00 per head.

In addition to the health requirements by the State of Tennessee, the following health requirements will apply to the Goat and Sheep shows. All animals are subject to being inspected after arrival at the show facilities and any with clinical signs of contagious disease will be sent home immediately. Certificate(s) of Veterinary Inspection are to accompany the animal(s) to the respective shows. Veterinarians will examine for signs of infectious deseases (i.e. sourmouth, pinkeye, ringworm, abscesses, suspected caseous lymphandentitis. With reference to caseous lymphadenitits: enlargements of the lymph nodes, whether draining or not, will not be admitted.) The veterinarian has the final decision on wheether animals satisfy all health requirements. By application for admission, each exhibitor agrees to show his/ her animals subject to these rules. Presenting Obviously Unhealthy animals, as defined above, may result in the entire herd’s disqaulification from the show, subject to the ruling of the Show Committee.

Breeding Sheep Show All animals entered in the show must be purebred and must be registered in the name of the exhibitor, or transferred to the exhibitor by July 22nd. Registration certificate of transfer certificate, properly executed, must be presented to the chairperson of the show when sheep arrive at the fairgrounds. Lease contracts will be accepted at the time of entry, provided they were legally entered into on or before July 1 prior to show. Leased animals will not be eligible to show in the Senior Showmanship events.

Application for entry where the age determines the class or classes to which the animal is eligible, must give exact date of birth. The pedigrees of all animals entered must be recorded in the recognized herd book for the breed and animals shall be recorded in the name of the exhibitor. Additionally, it is an important part of the program of the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association to stimulate and sustain interest in breeding registered dairy cattle. This relates to both spectators and exhibitors. In this connection, the PDCA believes that it is in the best interest of the breeders of registered dairy cattle to maintain a reputation of integrity and to present a wholesome and progressive image of their cattle in the show-ring. It recognizes that there are certain practices in the proper care and management of dairy cattle, which are necessary in the course of moving dairy cattle to and between shows that are advisable to keep them in a sound, healthy condition so that they might be presented in the show-ring in a natural, normal appearance and condition. Conversely, it recognizes certain practices in the cataloging, handling and presentation of cattle in the show-ring which are acceptable.

The following practices or procedures are considered unacceptable and defined as being unethical in the showing of registered dairy cattle: Misrepresenting the age and/or milking status of the animal for the class in which it is shown. In any female classes, animals may not be exhibited that are in milk due to unnaturally induced lactation.

Balancing the udder by any means other than by leaving naturally produced milk in any or all quarters.

Setting the teats with a mechanical contrivance or with the use of a chemical preparation.

Treating or massaging any part of the animal’s body, particularly the udder, internally or externally with an irritant, counterirritant, or other substance to temporarily improve conformation or produce unnatural animation.

Minimizing the effects of crampiness by feeding or injecting drugs, depressants or applying packs or using an artificial con-

trivance or therapeutic treatment except normal exercise.

Blocking the nerves to the foot to prevent limping by injecting drugs.

Striking the animal to cause swelling in a depressed area.

Surgery of any kind performed to change the natural contour of appearance of the animal’s body, hide or hair. Not included is the removal of warts, teats and horns, clipping and dressing of hair and trimming of hooves.

Insertion of foreign material under the skin.

Changing the color of hair at any point, spot or area on animal’s body.

The use of alcoholic beverage in the feed or administered as a drench.

Administration of drug of any kind or description internally or externally prior to entering the show ring, except for treating a recognized disease or injury and for tranquilizing bulls that may otherwise be dangerous or females in heat. For the purpose of this Code, the term “drug” shall mean any substance, the sale, possession of use of which is controlled by license under federal, state of local laws or regulations and any substance commonly used by the medical or veterinary professions which affect the circulatory, respiratory or central nervous system of a cow.

Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors while in the show-ring or other conduct detrimental to the breed or show.

In keeping with the basic philosophy of The Purebred Dairy Cattle Association, ethics are an individual responsibility of the owner of each animal shown. Violations of this code are subject to the disciplinary of the appropriate dairy breed association.

Only weaned calves may be shown.

Heifers must have their “Milk Teeth” and no heifer will show that does not have milk teeth. Show superintendent will be responsible for checking teeth on all commercial heifer entries and his decision will be final.

Heifers must be owned by exhibitors and under their care and management by May 1 of current year, per rules regarding Junior Heifer Shows. Exhibitors will not be allowed to show more than four (4) animals in the show.

Heifers will be assigned to maximum 5 lots based on hip height measurements.Heifers shown in the commercial show are not eligible to be shown in the registered show.

Registered animals will not be allowed to show in this show.

Entries for this show must be submitted on a special entry form found inside the livestock catalog. Heifers must be permanently identified by a legible tattoo in both ears and ear tag. Commercial heifer classes will be judged following the completion of Junior Beef Heifer Show. Heifers measured between 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25th.

Department J Open Beef Show Superintendents - Cory Malone, Jonathan Williams Violators will be asked to leave the fairgrounds.

Exhibitors must provide bedding for livestock.

Please refer to General Rules and Regulations for show eligibility rules.

Requirments to maintain individual shows will be a minimum of 15 head and 3 exhibitors for 3 consecutive years.

ALL CATTLE MUST BE PRE-ENTERED. NO Exhibitors will be allowed on the fairgrounds until after midnight on Wednesday. Cattle must be in place by 4:00pm Thursday. Tie out time will be at 9:30pm. Failure to abide by this ruling will result in forfeiture of premiums or removal from the fairgrounds. If you have any questions concerning information or problems, see Director, Beef Superintendent.

Cattle will not be released until Saturday, July 31st at 10:00 p.m. or as specified by the Beef Superintendent. All exhibitors must purchase exhibitors tickets.

As part of increased awareness and surveillance for Avian Influenza and other poultry diseases, all bird’s physical appearance will be assessed at the time testing is conducted. Any birds that have comingled with birds of unknown disease status must test negative Pollorum-Typhoid prior to exhibition.

SWINE: All swine which enter fairs and exhibitions shall be accompanied by an official veterinary health certificate with individual permanent identification or sufficient description to identify each animal.

B. CATTLE: All cattle which enter fairs and exhibitions shall be accompanied by an official veterinary health certificate with individual permanent, official identification.

C. POULTRY: (1) Sponsors of poultry shows or exhibitions shall notify the Tennessee Department of Agriculture at least thirty (30) days prior to show or exhibition.

(2) Poultry found not to be in apparent good health shall be removed immediately from any show or exhibition.

D. HORSES & OTHER EQUIDAE:

Youth Education Displays A non-interactive, table top-board may be displayed. A tri-fold board is suggested. Content must focus on an educational topic about any area of poultry. No premiums awarded in the Chicken Department; however, youth in grades 4-12 may enter their display in the 4-H Department for competition and premiums.

III LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY ORIGINATING OUTSIDE THE STATE OF TENNESSEE Livestock and Poultry entering fairs and exhibitions from areas outside the State of Tennessee shall be subject to current Tennessee import requirements. Please contact the state veterinarian’s office regarding questions or recent changes to these rules.
