Catherine the Great The Maleficent star, 22, plays Catherine in The Great (May 15 on Hulu), a satiric series loosely based on the longestreigning female ruler in Russian history. Season one finds the Prussian princess arriving in Russia for her arranged marriage to the mercurial Emperor Peter (Nicholas Hoult, 30) in a dangerous, backward world that she resolves to change. What did you like about Catherine? Her

optimism and her hopefulness; her hope for the future and how it’s so bright. She always has a plan B, which I really admire. She’s extremely clever and curious, and it’s like, “OK, I got knocked a little bit; going to come back and try to figure this out.” She slowly has to learn that in order to get to the bigger picture or fix the bigger problem, you can make small steps along the way. What lessons have you learned from playing Catherine the Great?

The show is very much about a woman finding her power and learning from others. She listens intently to everyone around her. I wish I was as perceptive as she was. What’s so fascinating, with Peter specifically, she’s trying to kill him, but along the way, she learns so much from him. What was it like wearing a corset on set? The Black-ish TV star, 47, moves onto the big screen for the new dramedy The High Note, about two women—singing superstar Grace Davis (Ross) and her assistant Maggie (Dakota Johnson, 30)—who bond as they work together in the music business.

How do you describe the relationship between Grace and Maggie? They are on paths to be the versions of themselves that they want to be, and they support each other. I identified with this idea that we often get trapped being who people want us to be instead of who we are. Did her mom, singer Diana Ross, give her any coaching on the role? Do you identify with Grace because, like you, she never married? Definitely. There’s an element I loved about Grace, where she’s like, “These are the choices I’ve made.” You can have a big, full, beautiful life, and it doesn’t have to be contingent on a man.

What’s it like singing before a live audience? It was fine, it was great, it was exciting. I will tell you that being onstage with a microphone and singing is probably the most fun I’ve had with my clothes on in my life.

Who loves their mama? These celebrities do! They’ve asked their moms to be their plus-one at movie premieres and awards shows.

Blueberry Streusel Skillet Breakfast Cake Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9-inch cast-iron skillet with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk ½ cup packed brown sugar, Âź cup CNN RWTRQUG Ćƒ QWT and a pinch of kosher salt. Add 3 Tbsp melted unsalted butter; stir until crumbly with some large pieces still intact. In a medium bowl, whisk 2 cups all-purpose y ÂœĂ•Ă€] £¤ ĂŒĂƒÂŤ baking powder and 1 tsp salt. In a large bowl, beat ½ cup (1 stick) softened unsalted butter 1 minute or until smooth.
