This trip is for those who are passionate about birds, love nature and a brisk walk on the mountainsides. Visit the breathtaking islands and get a closer look at the beautiful, colourful flowers, while the diverse bird life unfolds around you. Experience the islands of Mykines, where you get close to the birds, Sandoy with the interesting flora and bird life as well as Nólsoy, which offers a unique evening walk to the largest Storm Petrel colonies in the world.

DAY 1: Arrival with Atlantic Airways. Pick up your rental car at the airport. Enjoy the rest of the day on your own, visit for example the small villages of Bøur and Gásadalur, or take a walk from the village of Sandavágur to the rock formation the Witches’ Finger. Spend the night in Vágar.

DAY 2: With ferry to Mykines. Mykines is unique with is rich bird life. Upon arrival we begin with a guided hike. See puffins and the only Faroese gannet colony. Spend the night in Vágar.

DAY 3: We suggest a stop in the village of Eiði to hike to Eiðiskollur. Eiðiskollur has a very special plant life because it was a nunatak during the ice age and the sheep do not graze in the area during summer. Continue on to the village of Gjógv and en route see the highest mountain, Slættaratindur at 882 meters and the rock formations the Giant and the Witch. Spend the night in Eysturoy.

DAG 4: Enjoy Gjógv, which is known for its natural harbor. If you walk along the edge of the crevice, you might see some puffins coming out of their nests on their way out to the ocean to get food for their young. At the end of the crevice, facing the open ocean, it is possible to enjoy the view from Crown Princess Mary’s Bench. Continue to the ferry port Gamlarætt via Tórshavn to sail to the island Sandoy. Overnight at Sandoy.

DAY 5: From the village of Sandur we have arranged a guided walk with one of the locals. You go to the fresh water lake Gróthúsvatn to see and hear more about the birdlife and to the sand dunes with a wide array of flowers, including Northern Marsh-orchid, Tufted Vetch, Marram and Icelandic Searocket. Spend the night at Sandoy.

DAY 6: Return to Tórshavn. Early evening you take the ferry to the island of Nólsoy. On your own you can walk around and explore this cosy little village. Later in the evening a guided walk to the Storm Petrel colony, the largest in the world. An exciting walk that lasts from apprx. 11 pm to 3 am. Spend the night in Nólsoy.

DAG 7: Return to Tórshavn. Enjoy the rest of the day on your own. We suggest a visit to the National Museum and the Open Air Museum, which is situated in beautiful surroundings by the old village of Hoyvík. The village of Kirkjubøur, which is the cultural center of the Islands is also worth a visit. Spend the night in Tórshavn.

DAG 8: Return rental car at the airport. Departure with Atlantic Airways.

PLEASE NOTE:Please bring warm and practical clothes, a water bottle for the walks and remember your binoculars. Not included: Transportation between islands (ferries and sub-sea tunnels) except Mykines.
