The joy

of missing out Ten years ago I traveled to France on my first sourcing trip with Elsie Green. The French do not multi-task. They sit with their cafes, they enjoy their lunches and when they are engaged in a conversation they give their full attention. On that first trip, I asked for a cafe créme togo in a bistro and the server simply said “non.” Perhaps it was my French, but I think it was more that she rejected my lifestyle choice. it was on that trip that I began to learn about the concept of doing one thing at a time, and doing it very well.

We have a rule when we’re traveling: no chain hotels allowed. We prefer a chic local spot. We feel that it gives us a better sense for the city we’re visiting, and the carefully curated decor always leaves us feeling inspired. And for us, one of the highlights of traveling is always the cozy, luxurious bedding found in hotels. Take a peek at our guide for creating that luxury at home for the perfect spot to catch up on some sweet dreams.

checked in we believe the best way to start a new year is by undertaking a challenge. And the screen time report Apple delivers each week got us thinking what if we went off the grid for a day? Would we miss the constant stimulation or would the break be a welcome relief?

We love a happy hour. Relaxing before dinner with a glass of something refreshing and some good conversation is always time well spent. But after indulging throughout the holidays, we prefer to forgo intricate cocktails and pursue lighter, somewhat healthier options.

It’s no secret that Moroccan baskets are one of our favorite Elsie essentials. A short while ago, we asked a few of our friends to show us how they use their Moroccan baskets at home and throughout their days.

color crush is nude a color? We think so. We love a clean palette of shades that range from a creamy white to a deep brown. and this spring it is serving as inspiration for so many things we choose. We’re all dressing in more neutral attire, and find ourselves drawn to art, decor and flowers in shades of nude.

After what feels like winter’s season of excess, we always feel inspired to live better with less when spring rolls around. Less color, less pattern and fewer pieces in our wardrobe. But of course, we want the right pieces. So the edit begins.

once we were ready to throw a dinner party again after a bit of a break, we decided to focus entirely on what we could source from within 100 miles of San Francisco: the food, the wine, the guests, the music. It was a fun exercise in understanding the seasonality and supply chain of the things we consume.

“art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” thomas merton you can’t help but be an artist or a curator if you work for elsie green. So we all have a special place in our hearts and our homes for the unique pieces of art that we find on our travels. And for the little known museums and galleries we find along the way.

playing tourist

Have you noticed a theme? This spring we’re focused on simplicity, and enjoying what is right in front of us. and with that, travel is no exception. it’s not lost on us that the Elsie Green team is based in some of the most beautiful cities in the world: San Francisco, Lyon, seattle, New York, Sydney. So our spring travel guide is an ode to the idea of playing the tourist in our own cities and the belief that sometimes a staycation can be just as sweet.
