The Tee-Pee Trellis Tools

Materials

Description The Tee-Pee Trellis is a simple way to create a base for climbing plants to grow. These can be used to grow food or just decoratively. The TeePee Trellis only requires a trowel and the materials listed, making it suitable for all ages to get involved with making and using it.

Step 1 - Plot out a circle with a 1m radius in your garden.

Step 2 - Dig up a plot of soil 20 cm wide internally of your plotted circle. This will be the base of your plants so adding compost is recomended.

Step 3 - Dig in each length of wood about 10cm deep into the circle. Evenly spread them around your circle supporting each other in the middle.

Step 4 - Use your garden twine to bind your timbers together in the middle.

Step 5 - Thread your twine around your teepee, keeping the twine heights between each level of twine about 20cm away from each other.

5 Step 6 - Plant 1 - 3 seeds around the base of each timber length.

The hanging pallet can be used to create a perfect place to grow herbs and small veg, as well as being used decoratively. The pallet design does not need to be hung by chains but also via metal brackets attached to walls or simple simply just sat up on a floor next to a wall.

Step 1 - Cut lengths of landscaping cloth to match the width of your chosen pallet.

Step 2 - Fold lengths of the cut landscaping to form pouches behind each wooden plank. Use nails to hold the landscape pouch in place.

Step 3 - Drill a pilot hole in to the top corner of both pallets and two into the wall matching the width of your pallet.

3 Step 4 - Screw each hook into your new pilot holes.

Step 5 - Fill each pouch of landscape cloth with soil and plant your seeds.

Step 6 - Use the chain to hang your pallet onto the wall with your cup hooks.

The hanging half pipes are a simple but elegant way to form a hanging garden.

8 x 3mm Wire Cross Clamps

If you want rather then using pipes, hang a plastic or metal trough, this will work just as well.

3mm Steel Rods 2 x Metal Cup Hooks Length depends on personal desire for width of Green Wall However it is not recommended to go larger then 1.5m

Description


Step 1 - Divide your chosen length of pipes into two cutting down the middle to create two equal half pipes. Repeat this step with the end caps and attached to end of your pipes

Step 2 - Drill a hole at the bottom of your pipe either side - around 10cm from each end of the pipe. The hole should be slightly larger then the wire. Step 3 - Drill a number of other holes down the middle of your pipe (these are for drainage)

Step 4 - Drill two pilot holes in a wall for your metal hooks were you want to hang your green walls - make sure the distance between the holes match that of your pipe holes.

Step 5 - Screw the metal cup hooks in to your wall pilot holes. Step 6 - Bend your steel rods to match the bend of your pipes and thread through your cross clamps.

Step 7 - Thread your wire through the holes in the pipe you previously drilled. Use the cross clamps to secure them at your desired height.

Step 8 - Use the loop clamps to create a loop at the top of your wires. Use the loop and metal cup hooks to hang your vertical garden. Step 9 - Fill your pipes with compost and plant your seeds.

Description

Garden Twine

The bottle wall is a great way to reuse plastic bottles rather then throwing them away.

Washer

It is really easy to make and can be used to grown a large variety of food from salads to vegetables through to strawberries.


Step 1 - Cut your bottles in half with scissors or a knife to form two cups. Step 2 - Pierce two holes at the top of each cup directly opposite each other. A potato skewer is perfect for this. Step 3 - Cut two matching lengths of garden twine - The length depends on how many bottles you want to add to each columns. You will need 40cm for each bottle. Step 4 - Tie an end of each thread to a washer before threading each twine through the holes in your bottle. Step 5 - Tie a washer 40cm above your first bottle, thread a new bottle. Do this until you have threaded all your bottles You should have 40cm of twine remaining. Step 6 - Tie a loop into the top of your twine. Step 7 - Use a drill and a screw driver to screw a screw into your wall from where you want to hang your bottles. Use this screw to hang your wall. Step 8 - Fill each bottle with fresh compost and your choosen seeds

Description The most simplest form of creating a green wall, this is a quick way to increase the yield of your garden. It can also be used to create a barrier to allow for privacy or shade.


Step 1 - Place your planters under a suitable place to hang your net. The edge of a trellis or wall of house works well. Step 2 - Drill two pilot holes above each planter in the wall above the planter, these will be used for the cup hooks and net. The height of the holes should be slightly less then the length of your net. Step 3 - Hang your net above your planters, the length of net should be slightly wider then your planter. Step 5 - Weigh your net down into your planter - Loose stones or rocks work well for this. Step 4 - Fill your planters with fresh compost and seeds for growing plants.

Description The growing pipe prefect for growing small plants and creating a wall which is easy to maintain. Perfect for a strawberry plant or ten! ten.


Step 1 - Cut lengths of pipe into your desired height - Make your thinner pipe around 10cm taller then your wider pipe. Step 2 - Drill a number of small holes (around 3mm) into your thinner pipe. Do not drill any holes in the bottom quater of your pipe.

Step 3 - Wrap the thinner pipe in some landscaping cloth and secure with the garden twine. This will stop roots blocking up your watering pipe

Step 4 - Wittle down your cork and use it to plug the bottom of your thinner pipe. Step 5 - Use a holesaw to drill your planting holes into your larger pipe - Around 75-100mm diameter. Try to stagger the height of your holes in the same row to stop over crowding of roots. Keep the holes around 300mm apart.

Step 6 - Dig a 200mm wide circle hole into a patch of your garden - around 200mm deep. Place your large tube into the hole and fill around it. (If you have a hard surface - using a planting pot will work just as well) Step 7 - Fill the bottom of your large tube with some loose gravel or loose stones to help your soil drain.

Step 8 - Place the thinner tube in the middle of your wider tube and fill round this with compost. Step 9 - Plant one - three seeds into each planting hole Step 10 - Use the inner pipe to water your plants regularly.
