FOR MANY PEOPLE, THE MERE IDEA OF CHANGE EVOKES FEAR, UNCERTAINTY, and ambiguity. When my team and I decided to completely revamp this annual spring supplement, those feelings came in waves—so much so that I struggled to wrap my head around when, how, and with what materials I could create such a publication. But thanks to an incredible team, longtime Midwest Home readers can take notice of this fresh take on our traditional Homebook. The now-standalone Homebook issue was thoughtfully curated to serve as the quintessential resource featuring everything a homeowner could ever need while planning and creating their dream home. Of course, you’ll still see the beautiful images of exquisite homes you’ve come to know and love within these pages, but this special issue celebrates far more than just sensational spaces. In fact, its primary purpose is to help you embrace change within your own home—perhaps creating a visual spark that ignites action and brings the images you have of your home’s potential into reality. The 2022 Homebook is packed with the latest home design trends and ideas to steal in more than a dozen categories. You’ll also find feedback and advice from local pros, company profiles of some of the area’s best design-build experts, project spotlights that illuminate incredible works, and our retail resource guide that features myriad brands (both local and national) to shop and support. Additionally, we’re releasing the most comprehensive online service directory of Minnesota and the surrounding area’s many interior designers, builders, remodelers, architects, and landscape professionals. Visit MidwestHome.com to search through 3,500-plus listings—the ultimate collection of reputable, respected individuals to consider when kicking off your next home project. Now, as I sift through the stunning issue I was once so intimidated to launch, I find myself contemplating why we associate change with fear and anxiety when we could just as easily meet its uncertainty with hope and excitement. Change, though full of unknowns, can often lead to something special—something we never could have anticipated or planned for. Staring at the 80 pages of “something special” that sit before me, I know that belief to be true, and it is directly reflected in this curated edition of Midwest Home. I hope you enjoy its contents and find it both inspiring and instructive.

HEATING UP HOME We know fireplaces aren’t anything new, but we are seeing a shift in the way they’re designed and incorporated into dens, porches, sunrooms, living spaces, and more. Cue Eminent Interior Design with this elongated, thin, and oh, so modern electric fireplace installed into an open, airy great room.

Top-of-the-line appliances and integrated technology are no longer a luxury— they’re a way of life for homeowners looking to ramp up at-home convenience and comfort

HIDDEN BEAUTY In 2022, refrigerators typically trend one of two ways: The traditional stainless-steel route (sometimes outfitted with giant touch screens) or the “search and find” type—where the massive, must-have appliance is disguised and hidden behind perfect panels of cabinetry. For a seamless, integrated appearance, ask your designer about these paneled refrigerator options.

HEY, JOSH! Skip the personal assistant and give at-home artificial intelligence a serious spin. Josh.ai, for example, a before-its-time smart home system able to respond to more than a million voice and app queries, is changing the way of life within the family home of Peter Crain, owner of Trestle Homes. “As a custom home builder, I believe voicecontrolled automation is the future of home management,” says Crain. “Our home is one of the first Josh installations in Minnesota, and it’s a great product—it’s like Alexa and Siri on steroids. We can tell Josh to turn off the lights, lower the shades, and turn on the TV, and he answers instantly in a polite British voice. We can even ask him to tell a joke, and he responds with a lame Dad joke!”

THE RAGE ON RANGES

“The beauty, the feel, the roar of the flame: It ignites all your senses and certainly adds more passion to cooking at home. Handcrafted and truly tailored to the way you like to cook, these ranges add to the art of crafting a meal for your loved ones.”

Whether it be Lacanche, La Cornue, or another global brand, ornamental and elaborate stoves and ranges that emit vintage vibes are on the rise. This steely grayblue option incorporated by City Homes beautifully demonstrates the appeal of this functional, yet flair-filled kitchen appliance.

Everyone deserves to live in luxury, especially when it’s combined with unmatched convenience and easier-than-ever functionality. This shower system by Kohler (featuring voice-enabled technology with various steam, temperature, lighting, and preset options) delivers a customizable, can’t-beat showering experience that offers ultimate relaxation.

Bath & Plumbing

From powder rooms to owners’ suites, our bathrooms are places of relaxation and rejuvenation that pack punches of pure splendor and cutting-edge design

P H O T O S PA C EC R A F T I N G

CRISP & CLEAN, WHITE & SERENE Although all-white spaces are arguably losing traction in favor of more colorful selections, the undeniable cleanliness of a crisp white design makes it an ever-popular choice for bathrooms—especially when it includes a luxe, larger-than-life floor tile like this stunning Aülik Design Group bathroom on Robinson Bay. Whether as a vanity top, floor, or backsplash, we’ll argue white still makes a striking statement.

VANISHING ACT Long gone are the days of round, traditional shower drains. Instead, linear drains are gaining momentum. In fact, they can be so sleek and discreet that it’s oftentimes challenging to distinguish where the water could possibly go. A sure staple in 2022 shower design and innovation, these drains come in multiple grate styles—including wire, slotted, circle, square, and more.

There are plenty of design elements— from material selections to décor and furnishings—worth coughing up cash for. Your bathroom plumbing (think faucets, shower heads, controls, and knobs) can, and should, be on that list, too. Choose aged brass or matte black to stay extra in the know.

AT-HOME REFRESH MA Peterson Designbuild can craft it all, including the most serene primary bathroom suites you’ve ever seen. More and more homeowners are striving to bring the spa straight home, and the MA Peterson team has advice on exactly how to do it: “A spa-like bathroom environment can provide the perfect getaway in your home. You can create your relaxing space by making it feel open and airy, creating calming sensory experiences, and designing for privacy, comfortability, and versatility. Natural light, a tub area with shelving for candles or accessories, a steam shower with additional features, in-floor heat, built-in speakers, and a soothing color palette in the room can create the perfect environment for your restful haven.”

RADIANT REFLECTIONS

“Every design decision we make comes down to the smallest of details. These pieces each carry an elegant, yet simplistic element and complete any space in a home. Timeless details are always on trend.”

Large, flat mirrors flush against the wall above your vanity get the job done—don’t get us wrong. But there are options beyond what we know, love, and have grown accustomed to. This Rejuvenation pivot mirror (left) adds depth and dimension to your space, while interior designer Bria Hammel’s Brooke & Lou Olive Mirror (far left) glistens with gold accents— providing both shimmery color and radiance. Brooke & Lou’s Shield Mirror (middle) adds a touch of storybook-like whimsy to a beautiful bath.

TRADITION WITH A TWIST Whether it be a rustic, reclaimed wood or classic white molding, up the ante with a grid pattern like this one inside a recent Stonewood project.

LOOK UP In 2022, it seems sky-high ceiling beams (often composed of reclaimed wood) are installed in some capacity in nearly every home, but it’s no surprise why. These additions enhance character and usher in a sense of grandeur, creating a rustic touch of warmth and structural surprise that can’t be denied. Not sure where to start? Check out Manomin Resawn Timbers in Hugo, where owner Sarah Londerville offers hand hewn, weathered antique, Douglas fir, and antique elm timbers and box beams.

HIGH-GLOSS GLAM Stray from conventional, and consider high-gloss finishes for your kitchen cabinetry. Poggenpohl, a German cabinet maker, also offers plenty of additional options through local distributor Partners 4, Design.

BARELY THERE Some homeowners are opting for a minimalist, “less is more” concept with hardware, either minimizing—or completely eliminating!—the need for pulls and handles. Instead, electronic options, push-to-open drawers, and knock mechanisms are owning the scene.

A PERSONAL MUSEUM An art piece or two to grace your living room walls is always a safe way to add life and color to your spaces, but a full art gallery—featuring a collection or multiple pieces by one or more artists—shows off your sophisticated side like none other. Even better? Go above and beyond, and source from a local artist like this MA Peterson client did in their contemporary lakeside home. These works, handcrafted by collage artist Kristi Abbott, feature thousands of hand-cut paper pieces sourced from magazines, album covers, photographs, and online to create portraits of pop culture icons.

SHEREE VINCENT, FUSION DESIGNED

BIOPHILIC DESIGN “Biophilic design creates a strong relationship between nature and human-made environments,” Fusion Designed’s Sheree Vincent explains. “Introducing biophilic designs into your home improves your physical and mental health, your productivity, and reduces stress.” Vincent has been ahead of this trend for years, and has five tips on how to infuse more biophilic design elements into our safe havens and sanctuaries: • Introduce more live plants and cut flowers (just like this staircase garden by JMAD James McNeal Architecture & Design, pictured right) • Purchase artwork that immerses you in nature • Open curtains and windows to bring in daylight • Incorporate fabrics and furnishings made from natural fibers • Introduce patterns, textures, and accessories that reflect or replicate nature

“Grandmillenial style,” wildly popular among those in their late 20s and 30s, is defined by trends and design elements deemed “outdated” by mainstream sources. From ruffles and embroidery to Laura Ashley prints, trim, chinoiserie, and slipcovers, it’s a style you either love or could live without—and it all might depend on your age. Prospect Refuge Studio, though, has the style on lock in this Lowry Hill townhome.

The peak of open shelves’ popularity is arguably a thing of years’ past, but the way in which we style these surfaces transforms over time. In 2022, mixing new pieces with antique, vintage items (even better if they are passed down or inherited from loved ones) is the go-to strategy for sourcing what earns a place on display. Styling them, however, is an art: “I am a proponent of mixing function with beauty and not the other way around,” says interior designer Victoria Amegno. “My base for creating a beautiful open shelf is rooted in function. When the right balance is achieved, an open shelf display is a great way to show off your personality.” Here’s her how-to: 1. Start with the practical items. In kitchens, this should be some dishware, and for bookshelves, books—and lots of them. Sort them by size, and stack them neatly while keeping scale in mind. Toppled books aren’t a great look, so use bookends.

Rose & Loon roseandloon.com

2. Consider the existing colors of the space, and choose a complementary color. Stay consistent with the selected color palette to create a cohesive and pleasant look.

3. Be intentional, and limit what you display. You do not need to go for a complete minimal look, but keep in mind that less is more. (Bonus: There will be less to dust, too!) Use trays, lidded baskets, and storage boxes of varying sizes to house smaller objects. The goal is to avoid a cluttered look.

4. Once the practical items have been placed, now the fun can start. Select your favorite unique objects, artifacts, and/or art to add into the arrangement. Go for a mix of medium sized pieces or one large item as they make a stronger statement than a grouping of smaller ones.

A TIME-WORN TOUCH We all need gutters, so why not select the best of the best? John Kraemer of John Kraemer & Sons suggests considering a copper material. “Not only do these gutters provide important functionality by moving water away from a home, but they also provide a beautiful architectural aesthetic that withstands the test of time,” says Kraemer. “Although bright and shiny after installation, copper gutters dull and patina over the years—providing a time-worn aesthetic many of our clients appreciate on their custom homes.”

WOOD IS “IN” FOR GOOD “Of all the available floor covering options, wood is the most consistent choice that adds value,” says Laura Tays of Tays & Co. Design Studio. “In 2022, there are specifics in wood selection that make it feel current. For example, wider and longer planks make a space feel less choppy. Varying board widths and lengths is another fresh way to add dimension and interest. Focusing on light, desaturated, matte finishes and natural textures will also add a fresh feel to your space.”

“Consider incorporating smaller pieces of furniture (like a cool accent chair or side table) to give the space a pop of visual interest.” GLADYS TAY, VINTAGE DEALER

SHAPES & SILHOUETTES If anyone has already mastered this trend to a T, it’s Shoreview-based vintage dealer and social media maven Gladys Tay. Curvy, geometric-shaped furniture pieces with unique silhouettes “are statement pieces on their own,” she says. “And because they’re timeless, it’s so easy to mix and match different styles of furniture or home décor together. Consider incorporating smaller pieces of furniture (like a cool accent chair or side table) to give the space a pop of visual interest.”

LOVELY LEATHER Although at peak popularity in the 1960s, leather is back and better than ever— and we anticipate it to stay that way for quite some while. It’s flexible, yet durable— naturally resisting tears, punctures, and damage due to spills, dirt, and furry friends. Another perk? Its beauty is unmatched.

Hardware Hardware selections prove the smallest of details can make the biggest of impacts

P H O T O A LY S S A L E E

WHEN BIGGER IS BETTER Don’t shy away from size! If you’re deciding on hardware for your cabinets, consider supersized pulls. They add a distinct style and sophistication to any design, offering an aesthetic appeal worth exploring with your trusted professional. Take this Maple Grove kitchen’s refrigerator hardware (a classic, yet vintage oversized selection by Chirigos Designs), for example.

TRENDS | hardware

ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES Gone are the days of needing to narrow down hardware options to your one and only favorite. Try incorporating two or three styles into your space for a subtle touch of personalization. “This homeowner wanted a combination of knobs and cup pulls, but some cabinetry needed a more substantial handle,” says Jolynn Johnson, president of Crystal Kitchen + Bath. “To accommodate, long pulls were added to the dishwasher, trash door cabinet, and pantries. Selecting different hardware from the same collection allows the choices to blend together.”

JOLYNN JOHNSON, CRYSTAL KITCHEN + BATH

When it comes to hardware finishes, the options can be overwhelming. There’s nickel, bronze, brass, pewter, chrome, steel, and colored metals in satin, polished, aged, antique, and matte finishes. What’s in and what’s out changes by the decade, but in 2022, matte black and aged brass finishes seem to be snagging the win.

DECORATIVE & DAINTY Add layers of character when you install antique, decorative doorknobs into your small spaces. “Said a million times—and still true—hardware is the jewelry of a room,” says principal architect David Heide of David Heide Design Studio. “We love glass knobs and use them often. Contemporary or vintage, few rooms wouldn’t benefit from the fresh brightness these pieces certainly bring. There’s nothing like the feel of a beautiful pool-of-glass doorknob in your hand or the clean, crisp sparkle of a clear—or colored—cabinet knob caught in a moment of sunlight.”

LOW-MAINTENANCE LIVING When the hustle and bustle of daily life gets the best of us, tending to our landscapes can fall to the end of our list. That’s why homeowners are increasingly opting for low-maintenance landscaping options in the form of natural, overgrown grasses (like no-mow fescue) or synthetic turf. Heather Sweeney, senior designer at Mom’s Design Build, shares more: “I love synthetic turf for shady areas where you normally can’t get grass to grow,” she says. “It’s also amazing for dog runs, game courts, or areas around your landscape you want furniture but don’t want hardscapes. You don’t need to water it—which decreases your water bill—and it’s amazing for hard-to-drain areas. The system acts as a large drain field (depending on your base material), so you don’t have standing water after a heavy rain.” But what’s the catch? What are the cons? “It’s not real,” Sweeney explains. “The cost is a lot higher than natural turf, and it can get warmer on your feet than natural lawn.”

Backyards are often designed for ultimate entertaining, but instead of sitting around and sipping drinks in large seating areas and fourseason porches, that entertainment is also happening in full-blown game areas—like mini putting greens, full-size shuffleboard courts, and dedicated bean bag stations.

HOT SPOTS

OUTDOOR EATS We always talk about bringing the outdoors in, but what about bringing the indoors out? Outdoor kitchens (cue Ruby & Suede) are one of the best ways to entertain and throw parties in style. You can personalize however you please, of course, but we can’t resist recommending a pizza oven and mini fridge with ample room for cocktails and condiments to whip out during summer cookouts.

Fond memories never fail to be made when enjoying time around a fire on a fleeting fall or summer evening. Amp up this quintessential activity by investing in more than a set of chairs and portable pit. Designated, built-in fire areas (especially sunken pits like this one by Ground One Landscape Design + Build + Maintain) are where you’ll want to spend every waking moment.

AIRFLOW MADE MODERN Modern-day ceiling fans don’t look clunky or out of place. In fact, with the right style, they can add visual interest to areas (aka plain white ceilings) that often need some extra “oomph.” We specifically love this sleek three-bladed fan, incorporated seamlessly into the design of this Quartersawn Design Build sunroom project in Minneapolis’ Cedar Lake area. This specific product, named Maverick and sourced from the Monte Carlo Fan Company, features a 60-inch blade sweep and design that delivers incredible airflow and aesthetics.

LET THERE BE (LINEAR) LIGHT When there are so many options to peruse—from sconces and pendants to flush mounts and more—knowing which direction to go (and which design style to choose) to best suit your space can feel near impossible. We can help: Lighting fixtures linear in style are gaining extra traction, as many homeowners are enjoying the modern look and warm ambiance they provide above places like a dining room table. Sustainable 9 Design + Build demonstrates this trend flawlessly in a Hugo home.

CAPITALIZE ON COLOR Zach Dutton and Thomas Brown, lighting designers and owners of Minneapolisbased lighting company Dutton Brown, know a thing or two about trends in lighting design. They expect color to be on the leading edge of what’s hot in 2022, but they don’t just encourage the use of color for the sake of it: “People are looking for color that both makes a statement and integrates well within their space,” they say. “People are spending a lot of time at home and are focused on creating a cohesive, comfortable space for themselves and for entertaining.”

MID-CENTURY GEO-HEX BACKSPLASH SAMPLE

What tile trends to do you expect to see in 2022? We are expecting to see an increase in warm colors as well as unique color blends that add extra character to a space. One trend we are noticing with our clients is the desire to think outside of a monochromatic palette by mixing cool and warm hues together to create a dynamic blend. We love working one-on-one with clients to customize the color percentages, such as the Mid-Century Geo-Hex Backsplash, to make the blend truly their own. This helps create a beautiful focal point with tile while also supporting the aesthetic of the entire space. Are there any particular tile shapes that are extra in-demand? We are excited to see that people are gravitating toward our geometric designs. These patterns offer an innovative twist on classic shapes such as triangles, hexagons, diamonds, squares, and bricks. A popular favorite is our signature Geo-Hex pattern that combines our hexagon and diamond tiles. These patterns are completely customizable, and the design opportunities are endless.

Having the ability (in both space and function) to do exactly that has grown increasingly crucial. NATURALLY NEUTRAL Although black is back for good, color palettes are also growing increasingly more brown—flaunting stunning shades that trend from taupe and tan to chocolate and cream. If pops of punctuated color aren’t your preference, a more neutral route will still provide color but in a subtle, understated fashion. How to make these neutrals even more exciting? “Layer them through the use of texture,” suggests Amanda Lorenz of Henri Interiors. This Prospect Refuge Studio primary bedroom demonstrates the trend in a timeless fashion.

Interior designer Lisa Peck of Minneapolis-based LiLu Interiors shares just how key these curtains really are: “Window treatments are an important part of how a space feels and functions,” she says. “They provide light control, offer privacy, and frame views. Shades and drapery are opportunities to add softness, color, and pattern to an interior.”

THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON Make waking up and winding down simple and convenient with motorized shades, easily controlled with the touch of your smart device. Landschute THE MEANING BEHIND THE LANDSCHUTE NAME In 1975, Jon Monson, AIA, studied architecture in Landschute, a small medieval town in Germany. There, he developed an appreciation for the master builder practice of architect as builder. To this day, the name Landschute stands for integrating the science and art of building—a seamless continuity between design and construction.

LEAVING A LEGACY Because of our love and respect for history, there is a unique satisfaction that comes from saving an old structure from demolition and reworking it into a timeless gem. At the same time, we know when it makes more sense to start from scratch. Either way, it is a privilege to create something that will be beautiful for generations to come.

WE LOVE WHAT WE DO For more than 44 years, Jon and Mary Monson have been designing, building, and remodeling homes with the goal of enhancing one’s quality of life. We are a family business—we enjoy working together, we are passionate about what we do, and we have a deep sense of accountability. We are genuinely energized and excited by the opportunity to do what we love every day.

couple who recently became empty nesters approached Hendel Homes, via Danielle Loven and Vivid Interior Design, with the desire for a house rooted in the classic English Tudor style with a modern twist befitting the grandeur of the Hamptons and contemporary California-style indoor and outdoor living. In collaboration with the clients, Hendel designed and constructed their new 7,836-square-foot home in Prior Lake, which includes four bedrooms and seven baths. Organized around an intelligent floor plan ideal for family leisure and large gatherings, the home features well-curated formal and informal spaces that open to lush landscaping by Yardscapes and resort-style outdoor living spaces. Hendel and Vivid worked with the clients to design interior spaces rich with natural metals, woods, and organic materials; designer wall coverings, marble mosaics, and waterfall-edge quartz countertops; and customdesigned and custom-built cabinets and showcase light fixtures in iron and brass. Near the kitchen, a set of custom-paneled walnut glass doors leads to a beverage bar, behind which is the scullery or prep kitchen. The lower level of the home, designed for entertaining, features a built-in whiskey bar and custom-designed abstract glass shelves. Natural light floods the airy formal and informal interior spaces. Hendel optimized the ways in which the interiors open to the exterior grounds to ensure fluid indoor and outdoor living and maximum entertainment value. A three-season porch, fire feature, swimming pool, alfresco patios, and outdoor kitchen are arranged on terraced levels with custom furniture and lighting.

The architectural team, in collaboration with Ron Brenner Architects, made sure the home’s pitches, overhangs, and proportions were precisely implemented to ensure a cohesive palette and balance modern and traditional elements. Because the homeowner is an auto enthusiast and collects classic cars, Hendel designed and constructed a two-level, four-car garage attached to the home, in addition to a detached 10-car garage. The result is a casual, sophisticated home that feels perfectly at ease in the Midwest. The home was also a fun and rewarding project for Hendel, in large part because of the clients’ enthusiasm, involvement, and trust. Form and function blend seamlessly to provide the ultimate lifestyle experience in this artisan home. This modern reinvention of timeless design delights the homeowners and their guests with highly refined and detailed living spaces open to beautiful outdoor living spaces. The curated approach deployed by Hendel, Vivid, and the homeowners has created a welcoming residence that’s also upscale, sophisticated, and artful.

Pristine Yard Makeover and Poolside Oasis

Ground One Landscape Design + Build + Maintain transforms one family’s home in Deephaven

I

P H O T O S P R OV I D E D

n transforming the lackluster front entrance and backyard pool of a 1980s home for a Deephaven family, Ground One Landscape Design + Build + Maintain instigated design moves that modernized this woodland retreat. By moving the garage doors to the side of the house, Ground One formalized the home’s front entrance with a gracious stoop and landscape lighting. A circular driveway was added with limestone walls and planting beds featuring year-round color. To update the backyard with its challenging elevations, Ground One specified pouredin-place concrete walls around the existing pool, with black caps and black cable safety rails to match railings inside the home as well as the home’s windows and metal roof. Paving tiles reconcile odd pool angles with the home’s right angles. Ground One repeated one pool angle in a metal fire feature (operated remotely via phone app) beside a custom bench built by the homeowner. The pool deck accommodates sunning and lounge areas. Concrete stairs connect the home’s lower level with the deck, which has cooking and dining near the kitchen. The family thrives in their new outdoor areas. The project won an MNLA award for Landscape Excellence and the MNLA Judges Choice Award for 2022.

Southview Design S

ince the pandemic forced families to hunker down, the value of outdoor living spaces and well-landscaped yards has become paramount. Southview Design, which launched in 1978, has completed more than 8,500 outdoor projects in the Twin Cities metro and western Wisconsin, and excels at transforming challenging sites into gorgeous outdoor living spaces. No matter the size of the yard, the difficulty of the site, or the complexity of the dream—which these days might include a swimming pool, hot tub, pool house, putting green, fireplace, outdoor kitchen, dining area, patio, pergola, and gardens—Southview Design has the expertise to design and build to the highest standards, and uses hardworking crews led by expert project managers. Intricate hardscapes, shoreline restoration, steps, outdoor lighting, sport courts, massive retaining walls, steep slopes, architectural design elements, and environmental considerations (like controlling runoff into lakes and streams) are all in their wheelhouse. Using 3D modeling and drones, Southview Design can “walk” and “fly” homeowners through their proposed outdoor living areas and gardens. During hands-on meetings, Southview’s designers and landscape architects guide clients through design, planning, budgeting, and construction. Southview Design’s exemplary work has earned the company more than 45 awards for excellence in design, including from Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA), the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), regional and national awards from

from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), the Minnesota Chapter of NARI, Midwest Home magazine, and Professional Remodeler magazine. “Southview recently redesigned our front yard,” says one client. “We were impressed with the designer’s ability to incorporate our existing plants into a new design, and the plant guide they created that helps us manage and care for our new landscaping. The entire crew was professional and always took time to answer our questions.” As homeowners continue to want integrated interior and exterior spaces, to extend the seasons and embrace life outdoors, Southview continues to innovate outdoor rooms and amenities seamlessly connected to the home. From luxury lakeside homes to small urban yards, Northwoods-inspired trellises and walls to terraces along the forest’s edge, Southview’s professional landscape designers plan robust outdoor living spaces and landscapes that thrive even in Minnesota weather. “After searching for five years, we finally found Southview, which designed and implemented a landscape project in front of our home,” says one relieved client. “The plan perfectly accommodates our home’s design and our location along the river bluffs. The landscape crews were friendly, hardworking, and skilled; the project supervisor and design manager worked together during installation. We’re totally satisfied with all facets of the project.”

o home is safe and secure without properly installed roofi ng, siding, and windows, and well-functioning gutters. And no home feels finished without beautiful, maintenance-free soffits and fascia. JTR Roofing, Inc. not only ensures clients a healthy home exterior that stands the test the time (as well as Minnesota and Wisconsin weather), but the company’s expertise in installation and exterior products also “makes getting a new roof seamless and pain free,” as one client enthused. JTR Roofing, Inc. is well-known throughout the Minnesota and western Wisconsin for beautiful craftsmanship, top-notch service, and high-quality products. Whether new construction or replacement due to storm damage or remodeling, JTR Roofing is “responsive, reasonable, and respectful, a great company all around,” says a satisfied client. “They also do a great job with reroofs and remodeling. I recommend them for any size job.” Another homeowner raved: “We were blown away by JTR’s professionalism, efficiency, and fantastic work. They have an amazing system set up. From start to finish they completed the house and garage in under four hours (rip-off to new shingles). There were no signs that they were even there afterwards, no nails, no old shingles, no crushed plants… Even the neighbors were impressed!” As homeowners increasingly request higher-end and more visually appealing roofing, the company has specialized in recommending and installing the Presidential Shake by CertainTeed. Presidential Shake is considered the “founding father of wood shake replicas.”

The product incorporates the top-tier performance of asphalt and the curb appeal of hand-split cedar shake roofing with the unwavering quality of CertainTeed. The product has an intricate shingle design that creates an architecturally beautiful roof; offers a rich color palette to enhance and complement any home exterior; is less expensive than real wood shake; and is practically maintenance free. The Presidential Shake TL incorporates three layers of material, making it the industry’s thickest, toughest, and heaviest shingle. Sculpted tabs provide the unique, rustic beauty of hand-split cedar shake roofing. By offering this trending product, JTR Roofing proves its residential expertise is as unparalleled as its customer service. “From start to finish, JTR is professional, efficient, and on time,” says another homeowner. “I experienced no worries at all. JTR’s was the best bid and no corners were cut. They do high-quality work!” Treating every homeowner’s house as if it were their own is simply JTR’s way of doing business. As one client wrote to the company, “You went above and beyond for us. The workmanship is a 10 out of 10.”

HOW DO I PLAN FOR A POST-PANDEMIC REMODEL? While the lingering pandemic news remains, people seem to be leaving it behind and moving forward with remodeling projects both new and previously put on hold. Consumers are often asking, “Can you get the materials in a timely manner for my project?” Due to the supply chain issues created during COVID-19, lead times have changed. Consumers should be aware that there are times when manufacturers will not commit to a ship date. Your contractor can advise you of these possibilities during the selection process and steer you to materials they know can meet the project deadlines. If your contractor has a warehouse, they can order materials well ahead of schedule and warehouse them until needed, eliminating wait times.
