It’s Christmas Time- Greet Your Loved Ones with Cards A majority of people believe in greeting each other with cards on various occasions. This is because it clearly and effectively sends the message in a way that spoken words are unable to do.

Earlier, greeting cards were given only on festivals, birthdays, anniversaries etc. however a change has come in that trend and more people send cards to their loved ones just to say ‘hi’ and hello’ or simply to say ‘thank you’! But there is no doubt that when cards are given on special moments, they become more valuable and have an everlasting impression of the giver over the receiver’s mind. One occasion that is making its way soon is ‘Christmas’.

Ever since the birth of Lord Jesus Christ, it is celebrated but it was in the year 1699 that an informal letter written by an English Admiral gave birth to the process of sending greetings at this time. But formally, in the 19th century, England produced the first greeting card to be given on this particular occasion. With time, it gained popularity and Christians started greeting each other by giving cards but now irrespective of the religion, whenever it is Christmas people like to greet each other in the similar way. In 1873, Boston lithographer, Louis Prang reproduced holiday card that was signed by Charles Dickens. In fact, it was him who initiated the fad of multicolor printing process which comprised no less than 20 colors on one card.

The word Christmas was born from two words ‘Cristes Maesse’ which means Christ’s Mass. At times people also refer to it as Xmas. The alphabet X represents Xristos which is a Greek word, meaning Christ. The typical content that is used in Christmas cards to greet people comprises religious symbols, secular references or other general elements like shopping or fun-filled activities. A lot of businesses as well sometimes send cards to their clients in order to retain them by showing a gesture of thanks and respect the time and sentiments.
