Y13 IWB Task 05/10/12 – 06/11/12 (Day 3) 10 A3 pages HL or 7 SL PART 1

VISUAL ANALYSIS & ANNOTATION OF ARTWORKS (4 A3 pages) Select any three artworks from different times & cultures and make page size copies of each (you may use tracing paper to get the image started – this isn’t about your drawing skill - but the finished results should still look wonderful!) There must be a connection between the artworks. One obvious connection between the three examples (below) is relationships between men and women, relationships of power, issues of trust and deceit, and sexuality; more broadly, they are paintings of the human form and each one is clearly rooted in the culture it comes from.

You are free to choose your own artists and artworks: they could be a mixture of contemporary and from previous centuries, or from opposite sides of the world, etc. However, do try to find a connection between the artworks that you select and your own evolving studio work theme On the painted copies of your selected artworks, discuss and analyse elements; research to find information about your artworks and record the source of any information. To understand the task refer to the 3 examples from the last 500 years (Netherlands, British, & French) Quentin Massys "Ill-matched Lovers" c 1520 Edouard Manet "Le Dejeuner sur l'herbe" 1862-1863 Edward Burne-Jones "King Cophetua and the Beggar Maid" 1884 In addition to the annotated copy, you will fill a further page that continues visual and written ideas based on the artist/techniques: What connections might be made between them? What was the purpose/function of these pieces, why did you choose them and why are they important? How do the 3 chosen artists present the theme in ways which are similar? How do the 3 chosen artists present the theme in ways which are different?
