SGBIS Year 9 Art: Cultures Converge: Mixing Masks Techniques, Skills & Knowledge Using drawing and collage as a observational and thinking/problem solving tools: Different types of drawing help you to think and work creatively – this can include imaginative and experimental drawing as well as precise work recording what is in front of you Absorbing different ideas and influences and creating something new: Translating ideas from one artist and or/culture to another. The final outcomes are to be an original work rather than a copy of existing artefacts or artworks. Borrowing is good – extend your artistic vocabulary! Using tone, colour, form, line and pattern in 2 and 3 dimensions: Developing and using surface textures and patterns based upon observation, experimentation and imagination. Working in advanced techniques and media: You will need to follow instructions carefully in order to safely and effectively use new techniques within this project. Creativity often needs a great deal of concentration and discipline. Creative Critical Collaboration: Sharing ideas, comments and helpful suggestions with your peers. This means that your own work and that of others can achieve the best possible result.
Extension and Challenge Opportunities: Option 1: Create a virtual mask or sculptural head. Borrow and recycle different details and ideas from your own investigation and the links given. Reassemble them in your own construction of a mask or headwear using a free 3D computer sculpture programme such as: Sculptris (for Mac or PC) 123D Sculpt (for Ipad) VIDEO : Sculptris Tutorial VIDEO 123D Sculpt
Option 2: Work in small groups to create large sculptural masks and headgear using strips of card and tightly rolled newspaper. Combine ideas from every member of the group. Get big. Be imaginative! Make a video of yourselves in the masks – think about dramatic lighting, composition and movement.
