Deliverables

Part One: Create a logo/identity mark that can be applied across print and digital applications. Also design a range of related personal stationery, that is relevant to the clients profession and interests within the profession.

The concept for part one of the brief was to create a strong but feminine typographic logomark.

Part Two: Design and build a simple yet effective responsive portfolio site capable of showcasing a variety of film and images.

The concept for the website was to keep it clean and allow plenty of space for big imagery and video content.

Research

Research & Context

In the research for this brief i looked into existing fashion design and brands websites to get an idea of the conventions for displaying image and video, and also how they balance this with the use of typography.

I found that the sites either used light or bold typefaces which i feel is where Britt probably got her ideas of using a light typeface. Images where displayed large and where the main focus of the sites, allowing the garments or content to be shown off to the full.

Development

Development

For the development of this brief the main tasks where the building of the site and how i was going to incorporate all the content that Britt wanted to put into the site. The logomark was fairly straight forward in terms of development it just involved some conversations with Britt over typefaces and then from there it was pretty much done.

The building of this site was hard due to me trying to keep pushing my web skills and incorporate harder to build features, but these are features that allow better design so was something i had to learn to do, such as the pinning of the navigation once the browser had scrolled to the top, was particularly hard.

Logomark

Outcomes

The above image shows the logomark designed for Britt, the logo mark features a light typeface but the structure of the logo is strong which carries through the ideas we had in the concept stage of the brief.

The logo can also be used is a smaller broken down logomark for smaller applications such as end credits of films, watermarking photography or as a stamp. It retains the same structure as the main logo but using just the first letter of each name.

Outcomes

The above images show the finished site, the homepage incorporates a big header image with the navigation at the footer but when scrolled up the navigation pins to the header and the user enters the full site.

The rest of the site follows the same principle of showcasing the photography and films to the full, featuring long scrolling elements with big images and video within them. I think the site works really well and fits Britt’s needs excellently and is also engaging for the user.
