Deliverables

Collaboration with Yasmin Balfour-Lynn (BA(Hons) Visual Communication)

Design a logo with encapsulates the ethos of the tent. The logo could perhaps feature elements from last years’ design, in a sleeker, updated format. The logo will need to appeal to the target audience (people who like to visit to Belgrave, Nation of Shopkeepers, Colours May Vary and Village Bookstore). The logo needs to look really smart and represent the highest quality of graphic design possible.

The concept for this brief is ever envolving and changing due to the on-going nature of the breif and the clients changing their minds and not really knowing exaclty what they want.

So for now, the working concept is to reinvent the old logo using some of the same elements in accordance to the audience set out in the brief.

Research

Research & Context

The research for this brief consisted of investigating the audience and trying to find out as much as possible about the exisiting brand of Dawsons Arthouse. The branding also had to fit in with the organisers other offerings such as Beacons Festival itself and Dawsons Grindhouse at Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen.

OUGD603

I had already been to Beacons Festival in 2013 and been into the Dawsons tent that was there so i already knew first hand what their primary offering was, independent films that focus on youth culture and zines.

Development

Development

The development of this brief started with me experimenting with some typographic logos, in a way that i thought fitted the audience i had been provided with correctly.

OUGD603

Without much direction from the client as to what they where trying to achieve this was hard, and resulted with us sending these off to the client for some feedback.

Further Development

Outcomes

After the first logos being send to the client and some communication back and forth, they decided they wanted something even cleaner and using some of the existing elements of the old logo like the waves and dots.

OUGD603

So we sent these logos back and it came back that they were too similar to Colours May Vary, which i can understand but without any real direction or idea from them of what they want and wanting to use the existing elements of the logo theres isnt much more that i can do than more iterations of the above. Yasmine has since been to a meeting with the client and it has been agreed that they need to define what they want and send over some contextual references to me, so for that reason this brief is now going to be ongoing over and past the module deadline.
