Brief

Concept

Deliverables

Design a complete range of personal branding that is cohesive across print and web. The branding must convey what you think about yourself as a designer and how you would like to be seen by others; whether that be serious, fun etc.

The concept for my personal branding was to keep it very clean and minimalist, communicating the style of design i like to achieve within my practice.

- Logomark - Full set of stationery - Responsive website - Portfolio (Digital and Printed)

For the website i wanted to use this to inject more personality into my branding, but also keep the design fairly clean and use big image to showcase the work.

Research

Research & Context

When i was researching for the print part this brief i wanted to focus on clean and structured branding and layout. The four above images show these qualities, but i particularly like how the A&G branding brings in an different type of stock for certain things to add some extra detail to the brief.

For the web design part of this brief i focused my research on how other designers/studios showcased their work and not so much on aesthetics as i already had a strong idea of how i wanted the site to look. From the two left-hand side images show, there is different approaches to showcasing work, but both seem to use a somewhat modular approach with focus on good size images of the work being showcased.

Development

Development

During devlopment for this brief the main issue was to choose the right typeface that i thought communicates me the most and works well with the concept for the branding. As you can see here i decided that i would go for a sans-serif typeface and i set the copy i was going to use in a variety of them, i chose to go with Akkurat Regular and Bold. I feel this gives enough seriousness but isnt too harsh. Typefaces like Brezel and Calibre i thought were a bit too playful for my liking.

The web side of the devleopment had many issues, too many to fit on a board, but the main ones as shown here where making the site function responsively and also to lay the projects out correctly and in a way that best showcased the work.

Printed Stationery

Outcomes

OUGD603

I wanted to keep my stationery clean and easy to understand as there is nothing worse than getting an invoice or letter and not being able to understand the information on the page.

With the suporting stationery i chose to use manilla tubes and kraft envelopes, as these give a more personal and tacile feel than a normal envelope would.

This works particularly well with the invoice as you can see the layout is very ordered with the clients details being present at the top and then a very clear breakdown of charges below. This gives a structure and easy to understand flow to the invoice.

With the kraft envelope the addition of the fastener gives a more special and higher-end feel to the envelope and i think the addtion of this detail communicates that eye for detail and the willingness to not overlook these details, which is a good quality to have as a designer aswell.

Printed Stationery

Outcomes

Business Cards For my business cards keep to the same theme as the rest of my branding, clean and minimal, this was acheieved by using a blind emboss of my name on the front of the card. This keeps the card nice and clean but also adds the detail i feel is important to have.

The back of the cards where acheieved through the use of a stamp with the title i see fit for me as a designer and my details just below that. I think the stamping method works well and has led to a more successful card than if i had to print, or screenprint the back due to the issues i would of have had in lining the text on the back up with the emboss of the front, but using the stamp eliminates this problem.

Responsive Website

Outcomes

The header was just to inject some personallity into my branding through the website. I did this using copy, set in a contrasting typeface to that of the rest of the branding. Starting with “Print & Digital Design” the header then delete out and types something interesting about myself for example, “Drinks coffee, not tea” and so on.

The website is fully responsive, to accomodate smaller screen sizes the sections of the site stack on top of one another to create a long scrolling site, as you can see in the image above.

Responsive Website

Outcomes

These images show the various different pages within the site, from project pages, to the about page. And also how the projects are displayed on the dedicated work page. The images on the right show how the menu functions on an iPad size screen and also how the project page functions on a mobile size screen.

OUGD603

Overall, i am really happy with the site and quite proud of the achievement of building it from scratch. It is the first responsive website i have build and I feel that it showcases my work and also injects my personality into my branding to good effect.
