FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGY OFFICES

tHE FUTURE OF PRODUCTIVITY OFFICES ARE BASED ON MICROSOFT'S VISION OF THE FUTURE OF PRODUCTIVITY AND CORNING'S A DAY MADE OF GLASS, WHERE GLASS AND TECHNOLOGY ARE FULLY INTEGRATED COMPONENTS DESIGNED TO INTERFACE WITH THE USER IN ENVIRONMENTS WHERE THE CLUTTER OF CONVENTIONAL OFFICES ARE PURGED AND THE SPACE BECOMES ABOUT EXPERIENCE AND PERSONALIZATION. tHE BUILDING IS A RATIONAL RESPONSE TO THE CONTEXT AND ENVIRONEMNTAL FACTORS OF THE SITE, LOCATED IN NOHO NEW YORK CITY. THIS HIGH TECH RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE AND THE CITY IS A STUDY OF THE POTENTIAL FOR THE FUTURE OF OFFICES THAT ARE GLOBALLY INTEGRATED AND INFINITALY ADAPTABLE WORK RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTEXTS.

WOODS BAGOT NORTH AMERICA NEW YORK STUDIO

BOTAI PROJECT IN BEIJING

the botai project in beijing was a proposal done in collaboration with project leader rik ekstrom and project professional david mans. these renderings were part of a study in articulation in a predetermined massing with featured central core. these buildings are multi use and express both residential and commercial aesthetics as their final program was not entirely determined. the inclusion of an articulated screen dominates the facade informing the overall theme of the three buildings.

the boise fire station 5 is an amalgamation of its surrounding context. it takes the urban textures, colors, heterogeneities, natural phenomena, and contextual forms [found primarily in The horizontality of the elevated highway] to shape an acrobatic gesture as a catalyst for the regeneration of the linen district. paradigms of stereotomic and architectonic forms are foundational to the responses and formal queues derived from the character of the site and the values of the inhabitants and the revitalization of their community. A mural from an adjacent skate park embodied this dynamicism imperative in re-establishing a presence in this particular district.

IDAHO CONCRETE MASONRY ASSOCIATION CONTEST

BOISE FIRE STATION 5

the boise fire station 5 manifests the union of the paradigms: stereotomic and architectonic forms. The language of the techtonic employs thermal characteristics in the traditional load bearing core/node where thermal mass is adjacent to principle living zones. The south facade is a double skin and trombe wall articulation for the daytime program spaces regulating office temperatures and storing passive radiant heat for the living units above. the stereotomic envelope provides natural ventilation systems in multiple planes and fenestrations.

LONG SPAN AQUATIC CENTER

INLAND EMPIRE AQUATIC CENTER tHE INLAND EMPIRE AQUATIC CENTER OF MOSCOW IDAHO SITS IN ITS LANDSCAPE AS A COUNTETR-POINT TO THE ROLLING HILLS OF THE PALOUSE. THE FORM DOES NOT MIMETICALLY DERIVE MEANING BUT RATHER EMPHASIZEs THE LANDSCAPE BY BEING CONVERSE TO IT. tHE ROOF PLANE EMERGES FROM THE GROUND, CUTTING A THIN LINE ACROSS THE HORIZON, LIFTING UPWARD ON THE WEST SIDE TO ACCOMMODATE a DIVE TOWER AND MAIN ENTRY. a SWEEPING CANTILEVER SHADES THE INTERIOR FROM DIRECT SUNLIGHT WHILST A MEZZANINE AND PROMENADE PROVIDE DIFUSE LIGHT THROUGHOUT. THE LOW CANTELIEVER ENGAGES THE HILLS OF THE PALOUSE THROUGH WIDE PANORAMIC VIEW AND ACTS AS A DATUM, EMPHASIZING THE LAND.

GRAVES GREENHOUSE GALLERY The vertical planes that make up the primary structre which are derived from a study of de-fragmentation where a twodimensional image was translated into a three-dimensional environment thereby suggesting of form and space. Located on graves field at the university of washington campus the graves greenhouse gallery combines a botanical garden with the unconventional art exhibition space which includes a kinetic cafe that serves both the gallery and an outdoor amphitheatre. The amphitheatre serves as a water retention basin from stormwater runoff, which is directed strategically along the glass roof lights.

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add colour to my sunset sky. Rabindranath Tagore

relational + sequential

sunset bathhouse

The sunset bathhouse analyzes relational and sequential qualities of site, program, space, form, envelope, and phenomena to suggest a language to begin to form notions of dwelling and the communal in moscow idaho. The sunset bathhouse is aligned on an east-west axis that reaches toward the setting sun. The east and west entry ramps lead the patron to the main level. the apex of the sequence, the exterior shell, is made up of zinc panels with a cedar hull making up the interior panels of the shell. The bathhouse seems to leap from the block embracing the colors of the evening sky throughout.

the vinyl wall system consists of a simple interlocking triangular aluminium frame and a standard 12”X12” VINYL COMPOSITE TILE. IN THE PLATTE PARK BICYLCLE CENTER, APPROXIMATELY 800 TILES OR 9,600 SQUARE FEET OF VINYL COMPOSITE TILES COULD BE RECYCLED IN THIS APPLICATION.

denver bicycle center design competition

platte park bicycle center tHE PLATTE PARK BICYCLE CENTER IS LOCATED AT THE NORTHWEST ENTRY OF MINERAL STATION PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE. tHERE IS AN ABUNDANCE OF RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR VISITORS AND PATRONS OF THE BICYCLE CENTER AND IS A SIGNIFICANT JUNCTION FOR TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE. THE CENTER SERVES NOT ONLY THE NECESSITIES OF TRANSPORTATION AND RECREATION BUT ALSO CELEBRATES THE DYNAMIC OVERLAPING OF THESE PATHS. THE PLATTE PARK BICYCLE CENTER IS UNIQUE IN THAT IT STORES ALL BICYCLES BELOW THE FLOOR ON CONVEYORS, THAT WHEN ENGAGED, SHIFT AND TURN STORED BICYCLES BENEATH YOUR FEET. THIS SUBTERRANEAN STORAGE SYSTEM CAN BE SEEN THROUGH A GLASS FLOOR.

adirondack house

the adirondack house negotiates a dynamic site in upstate new york where preliminary site analysis included mapping site forces; experiential, environmental, topological, etc. establishing a field of vectors and thresholds. A series of ribbon studies measured these vector and threshold moments, and produced specific nodes, and ultimately framing moments. The assignment of program redistributed these forces and catalyzed a follie that perched lightly at the edge of the trees. a dual skin system allowed for environmental forces to permeate the facade whilst program was emphasized through covert and protruding panoramic windows.

hopkins architects: sperpentine gallery pavilion

green serpentine pavilion

with the steering of hopkins architects director chris banister a solution for an alternative serpentine pavilion for the serpentine gallery of hyde park in london was conceived in a twenty-four hour design charrette at hopkins architects in london. The green serpentine pavilion utilizes the adaptive reuse of nautical technologies to create a temporal structure that is light, adjustable, and foremost a pavilion for the london summers. The role of a green serpentine gallery would serve as an exemplar of design ideas crucial to mitigating the specter of global climate change.

once the form was established members were calculated and similar lengths were identified which expedited fabrication and relationships of scales could be understood and tested.

chair analysis

breuer's lattenstuhl The focus of this project is the analysis [through drawing, modeling, and full-scale building] of an existing chair. Marcel breuer's lattenstuhl or slatted chair was the chair i selected for analysis. The lattenstuhl intimates simplicity in design and construction through use of common scale and size of constituent members in this chair. This reproduction was made with red pine with duck cloth. 2009
