News of the communities of the Paterson and Allyn River Valleys

“Trevallyn" homestead (image courtesy State Library of NSW). Located on the Paterson River between West Gresford and Vacy and demolished around 1948.

Lost Paterson and Allyn Valleys The Lost Paterson and Allyn Valleys Facebook group celebrates the history of the Paterson and Allyn Valleys. The current group photo on Facebook shows the first “Trevallyn” homestead built on the Paterson River between Gresford and Vacy. It is one of a number of photographs of Trevallyn in the State Library of NSW collection. Dating from the early 1860s, these images were taken prior to the Townshends' departure for Wales in 1862 and the collection may have been compiled by Elizabeth Bottrell Townshend's father, John Edye Manning. But why is the photograph titled Hunter’s River and not Paterson River? Any suggestions from readers would be appreciated. Read more inside...
