Summer has started and spring growth has continued late into the year. It is essential you continue to slash, mow and clear through the Christmas season and into January until growth begins to slow. ☐

Ensure grass in surrounding paddocks, yards, alongside slipping tracks etc is no taller than 50mm

A clearing of about 10 metres of well-mown grass (no taller than 50mm) around buildings is advisable

Remove piles of fine fuels such as leaves, twigs and bark from trees; embers landing in these fine fuels will create spot fires

Check gutters regularly and remove any leaf or vegetation build up

Remove fuels from around windows and doors

Make sure trees are healthy with no dead limbs and no vegetation underneath them

Remove doormats from around homes and kennel blocks

Move combustible furniture and other items from decks, up against, or under buildings

Move pot plants a few metres from buildings

Double check that gas bottles are anchored securely with the relief valves pointing away from any flammable materials

Ensure your insurance is sufficient and current

Practice your evacuation plan at least once each month.
