WHAT IS THE FLU?

• Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs

• Flu is different from a cold, and usually comes on suddenly

• Wearing a mask can prevent the spread of the flu

• The CDC recommends you can wear a mask inside public places like grocery stores and movie theaters at any time

DID YOU KNOW?

• Influenza and RSV activity is high and influenza continues to increase rapidly

• More than ten times more flu cases reported the week of December 12, 2022 than in an average year

• Rise in respiratory illnesses sparks long emergency room wait times statewide

• GRHC Influenza positive tests 7 times higher season to date than last year at this time

• Influenza cases are higher and hitting earlier this year than the last 4 years

• 1980% higher number of flu cases compared to last year’s flu season
