elective sessions MORNING TEA OPTIONAL SESSION “What Makes A Successful School Captain?” (
Room)
Being a successful school captain is not simply being the student leader that is the most popular. Younger students that attend the GRIP conferences often ask questions about what they can do to one day be the school captain, so this year we have developed a session especially for this. In addition, newly elected school captains will also find that this session gives them a helpful blueprint for the year ahead. OPTIONAL STAFF SESSION (Selected locations only) “School Staff Session” (
Room)
School staff and accompanying adults are invited to this leadership workshop with one of our key facilitators who has a range of experience in mentoring and coaching emerging leaders in education, business and the community. (This session is different from last year.) ELECTIVE SESSION #1 (choose one) “How To Maximise Student Involvement” (
Room)
When student leaders run events, projects and campaigns there is always the desire that the majority of the student body will become involved. However, it is common for leaders to find that their peers are not always as supportive as they had hoped. This workshop provides a number of practical strategies for student leaders to implement in order to increase student participation in their various initiatives. “How To Maximise Fun From Fundraisers” (
Room)
Organising fundraising events is often one of the most enjoyable things about being a student leader. However, many people don’t realise that if the fundraising event is organised with a huge element of FUN then it delivers all kinds of benefits to the students and usually ends up raising more money as well. This workshop is packed with new and FUN ideas and is perfect for any leadership group that has been in the routine of sausage sizzles, free clothes days and lolly jar guessing competitions. ELECTIVE SESSION #2 (choose one) “Creating Unity at School - Lessons from Nelson Mandela” (
Room)
A challenge for student leaders is to help their school to be a place of unity. This is often difficult if there are situations such as bullying, conflict and separation of groups. The leadership shown by Nelson Mandela provides many wonderful lessons that student leaders in our society can implement in order to have a positive influence in working towards unity. “Creating House Spirit - Lessons from Cathy Freeman” (
Room)
Most schools have houses or teams for sports and other activities. One of the most positive aspects of an effective house is a healthy house spirit. Cathy Freeman has been recognised with accolades including gold medals and the Australian of the Year, with a strong national pride surfacing around her contribution. This workshop is perfect for house leaders and those who want to work with them to take their house spirit and ultimately their house success to another level.
