elective sessions Morning Tea Optional Session “The House Captain’s Resource Kit” ( Room) House captains naturally want their house to succeed and are often keen to find new ways to involve and inspire the students in their house. As the year gets busy it can be hard to find time to come up with new ideas and it can be tempting to simply repeat the activities of the house captain from the previous year. This session helps house captains to plan ahead and create their own ‘resource kit’ with the ideas, materials and strategies that can take their house to the next level over the year ahead. Elective Session #1 (choose one) “How to Maximise the Impact of Your Events” ( Room) Many student leaders find it enjoyable to organise events, but the real goal of an event is to make sure that it has an impact on the attendees and the school community. This workshop is packed with fresh ideas for reaching maximum attendance, maximum enjoyment and having a maximum impact on others. This workshop is for anyone that wants to organise events that run smoothly, attract a large crowd and are memorable for years to come. “How to Maximise the Impact of Your Communication” ( Room) Student leaders regularly communicate with their peers through speeches, posters, online and various other methods. Such communication might be aimed at passing on instructions, advertising events and even setting school culture. Regardless of what is being communicated and the method being used, a leader needs to make sure that whatever is communicated is interesting, inspiring and appealing to those they lead. This practical workshop will lay out a valuable process to make sure that whatever is being communicated has maximum impact. Elective Session #2 (choose one) “How to Lead in Different Situations” ( Room) No two leaders are exactly the same and all leaders have their own natural leadership style. Whilst focusing on individual strengths is important, effective leaders are able to adapt the way they lead in order to get the best outcome in every new opportunity and challenge. This practical workshop will help student leaders understand more about their own natural leadership style, and also how to adapt this to be able to lead effectively in different situations. “How Leaders can Maintain Momentum” ( Room) A challenge for student leaders is to maintain momentum for an extended period of time. It is easy to be excited at the beginning, but as the year progresses many student leaders find that their leadership role is fading into the background. This practical workshop focuses on traits such as attitude, resilience, focus and enthusiasm. During the workshop student leaders will develop strategies so that they can maintain lasting momentum both individually and as a team.
