The Future of

EDUCATION

All classes at Georgia Gwinnett are taught by high-quality faculty who are here only because they love to teach. Since our classes are small, they give personal attention that other institutions can’t deliver. If you need help with an assignment or a course, they spend extra time with you, perhaps even over lunch. Our professors don’t have office hours. They are available to you in person or by e-mail, phone, and text for questions. And they don’t just teach, they mentor. You will be assigned a specific faculty mentor, but all faculty fill this role. Whether you need advice about life, careers, internships, or competing for a special academic program, they are there to inspire and encourage you. They’ll even recommend you for conferences, research projects and other activities that will help prepare you for your future. They will welcome you into the college community during your “March Through the Arch” ceremony, and they will personally congratulate you when you graduate. Think of them as your own personal coaching staff.

EXCELLENCE

14

Georgia Gwinnett College founded the Office of Athletics with the hiring of Director of Athletics Dr. Darin S. Wilson on July 28, 2011, and over that time, the Grizzlies have become a truly dominant force within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The first athletic events took place on August 25, 2012, with a soccer doubleheader against Tennessee Temple, which saw the men and women combine to beat the Crusaders 21-1. The impressive athletic achievements have continued ever since, highlighted by five consecutive NAIA national championships by the men’s tennis team. The women’s tennis team has also collected four national championships in five seasons of post-season eligibility, while men’s soccer, women’s soccer, baseball, and softball have each taken home A.I.I. titles over the past five seasons. All six Grizzly programs have competed in national championship play.

Dr. Darin S.

WILSON

Inaugural Director of Athletics Multiple National Athletics Director of the Year Dr. Darin S. Wilson established the Office of Athletics at Georgia Gwinnett College in late 2011 with the vision of being one of the nation’s premier programs. Off to an incredibly quick start, the Grizzlies are in the process of becoming just that. The Grizzlies seek to develop lifelong leaders of character through academic and athletic excellence, inspired by Wilson’s devotion to the student-athlete experience. He has instilled the program’s five core values: Service, Responsibility, Leadership, Sportsmanship and the Pursuit of Excellence. Committed to the idea of continuing professional development, Wilson holds a number of influential positions within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and helps shape policy at the organization’s highest levels. He currently serves on the NAIA’s National Administrative Council and Athletic Directors Association Executive Committee. Additionally, he is on the executive committee of the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.), which GGC is a member. In 2017-18, Wilson was named the conference’s Athletics Director of the Year. Wilson’s drive to provide an unparalleled student-athlete experience committed to character-driven intercollegiate athletics has resulted in tremendous early success for the Grizzlies. The college fields teams in baseball, softball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. Through six-plus seasons on the field, the Grizzlies have far exceeded expectations with a 887-259-22 (.769) overall record across all sports through spring 2018. They have earned nine national titles (5-men’s tennis, 4-women’s tennis), been nationally ranked in every sport and won 12 conference titles. Wilson was instrumental in providing GGC student-athletes with state-of-the-art facilities, featuring the Grizzly Athletic Complex, a $15-million facility with baseball, softball,

These facilities have contributed to the Grizzlies hosting postseason championships in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, softball and baseball.

For his accomplishments at GGC and Union, Wilson was selected as the NAIA National Athletics Director of the Year for 2010-11 and 2015-16, and twice was named NAIA Under Armour AD of the Year for the Southeast Region. Wilson’s time as a coach and player at Union were marked by success. Wilson brought a wealth of experience to his position as GGC’s first Director of Athletics, coming from Union College in Barbourville, Ky.
