The Future of
EDUCATION
All classes at Georgia Gwinnett are taught by high-quality faculty who are here only because they love to teach. Since our classes are small, they give personal attention that other institutions can’t deliver. If you need help with an assignment or a course, they spend extra time with you, perhaps even over lunch. Our professors don’t have office hours. They are available to you in person or by e-mail, phone, and text for questions. And they don’t just teach, they mentor. You will be assigned a specific faculty mentor, but all faculty fill this role. Whether you need advice about life, careers, internships, or competing for a special academic program, they are there to inspire and encourage you. They’ll even recommend you for conferences, research projects and other activities that will help prepare you for your future. They will welcome you into the college community during your “March Through the Arch” ceremony, and they will personally congratulate you when you graduate. Think of them as your own personal coaching staff.

Pursuing
EXCELLENCE
14
Georgia Gwinnett College founded the Office of Athletics with the hiring of Director of Athletics Dr. Darin S. Wilson on July 28, 2011, and over that time, the Grizzlies have become a truly dominant force within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The first athletic events took place on August 25, 2012, with a soccer doubleheader against Tennessee Temple, which saw the men and women combine to beat the Crusaders 21-1. The impressive athletic achievements have continued ever since, highlighted by five consecutive NAIA national championships by the men’s tennis team. The women’s tennis team has also collected four national championships in five seasons of post-season eligibility, while softball, baseball, women’s soccer and men’s soccer have each taken home multiple A.I.I. titles over the past five seasons. In 2018, all six Grizzly programs competed in national championship play.

Associate Vice President of Athletics Multiple National Athletics Director of the Year Dr. Darin S. Wilson established the Office of Athletics at Georgia Gwinnett College in late 2011 with the vision of being one of the nation’s premier programs. The Grizzlies seek to develop lifelong leaders of character through academic and athletic excellence, inspired by Wilson’s devotion to the student-athlete experience. He has instilled the program’s five core values: Service, Responsibility, Leadership, Sportsmanship and the Pursuit of Excellence. She has led the Grizzlies to three Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) tournament championships, four trips to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament, and recognition as the NAIA Champions of Character team award winner. She has totaled a 241-86-2 (.736) record and back-to-back 50-win seasons in 2018 and 2017. Ihlenburg was named A.I.I. Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2017 after sharing the honor during the 2016 and 2015 seasons. She has led the Grizzlies to conference championships in 2018, 2017 and 2015, and four national tournament bids in 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015. In 2018, she guided the Grizzlies to their first No. 1 national ranking and a school-record 53 victories. The new heights for the program also featured a NAIA World Series appearance -- a first for the program. Ihlenburg received the A.I.I. Coach of the Year award and led the program to the conference title. The 2017 squad had its first 50-win season (50-9-1). The Grizzlies take part in numerous community efforts, including working with Special Olympics Georgia and Relay for Life, plus volunteer at many on-campus events and hold youth clinics in the area. Building leaders of character focused on service to the community has been the hallmark of Ihlenburg’s program. Since April 17, 2013, the GGC program has played all home games at the state-of-the-art Grizzly Softball Complex. The on-campus facility features a top-notch natural grass playing surface and bleacher seating for 500 fans. It sits just steps away from the Grizzly softball locker room and Grizzly Athletic Complex. The team uses the building for meetings, strength and conditioning, and academic services. Ihlenburg brought eight years of previous collegiate softball coaching experience to her position at Georgia Gwinnett College. She spent seven years as an assistant at the College of Charleston (S.C.) to then-head coach Shelly Hoerner, for whom Ihlenburg played collegiately. During Ihlenburg’s time with the Cougars, 26 players were selected as all-conference
