Grove City fails to ‘score’ College left off federal ranking site
Molly Wicker News Editor
The federal government recently released a comprehensive guide to colleges and universities in the United States; however, Grove City is absent. The White House described the website College
Scorecard as a tool to help “identify which schools provide the biggest bang for your buck.” The database includes graduate employment and student loan statistics from every institution of higher education in the country. The scorecard evaluated more than 7,000 colleges and universities,
going back 18 years. Anyone can access the data that shows how particular colleges are doing at enabling students to pay back loans and pay their bills. President Barack Obama introduced the program, saying, “Americans will now have access to reliable data on every institution of
higher education. You’ll be able to see how much each school’s graduates earn, how much debt they graduate with, and what percentage of a school’s students can pay back their loans – which will help all of us see which schools do the best job of preparing America for success.”
However, Grove City College, which is ranked 97th in Forbes magazine’s recent list of Top Private Colleges in the North East, is not listed in the database, a special project of the U.S. Department of Education in cooperation with the White RANKING 2

President Paul J. McNulty ’80 and his wife, Brenda (Milican ’80) McNulty welcome alumni back to Grove City College during last year’s Homecoming weekend.
Day in the Life: Mrs. McNulty Abigail Cunningham Contributing Writer She walks with grace and beauty, she displays confidence and humility, and she carries a sincere love for Grove City College, her family, and College President Paul J. McNulty ʼ80. In her second year as Grove City College’s First Lady, Brenda McNulty plays an important role in the workings of the College that many do not see. She daily assumes the responsibilities of a wife, mother, and leader on campus, yet does so behind the scenes and out of the spotlight. ”This to me is like one big volun-
teer job, it’s full-time though,” Mrs. McNulty said. Her days feature a wide variety of activities and responsibilities which reflect her personal interests, her professional responsibilities, and her desire to serve the campus well. One of her major day-to-day roles is playing hostess. The house at 1 Campus Drive often houses and entertains a number of guests including trustees, faculty members, students, and alumni. She maintains the house, prepares food, and interacts with guests during their stay at the president’s house. In addition to her role as hostess, Mrs. McNulty believes that her
time as the first lady is an opportunity to encourage others whether it be students, professors, or campus staff. She often gives encouragement through conversations with individuals and attendance at sporting or theater events on campus. Mrs. McNulty referred to her interactions with students as the most rewarding part of her day. “The students here we just think are the neatest people because they are well rounded and sharp. They are engaged in life,” she said. When she is not hosting guests or on upper campus with students, she
