GROVES ACADEMY is the leading school in the Midwest for students who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, executive function challenges, and other language-based learning disabilities.
We are a beacon for students who want to learn but are challenged with a learning disability that affects their academic achievement.
Groves Academy is a renowned place of learning that nurtures and encourages brilliance within students with learning challenges. We understand the distress that results when a child is struggling to learn. Our goal is to empower students entering 1st–12th grades to gain the skills and confidence they need to achieve lasting success. We work with students to build their skills and teach them how to learn.
Every student is capable of learning; some just need a different way to learn. Our approach to education helps students who have the ability and desire to learn but face dyslexia, ADHD, or other learning disorders.
“My son is successful in school now, thanks to his teacher’s ongoing optimism, professionalism, communication, relentless energy, and commitment. She cared enough to stick with him when he was frustrated, and she knew enough to figure out what the real problem was and show him how to overcome it.”
We build confidence, success, and purpose through transformative learning experiences.
To redefine the way our nation is taught, one student, one teacher, and one school at a time.
Authenticity, Collaboration, Compassion, Discovery, Tenacity
At the heart of Groves is a community where students, families, faculty, and staff are engaged with a sense of belonging, sharing, and support.
As a community, integrity and respect are intrinsic in everything we do.
“Groves fosters respect for self, respect for other people’s abilities and talents, and respect for their differences.”
Everything we do is driven by our mission to build confidence, success, and purpose through transformative learning experiences. From expert teachers, small class sizes, and specialized evidencebased curriculum, to intentional relationship development, we want to light the path for our students so they experience positive, lasting change.
We believe that students learn best when instruction is direct, structured, sequential, multi-sensory, and addresses individual strengths and challenges. We begin each subject at a level where students can experience success before confidently moving on to more advanced skills.
The highly trained teachers at Groves Academy combine their experience and expertise with care and understanding, using a diagnostic-prescriptive approach to continually assess and address individual student needs.
Classes are comprised of students who are about the same age and working at about the same skill level, promoting an illuminating environment of peer support and understanding.
“When I read with my son now he is fearless, and proud of his ability. The reading ability itself is incredible, but it has impacted him in a much bigger way. He is more confident, more compassionate, and more independent than ever before.”
Our approach to education is designed to help students reach their full potential. From our curriculum to our class sizes, everything we do is grounded in scientific research and decades of experience.

Appropriately Challenged
Academics at Groves Academy include a variety of instructional programs and approaches. We work with students to unleash their reading, writing, and math skills through transformative learning experiences using our evidence-based curriculum. Modifications and accommodations are made as needed to empower students and spark their academic growth. We teach learning strategies to help students radiate success by breaking down complex academic tasks such as comprehension, written expression, and problem-solving.
We also use community resources to enhance curriculum offerings. Field trips and community service projects are incorporated into the program to augment classroom instruction.
Organization and study skills are incorporated into instruction in all classes. These skills include note-taking, test preparation, active reading, and cooperative learning, which are all essential for school success.
We prioritize providing a learning environment that lights the path for students’ growth in the academic, social, and emotional realms. Making friends and building a sense of community are encouraged and supported in classrooms and all student activities.
“Groves got our daughter back on track, renewed her hope, rebuilt her curiosity, supported her intelligence, and opened additional pathways to learning.”
We have a comprehensive admission process, and acceptance is based on our ability to meet each student’s needs with our curricular and community experience. Our student body is comprised of students who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and other language-based learning disabilities. Most of our students have average to above-average intelligence with a discrepancy between aptitude and achievement in the classroom. Based on available space, students are selected for admission on the basis of their academic potential, learning disability, relevant academic and classroom conduct information, and readiness to learn in our school community. Each student profile is unique and is carefully reviewed in our admissions process to ensure that admitted students will experience success.
Parents or guardians typically initiate the admissions process by contacting Groves to set up a call with one of our family navigators. During that call, parents will share information about their child and the navigator will guide them on how to begin the admissions process. Initial contact can be made by calling us at 952-920-6377 or filling out a request on our website.
As part of the application process, families are required to send the application form along with recent individual psychological/educational testing, teacher feedback forms, report cards, and IEP (if applicable). Applications will be submitted online. An application fee is due with the application. If the application fee is a barrier to applying, please contact our admissions department to discuss waiving the fee.
After records are reviewed and found to meet the initial criteria and the student is invited for a full-day visit. The visit day is a required part of the admissions process. Additional visit days will be scheduled if needed. Our admissions coordinator will contact you to set up the visit day.
Tuition assistance is based on financial need, and funds are awarded to approximately 1/3 of our students each year. Tuition assistance applications may be submitted after a student has applied for enrollment.
“Nobody tells me how to be here–I just get to be me.”

We thank all of our Groves families for their commitment and support.
At Groves Learning Center we share our proven methods with those who need them outside of Groves Academy–providing diagnostic assessments with our in-house team of expert psychologists, one-to-one tutoring, speech-language services, and summer programs.
By reaching out to students in their communities, we can work with each student to determine the cause of their struggles, create individualized solutions, and ultimately help spark greater confidence.

We share our evidence-based K-3 literacy instruction with fellow educators in the community through school partnerships so that all students learn to read.
Working together, we help students of all reading abilities shine brightly by using the Groves Literacy Framework® developed at Groves, which is rooted in decades of literacy and brain research.
Partner schools use the Groves Method® Literacy Curriculum for grades K-3 to help ensure all students learn to read by the third grade.
Our child is super happy, and we have not heard the following since last school year: “my head hurts, my throat hurts, and my stomach hurts… please don’t make me go to school!” What an amazingly joyful time this has been!
...The difference is evident in the way they carry themself and they interact with others in a display of confidence. We are soooo grateful!
