Kudos for Publishers: Viewer

Strengthening usage, impact and author relationships

Researchers are under growing pressure to increase the reach and impact of their work. As they explore new ways to do this, including sharing their work more actively with colleagues, new services have grown up to help them. Some services encourage authors to post full-text copies of their work in private networks for other authors to use, which fragments journal usage and puts subscriptions at risk. To mitigate this risk while nonetheless helping authors embrace the sharing trend, over 70 publishers have partnered with Kudos. Kudos supports publisher systems, and consolidates usage, by encouraging authors to share copyright-compliant links that bring users back to the “version of record” rather than copies of their work on other sites. Kudos enables authors to connect together a wide range of materials to aid understanding of their publication, and to track the effect of their efforts to explain and share on metrics including downloads, citations and “altmetrics”. Authors choose Kudos because, instead of locking them into a closed community, it makes sharing more measurable wherever they choose to do it (by email, social media, academic networks, even offline). Kudos uses “gold standard” metrics providers such as Thomson Reuters, which are similarly comprehensive in their tracking, as opposed to the limited metrics specific to some online communities.

23%

Over 100,000 authors have signed up to use Kudos. It is quick and easy to use, with average time on site less then 5 minutes, and it works – the average increase in downloads is 23%.

Kudos has now launched a new service which will enable you to connect more closely with authors, giving you a view onto how, when and where they share your publications, and what effect this has on metrics.

Taking up this Kudos service would enable you to: •

Achieve greater visibility, usage and impact for your articles and authors

Refine your own communications by learning which tools and networks authors are finding most effective

Easily track authors’ tweets about their articles with a livestream that only includes tweets about your publications

Recognize “influencers” based on a unique combination of metrics relating to their communications activities and networks, as well as their publications’ performance

Support and promote authors with simple actions, directly from the dashboard

Identify high-interest topics that may shape other publication or society programs.
